EVALUATION

BY HAMZA AHMED

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have

learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Preliminary Task

Our task was to create the beginning two minutes of a film opening. We had been given the choice of choosing our on genre and story.

Me and my group chose a action/comedy genre with a story of a group of friends who start to hate one of their fellow friends who has changed his old ways in to better. From a personal point of view it was a at a satisfying rate and could have done much better if we had been more organised and more prepared from the start.

The camera we used to shoot the footage was a familiar one to the one we use in normal lessons so it wasn’t a disadvantage. We also used a tri stand to keep the camera stable.

Difficulties

During the time to record our footage, we had a couple days were some people from the group that couldn’t attend the recording of the scenes so it had to be delayed to a later date.

Also the weather conditions were poorly so during the filming we had limited time before it started to rain again.

There was a fault with the first camera because the battery life was faulty so we had to struggle to work with it but then eventually we had it changed with a better fully working one.

The planning

During this task I have learnt and improved a lot more than before. For this task, me and my group had a lot of planning to do where we first decided who is which character. We also chose between ourselves who is going to make the story boards for the film and who is going to create a script.

Furthermore, we agreed on I was the main person in charge of the camera so I had to shoot the video, during which my practise became practical and knew which shot and camera angle is which.

Abul and Mahir both had created the story board where they had to draw and plan out every scene for the film.

Belal chose what shots and camera angles are required. Me, Mahir and Abul had created the script for the film.

Camera shots and Editing

In the beginning of the film after the credits we had produced an establishing shot which showed the title of our film with a close up to it.

We then had another establishing shot showing the setting and background where the film will be taking place. We also had close up shots of the characters when it was necessary so it would be more clear for the audience. And we had long shots to show the characters walking around with to intimidate the other people. Also we had a panning shot and tilt to show the costumes and the appearance. When two characters where having a conversation there was a over-the-shoulder shot.

We intentionally wanted to make a shot-reverse-shot but we broke the 180° so we had to change it when we edited.

During the editing we had a lot of footage that we couldn’t use because of the time limit we had so just used the main bits and put them together. Also the music we had to position and put it at the right time.

We used final cut pro to do the editing and we just used the basic transitions from one scene to another.

Also whilst the editing we had to make out own distribution and production credits for that we used a software called motion.
