HAPPY 150
CANADA!
Dear Friends,
On July 1st, Canadians will celebrate
something special: Canada’s 150! The
festivities will take place from St John’s to
Victoria, from Iqaluit to University—Rosedale,
and all parts in between.
As we celebrate Canada’s 150, we celebrate
our many past accomplishments, our shared
moments, the events that shaped us, and the
ties that bind us. In Canada, we know that
diversity is our strength, and we know – in
our own uniquely Canadian way – that better
is always possible.
Within our own Community Canada 150 will
be celebrated with various festivals,
community events and Canada Day
Celebrations! This will be a great opportunity
to really get to know University—Rosedale!
This Canada Day, let’s celebrate how far we
have come together and how far we can still
go as a country. Together we will continue to
strengthen our communities, share our
stories, and welcome new Canadians with
stories of their own.
There is another important milestone that we
are celebrating this year: the 35th
anniversary of
the Canadian Charter of Right and Freedoms.
The Charter is a statement that unifies
Canadians around a set of principles. It
embodies those rights we hold most dear in
a free and democratic society, including
freedom of expression, freedom of religion,
equal protection under the law, and the right
to use either of Canada’s official languages.
Have a wonderful Canada Day!
Regards,
Hon. Chrystia Freeland, MP

Canada 150 Stamp Unveiling It was an honour to be at The 519 with Canada Post to unveil a
new Canada 150 stamp celebrating marriage equality in Cana-
da. On Canada Day this year we are going to celebrate a great
event in the life of our country and I am proud that we are going
to celebrate it with marriage equality rights for the LGBTQ2
community in Canada and this visual marker of Canada’s
achievements in marriage equality on those envelopes. Think of
all the countries we could mail with these stamps. Congrats
Canada Post on a wonderfully-designed stamp.

Nominations Open for Governor
General’s Award
The Governor General's Awards in commemoration of
the Persons Case are awarded each year in October to
mark the historic Persons Case decision. The Governor
General’s Awards in commemoration of the Persons
Case recognize individuals who have made an outstand-
ing contribution to the goal of equality for women and
girls in Canada. Nominate someone today! If you know
someone who has championed the advancement of
gender equality, we encourage you to nominate someone for this prestigious award. People of all
genders can be nominated for the GG Award. The deadline to nominate someone is July 3.

Which park will you explore first?
Our National Parks are part of our Canadian identity; they allow
more Canadians to learn about the environment and connect
directly with nature. This year, for Canada 150, entry to all national
parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation
areas are FREE! I encourage you and your family to start planning
your next adventure at a National Park and enjoy all the beauty
our country has to offer. There is no better time to get out and
get some exercise, while exploring our wonderful country!
