We headed to the North Fork via stretch limo to explore Long Island Wine Country. Such a great experience! First stop was Palmer Vineyards in Aquebogue. Palmer has a quaint tasting room and a wonderful outside lawn area to enjoy your vino. We became quick fans of the 2009 Gewurztraminer and the 2009 Pinot Blanc. Next on the list was Martha Clara Vineyards at the Entenmann's Family Farm in Riverhead. We enjoyed live music, a bustling crowd, a quick bite, and a few delicious glasses of the Brut Rose. Moving on we headed to Lieb Cellars in Mattituck, which has 50 acres of premium quality vines. We stopped in at the modern tasting room where we quickly fell in love with the spectacular 2009 Pinot Blanc. Our last stop was to Sherwood House Vineyard in Jamesport. We were all impressed by the chic yet rustic decor as well as the 2007 Blanc de Blanc.

SUPER APPSHotel Tonight We love summer in the Hamptons but sometimes we might need to escape for the weekend. With Hotel Tonight you can book last-minute hotel rooms in select cities with discounts up to 70%. Book easily and securely with your iOS or Android device.

Uber On the very rare occasion when we’re not in the Hamptons basking in the sun or dancing on the banquets at brunch, we’ll be in the city making the next business deal. Instead of cabs we’re going to be riding in style with our private driver provided by Uber. Uber allows you to use your smart phone to request a

private driver from anywhere at anytime.

Draw Something We haven’t saved up for the private jet yet so when we’re making the two hour trip to and from the city we need something to occupy our time after we finish reading Hampton

Daze. Two players alternate turns between drawing a picture to convey the guessword for his/her partner to guess, kind of like pictionary.

Hampton Rentals On The GoWe understand you’ve been busy running the city so we’ll forgive you if

you haven’t locked down your Memorial Day - Labor Day rentals. From the same development team that brought you hamptonrentals.com, they’re now putting the Hamptons rental market at your finger tips. South of the highway, pool, walking distance to village... yes, please!

Dubset We listen to some of the best DJs all year so you can’t very well expect us to actually listen to the radio. Dubset, now renamed The Future.FM, is gods gift to music lovers. Listen to music curated by the worlds best DJs, FOR FREE! You can listen online at www.TheFuture.FM or download the app still named Dubset.

Another boozy brunch is making its way east this summer. The Meatpacking Districts brunch hotspot, Brasserie Beaumarchais, is opening at 44 Three Mile Harbor Road in the location formerly known as Philippe. Beaumarchais opened last year and has become wildly poplar for its “Beau Brunch.” Dinner service will begin the weekend of May 18, with brunch starting Memorial Day weekend. Extended dinner hours will kick off after July 4.

The "Dark Angel Designs" line, created in 2010 by Rose Joseph of Queens, represents the power and sexiness of the color black. It is inspired by other women throughout history who did not take no for an answer. Rose has hosted over 30 shows at venues such as Trump Tower World Bar, Grace Hotel, District 36, and Tenth Rail.

a few of our favorite things

Lovely Bands

Dawn HanA quick Q & A with up-and-coming designer, Dawn Han.

Q: What inspired the monochromatic looks?A: I think it’s more of an aesthetic question. I’m more into darker palates and I think that’s something I can express myself the best and I can work with the best.

Q: What inspired the collection?A: A couple of different inspirations. Victorian menswear, the 30’s more feminine silhou-ette, and also a military element. I like to mix them.

Q: What’s a big detail, a trend spotting?A: Longer length fur. A contemporary take on fur for younger women in general. I think also velvet is coming back. Everyone is doing different things. I think it’s just about what kind of girl you are, it’s all about what you love. Especially living in New York, everyone has their own style.

Lookin’ LovelyCute dress, hoping to snag that guy you’ve been eyeing all summer? Check. Long necklace and funky earrings? Check. Headwear? Wait… you reach up and feel nothing. When it comes to lunch dates or evening events, we often go to town (or 5th Avenue) on our clothing and jewelry. However, we often overlook our headwear. Which is a shame, as it is another way to express just how much you know about looking good, not to mention draw attention to those new highlights and extensions. Stephanie Kay is changing all of that in a very lovely way - with Lovely Bands. Lovely Bands is a collection of headwear including headbands, turbans and bands reminiscent of something Janis Joplin may have worn. A former model and photography/cinema student at USC, Kay’s business is only a few months old, yet her designs have been spotted on the head of Audrina Patridge. Which is definitely saying something for such a short time period. At first she made them for fun, letting the many different places she resided inspire her. Lovely ladies are “adventurous, daring and fashionable,” according to Kay. They have a passion for trying new things, and are daring, sporting the leopard print turbans, the rosette headbands, and the Aztec print bands. Indeed, there is a Lovely Band for every lady. If you are a glamorous girl from the Upper East Side, the sparkly bands are parfait for a night

in the Meatpacking District. For a Hippie chick from San Fran, the feathered Lovely Band. Or an urban hipster, the leather turban. Prices are reasonable and hover around $32. The Lovely Bands make great unique

gifts for the girl who has everything, yet demands a boatload of unique birthday presents. A lovely bonus - the bands are all handmade in the US of A. Brooklyn, to be exact. Supporting American made products - what could be lovelier? Plus, headbands are iconic - after all, look at Alice in Wonderland - she knows what is up! Keep your tresses out of your face as you go on that sunset cocktail cruise (hey, a girl doesn’t need any more impairments) or when you are hitting the shops in search of that crucial I-need-it-before-anyone-else-snatches-it handbag. Whatever the occasion, there is a band for you. To purchase your own Lovely Band, go to www.lovelybands.com and follow them on twitter @lovelybandsnyc and facebook for tips on how to wear and pair them!

Kim Shaw Let’s face it, when certain words or names are mentioned, we all tend to immediately think of a stereotype. Yes, for all you lads and lasses who claim “I’m not judgmental, really,” even you have been guilty of automatically assuming something. Take for instance, the term “hipster.” Faster then, let’s say, the amount of time it takes for everything to be scooped up at a Missoni sample sale, you immediately think of passive, apathetic, young people in skinny jeans who think they are so unique, shun popular culture, and live in places like Brook-lyn. Actress Kim Shaw plays the role of Tina on MTV’s “I Just Want My Pants Back.” Based in Brooklyn, the series is comedic and features a variety of not necessarily stereotypical Brooklyn characters who are in their 20’s, just trying to make it through life. Blondes are notoriously cast in dumb blonde roles, so Kim was thrilled to land the role of Tina, a fun, fresh character who she says is “hip, young, and sexy, and knows what she wants. She doesn’t take sh*t from anybody.” Atta girl! She’s the type of character you want to see pull through. It also helped that David G. Rosen, who wrote the original book, has such a fresh clear view, as he lives in Brooklyn. Accurate writing is key. “Live, and lose yourself in the moment,” Kim says she can lose herself in the roll of Tina, and become her, as well as bring a lot of her own character to the role. Tina is someone she would want to be friends with. She would like to maybe see Tina be tied down, finally be in a relationship - to tame the wild one! Kim herself reminds us of a Brooklyn girl - she prefers flea markets and consignment shops over Fifth Avenue, although she does like clothes. Although she originally hails from Canada, Kim had no trouble portraying the typical Brooklyn girl. “The lovely thing about Brooklyn is that it is built on transplants. The young kids and culture of Brooklyn is amazing.” Kim did live in New York City for a decade, so that definitely helped. She still has an apartment here. Jimmy’s Diner on Union Ave in Brooklyn is a joint she frequents regularly. NYC, the concrete jungle where dreams are made of, is many peoples dream town, however, adjusting can always take time. “I was terrified at first of the subway. It was a four-block radius of where I lived and went to school. Also, strange being so close to strangers.” Luckily, Kim over-came those fears, as being on a subway during rush hour does make one feel like they are a sardine crammed in a tin can! Kim has also done stints with Sex and The City, “Gossip Girl” and “Law and Order.” All of which, like “Pants,” are set in NYC. She feels that each show portrays NYC life accurately, as each show tells the story of one of the many different lives one can live in the Big

Apple. She likes “Pants” the best, feeling that more people can relate to it in a fun way. Fun fact. Kim did become interested in acting during high school, but originally wanted to be a criminal psychologist member of the CIA. Memorizing lines and practicing facial expressions is a little different from the intense work of the CIA, but Kim says not so differ-ent. With characters, you have to study and develop how they walk, talk, you have to understand just how their brain would work and be-come them. “The two fields,” she says, “are much more related then you think, in a sense.” Kim didn’t become an actress accidentally. She attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. “I auditioned for schools. If I got in, I got in. If I didn’t, I didn’t. But I wanted to pursue it, so I didn’t look back and went for it.” So ladies and gents, have faith in yourself, or no one else will. If you want to be the next face of Chanel, move

to Mozambique. Or become an astronaut, whatever floats your boat (or yacht), just go for it! “A lot of people don’t do what they want, but just give it a try! I don’t believe in regretting anything,” claims Kim. Life without regrets,

indeed this is how we all should live! Well, for the most part, as perhaps that extra Barcardi shot wasn’t the best idea when you had work at 8 AM the next morning… Not everyone gets to live out their dreams. Sure, we all want to be Americas Next Top Model, or have our faces splashed across billboards, but hey, we know where our true talents lie. Kim however, is getting to live out her dream, “becoming an actress is my dream come true. I’d never thought I’d be on there (MTV).” Growing up, Kim watched MTV, like all of us did, for countless hours glued to the latest videos and music. She of course still loves the network, and says that they are still resilient and paving the way in terms of what is new and popular. Let’s play this or that: TV or movies? When asked the question, Kim liked ‘em both so much she couldn’t choose! “TV has a cool quick vibe. From episode to episode everything changes,” is Kim’s remark on the pros of television. TV episodes are shot extremely fast, which Kim is used to, but she does say that it is nice to work on films, as you usually have more time, with a long story that is very satisfying. Sweet, sweet summertime. While some people get to lounge about in hammocks and idly swing the days away with a pitcher of frozen margaritas within arms reach, others are still on the grind, running down to the subway late for work feeling like you stepped into hell... which you are going to get for being late anyways. Kim’s

Page 20: Hampton Daze June 2012

plan for summer is to go to Russia with her boyfriend. She is traveling there to meet his family. Aside from traversing the world, she also hopes that she will shoot another season of “Pants.” Kim has also been cast in the upcoming feature film, drag-racing drama, Snake and Mongoose, directed by Wayne Holloway. Kim will portray the real-life wife of drag-racing legends Don “The Snake” Prudhomme played by Jesse Williams. Along with Williams, she will star alongside Noah Wyle, Richard Blake, and Ashley Hinshaw. The Hamptons are known for celebrity spotting in the summer. Has Kim ever ventured out to the land of fun and sun? Of course she has! “Yes, I went out there once with friends.” It was the off season, which we all know can sometimes be as ex-citing as that three hour economics class you took in college. However, she enjoyed the quietness and the quaintness of the towns. Of course, Kim couldn’t resist the pristine ocean beaches of the Hamptons - like most of us out here, going to the beach is as common as checking your latest facebook update. She is a beach girl, and loves to visit her parents in Day-tona. She also shot an episode for TV one time out in Montauk. The best part of the show, Kim says, is the comedy. While some people crack jokes that flatline and lack applause, comedy comes natu-rally to Kim. She loves making people laugh, and is working on a youtube se-ries with Gary Cole. Some of us would do almost anything including give up their sacred shoe or surfboard collec-tion to work with a certain someone. Kim would love to work with Sandra Bullock. “I think her career is awesome and she has great comedic talent.” We hope to see Kim in many future proj-ects!

Alexandra RichardsAt 25, Alexandra Richards is a regular 21st century renaissance woman -- she’s a celebrity DJ, an artist, and a model. Hampton Daze spoke to Richards about spinning on the beach at sunset in Uruguay, helping her mother with her handbag line, and her artwork.

When did DJing peak your interest? About five years ago. I was DJing a small bar near my apartment. It was a place where all my friends would come and just let their hair down. It was the place I started and practiced every night.

What’s your favorite city to spin in? I can’t choose one. Every place or city has such a different audience, so I like to keep that open to who I play for.

Most memorable gig?Uruguay in Punta del Esta -- first time there for me. I DJed on the beach at sunset. It was so beautiful, it was a great beach party! Everyone dancing in the sand. Serato or Tracktor? CDJs or Technics? Technics and Serato.

What are the pros and cons to being a DJ constantly on the road? For me in the beginning it was hard to balance the modeling jobs after a night of DJing late. I had to find ways to book my jobs around the modeling so I could rest. The pros are traveling and experiencing the cities and the different tastes in music all around the world. You’re working with your mom on a handbag collection called Hung on U. Tell us about how that came about and what it’s like working so closely with a parent. It’s actually my moms handbag line. I’ve been helping out with the sales by doing their latest campaign, modeling along side my sister and my niece Ella Rose. All my family and I are big supporters of this bag and wear and talk about it all the time. So its nice to be part of this exciting adventure for my mother.

What comes easier: being a model or being a DJ? I’ve been modeling for a while so it’s kind of natural for me. I can’t say its easy but it definitely has its perks. DJing is fun for me because it is a part of me. I love music and sharing that is something I enjoy doing.

I read that you went to SVA (School of Visual Arts) while DJing and modeling. Is it safe to say you’re a 21st century renaissance woman?Ha. I have been able to maintain two careers while I was at school for

the two years, but each job came at its own time and doesn’t sound as stressful. I’ve had a great support system with my family and friends and have been able to keep in touch with all. I like being busy. I love to work. And I’m going to take what I can get at this time in my life. It’s important to hold on to that as long as you can.

When can we expect to see your artwork on display? Hopefully this summer. I have great new projects in the works with collaborations. So I’ve been busy in the studio on my off time.

Complete the following: Every time I’m in the Hamptons, I have to...Jump straight in the ocean, have a BBQ and watch the sunset at Little Plains with my friends.

What’s can we expect from Alexandra Richards in the next few years? Only creative projects that hopefully inspire other people around the world. One love.

Nick CohenBy Tamara Hayes

DJ Nick Cohen is not playing around when he says he is staying busy. Cohen is on his grind prepping for business school, getting involved in a restaurant and some projects we’re just going to have to stay tuned for. Hampton Daze chatted with Cohen about his DJ career and what changes we can expect to see in music this year.

When did you get your start in DJing? Eight years ago I used to DJ a bar on the Lower East Side for “peanuts” and free beer as a way to make a couple bucks and throw parties for my friends to hang out at.

Most memorable gig? French Vogue’s 90th anniversary. Carine Roitfeld hired me to play a

Disco Masquerade Ball at what was formerly Karl Lagerfeld’s Mansion in Paris. FUN!

Serato or Tracktor? DJs or Technics? Technic 1200’s and a Rane TTM 57 Mixer with Serato built in.

Best Hamptons Nightclub past or present? Tough one; so much turnover. Irrelevant so long as you have good crew and a bad attitude!

What do you do when party go-ers have a request?Depends who is asking. Most likely ignore them. What if they write it on a $100 bill? Does Benjamin have any twin brothers?

What’s your signature style when it comes to entertaining the crowd? “That Nick Cohen Sound,” I have heard people call it that. To me it’s about transferring energy while not compromising musical integrity.

What do you think we’ll see more of or less of in music this year? I would hope that there is a return to “musicality” and away from “over produced” records. Think Adele and her last album.

Top five most played songs on your ipod? Changes very often. In no specific order preference:Blue Jeans (Penguin Prison Remix) - Lana Del RayNightcall (Breakbot Remix) - KavinskyThe Walk - Mayer HawthorneNo No Song - Ringo StarrFeel So Close - Calvin HarrisSave It For a Rainy Day - Stephen Bishop

Where can we find you when you’re not behind the wheels of steel? Being very busy living life!

Complete the following: When I’m in the Hamptons, I can’t leave until I go to...Gosman’s Dock in Montauk!

What’s next for Nick Cohen? Business School, a restaurant, and there are a few other projects brewing. Stay Busy!

Alexandra Richards and Nick Cohen will both DJ “SOFO Goes SOHO” Benefit for the South Fork Natural History Museum on June 16. Tickets are $250 and Jr. tickets, for those 30 and under, are $125. There is something floating around in the air that keeps convincing me that this summer in the Hamptons is going to be one for the record books, or at least make for an interesting Facebook album. The sun is starting to set later, contracts are finalizing and people are counting down the days until Memorial Day Weekend; and by people, I mean me! But seriously, have you seen all of the new restaurants, clubs and brunches we’re going to get to try? Five places you’ll be able to find me this summer:

• At the door of Deja Vu Thursdays at SL East.

• Hamptons Players Club. I thought it was a strip club at first so I was slightly disappointed when I found out otherwise, but then I got excited again when it was revealed that there would be a biergarten. Hell yeah!

• Beaumarchais. I’m sorry, I just love brunch so much I can hardly control myself.

• Georgica F-ing Mondays! I mean where else would I be on a Monday night? 4am DJs on board. Things are going to get crazy or cray, as the kids would say.

• The Sloppy Tuna. After taking over Nicks, the Tuna got a facelift last summer but the owners didn’t think that was good enough so they went back in and did even more work. Day bombing, anyone?

SL East

• Calling (Loose My Mind) : Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso Ft. Ryan Tedder • Somebody That I Used to Know (Hyper Crush Remix) : Gotye

• The Don : Nas • In My Mind (Axwell Remix) : Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl Ft. Georgi Kay

• We’re All No One (Hook N Sling Remix) : Nervo • Titanium (Alesso Remix) : David Guetta Ft. Sia

• Beat Down : Steve Aoki & Angger Dimas Ft. Iggy Azalea • I Wonder Who She’s Kissing Now : TV Girl

• Slight Work : Wale Ft. Big Sean • Emmylou : First Aid Kit

Ahhh summers here! This is exactly what Christmas would feel like if it were for three consecutive months. The season is short kids, so go enjoy it while it lasts!www.MaraLaRoux.com

SL Thursdays are back but with a minor facelift for the 2012 summer season. We loved our party last summer but this summer we wanted to give you more. Join us every Thursday night for Deja Vu. Open bar 10 to11 PM, 1/2 priced bottles, Resident DJ Biggie, with a different guest DJ every week.

Music SummaryThe unofficial start to summer is finally here in the Hamptons. You can practically feel the champagne raining on you from one of the many boozy brunches you’ve been long awaiting. However, you can’t have a banging brunch party without the right music. We’re finally on a good music trend here in the Hamptons. Last summer we saw some of the best DJs perform; Jesse Marco, The EC Twins and Steve Aoki just to name a few. You can expect the trend to continue with even more venues trying to increase profits by bringing in some of the top NYC DJs. Electric music will undoubtedly rule the summer so if you haven’t developed a solid open fist pump, you’re going to want to get on it immediately.

The Montauk ProjectBy Jessica Mackin

Hampton Daze caught up with Mark Schiavoni, guitarist and vocalist, of local band “The Montauk Project.”

Who are the members of The Montauk Project? The Montauk Project is Mark Schiavoni on guitar and vocals, Matty Liot on guitar and vocals, Jasper Conroy on drums and vocals, and Chris Wood on bass.

Tell us a little about The Montauk Project and how you got together: The Montauk Project is an all original rock band that hails from the East End of Long Island. All the band members are in their mid twenties and grew up in Montauk, East Hampton and Sag Harbor. The group is constantly writing new material and bringing together musical elements from the 60’s, 70’s, 90’s and present. The groups sound is characterized by its driving bass lines, hard hitting beats, screaming guitar solos, and melodic vocal harmonies. The groups intentions are to be identified by its live show which can be described as a “musical experience.” How long have you been playing together?Having grown up together out on the East End, myself, Matt and Jasper have been making music together since our early teens and have been doing so for over a decade. The band officially formed in February 2011 fusing the musical minds and styes of the old and the new. Chris and Mark played in Jazz band at East Hampton High School. Chris joined the band in September 2011 completing the group that is currently The Montauk Project.

Favorite places to play in the Hamptons:The band has made multiple appearances at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, La Superica in Sag Harbor, and The Gig Shack in Montauk. The band’s favorite place to be is on stage.

Who are your influences? The band draws its sound and style from that of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Black Keys.

Any shows coming up? The Montauk Project will be playing throughout the summer on the East

End. Keep an ear out for upcoming show dates at The Memory Motel in Montauk, The Surf Lodge in Montauk and The Steven Talkhouse in Amagansett. The band also has plans to make an appearance in the New York City and Boston areas this summer. We’re playing Saturday, May 26 at 10 PM at the Gig Shack in Montauk. We’re also playing July 10 at 8 PM at The Stephen Talkhouse. On July 14 we will be at Chequit Inn on Shelter Island at 10 PM, and August 16 at 10 PM at the Talkhouse. You can keep up with the Band at www.themontaukprojectmusic.com.

Oooo La Laaa! We made it everybody… and this will, for sure, be the best summer yet. As I switch my closet around from shades of deep burgundy and navy velvets to my sleeveless bright magenta and open-toe attire, I think to myself that I must get to the beach! Here are my spa updates from Manhattan to Montauk.

What’s happening at the Ocean View Salon at Gurney’s Inn?A luxury treat for the feet, The ME! Bath Ice Cream Pedicure! This

fifty minute spa treatment for the legs and feet begins with your choice of any ice cream flavor scoop of scented Epson sea salt to drop in the pedicure bowl, to soften callus and ease pain. Next, a massaging vanilla, strawberry or choc-olate shea butter sherbet sugar exfoliation all over the legs and feet followed by your choice of marshmallow, caramel or chocolate hydrat-ing cooling mask wrapped in warm towels. Top your luxury pedicure off with a vanilla icing

moisturizer and your choice of a natural buff shine, french pedicure or wHet polish color. Now that is five star.

wHet NailpolishThe all new luxurious wHet Nailpolish, which is vegan and formaldyhyde free, can be found at SpaUnique of Southampton (www.spaunique.com) and at Gurney’s Inn (www.Gurneysinn.com) in Montauk.

Exhale Spa I met Laura Benge, National Spa Direc-tor for Exhale Spa at Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District. This is just one modern oasis out of 19 spa locations that exist across the country. Her career

history involves an extensive background in Esthetics and a passion for business. As Exhale’s newest leader of the team, there is no doubt she will do anything less than her best to bring this exclusive brand to another level of excellence. “The Exhale Spa merges mind and body to support you on your path to overall wellbeing,” says Benge. In other words, fitness and movement with spa and healing therapies exists in a tranquil yet urban day spa setting. Benge explains the concept in detail. “From massages, facials, body therapies, manicures and pedicures, to Core Fusion and Yoga instruc-tion, all therapies offered at the Exhale Spa intertwine with each other to benefit the mind and overall well-being of the guest.” Benge seemed very calm compared to most career-oriented spa managers today. I asked how she keeps herself grounded. Her secret

is by taking advantage of the authentic fitness classes at each loca-tion, such as Core Fusion, a therapy that us editors at Hampton Daze got to experience in the Exhale wellness studio in Bridgehampton. She practices what she is preaching and it most certainly shows!

Therapy Recommendations at Exhale: ACUPUNCTURE MASSAGE: The combination of acupuncture and massage creates balance on both a physical and energetic level. Acu-puncture points are chosen based on your imbalances followed by a relaxing massage. CORE FUSION: Strengthen your overall wellbeing with a combina-tion of yoga asanas, Qi Gong, core strengthening, and stretching with a Core Fusion Yoga class. All classes include a cardio element and are fueled by upbeat and inspirational music rhythms. Some Exhale Spa lo-cations may be full service such as the Gansevoort Hotels in New York City, California and Turks and Caicos to name a few. Other locations emphasize purely on mind, body and wellness classes such as Exhale in Bridgehampton. Benge gave me the opportunity to experience an authentic Core Fusion yoga class in the Hamptons location which al-lowed me to focus, breathe, tone and relax using methods from one of my favorite morning rituals, Qi Gong.

Trump SoHo Rachel Knapp is the Spa Director responsible for overseeing Donald Trump’s spectacular spa in the Trump SoHo Hotel. I met with Knapp in the hotel’s Bar d'Eau, which overlooks the outdoor pool deck and Manhattan sky. The spa was jamming with guests using the facili-ties, scheduling treat-ments and gazing at the ceiling to floor dé-cor of chandeliers and flowing marble water fountains. I felt as if I were in a museum with comfort-able chairs, great views and complimentary beverages. I was flabbergasted from the moment I walked through the oversized lobby doors. Knapp explained how unique this particular spa is once you enter the pavilions. It has a holistic concept, yet is privately set in traditional modern luxury. Knapp, originally of Las Vegas, came to manage in the SoHo area after managing the spa at the MGM Grand and opening and oversee-ing a variety of resort spa’s in places like Acapulco. Her knowledge of business, combined with her experience, leads me to believe she is one of the few that has been directly involved with the evolution of the spa industry. Not to mention, she is sharp and she is quick. Knapp loves to be both hands on working directly with the staff and

guests as well as seeing the performance from behind the scenes. What rewards her is when guests are completely blown away by a remarkable experience. She does take advantage of wellness activities to keep her centered and balanced in her luxurious surroundings of the Trump Hotel. Rachel surprised me with an Oxygen Facial performed by Serena, a highly experienced and extremely thorough Esthetician who has worked at the Trump SoHo since its inception. Serena performed the 90-minute treatment on me inspired by Kate Sommerville as an anti-aging remedy. The soothing music played. She had great knowledge of my particular skin type. The work she did made my skin seem almost flawless. Treatment continued with reflexology on my feet, followed by toasted sandals. My toasted sandals truly put the number five in my five star facial experience with Serena! The Spa at Trump features New York's only private luxury hammam experience, something that the curious spa-goer looks for in an expe-rience. There are indoor and outdoor relaxation rooms, a salon and health club and if you are a hotel guest, or just plain lucky, you get to unwind over cocktails in the pool area.

The Spa at The Setai on Wall Street The Spa at Setai on Wall Street offers unique body treatments such as the “Tour of Asia.” Leaving fast-paced Wall Street and enter-

ing the amazing ambience with strong scents of lemongrass and organic teas can get you lost for a New York Hour or two. I loved everything about the Setai. From the polished looking staff, to the equipment in the fit-ness center, to the Asian fusion style décor. Not to mention the great looking Wall Street men coming in for treatments one af-

ter the other, after the other… what was I thinking not working in a spa on Walll Street? The Setai is so well managed by Spa & Fitness Director, Amanda Wells. I met with her to discuss the vision and concept of The Spa. Additionally, the Treatment Services Director, Manny Ramirez, is con-sistently hands-on in creating effective body treatments. This duo is a solid team, both having knowledge of the treatment room and busi-ness, along with both having a great sense of humor. They truly love what they do and make it look so easy. So, if you Hamptonites want to get away when you are in the city, this is one spot you want to visit. You will not be disappointed!

La Carezza La Carezza is a full service day salon and spa decorated in traditional Medi-terranean style. It is always the busiest most happening entity in Southampton which is why I decided to meet with Elena Bedendi, who has worked for La Carezza as a manicurist and beauty therapist for over 15 years. Word-of-mouth says she is the best. Elena discussed manicure trends such as Shellac, a mint condition gel manicure or pedicure that lasts up to two weeks. It’s double the price of a basic manicure but means less maintenance for the client. Her skills are also well tailored. Her other passion, working with brows and eyelash extensions. In less than two hours you can leave La Carezza feeling confident and with thick gorgeous lashes that last for months. Other therapies that Elena can offer are soothing Hydrotherapy, Vichy shower scrub, spray tanning and facials. She enjoys educating herself as well as other and frequently mentions how much she loves working with a family in a place she can call home.

NuBest Salon This spring I was intro-duced to “miracle mile,” also known as the Rodeo Drive or Fifth Avenue of Nassau County. How can I visit an area like this without explor-ing the best of the best in spa and beauty? I found NuBest Salon & Spa and received an authentic Kerastase hair treatment for repairing, hydration and shine after meeting color director, Christian Fleres. Each department was sectioned off for color and hair treat-ments followed by cut and style areas including ultimate private cove’s for services such as men’s color and threading. Additionally there is a full service spa overseen by Spa Director, Rita Arabova, which offers the benefits of various facials, private label makeup, body therapies, waxing, manicures and pedicures. There was even a jewelry counter to add a special touch. NuBest is a booming oasis offering virtually every type of service, just outside the Hamptons and NYC. I was given a tour by PR Director, Richard Piana, who mentioned names of Oscar Award winning celebs to music stars who frequent the posh salon. Nubest is owned by Jamie Mazzei.

Another much anticipated Memorial Day weekend is here to kick off the 2012 season of fun in the sun in the Hamptons. There’s a different feel in the air than in the past couple of years. The economy is getting better and it’s shaping up to be a lucrative summer for ev-eryone, especially the new businesses. Some are making their debut on the East End with a second location like Zum Schneider Montauk which is a Bavarian Indoor Biergarten that opened their New York City location in 2000. They feature a traditional Bavarian-German menu and of course an array of German beers on tap. Swallow East is another one making Montauk their second location with the first one located in Huntington - they’re a small plate restaurant. Sammy’s Restaurant is located on the Montauk Harbor. Two others that are new to Montauk are La Bodega and Bliss Montauk. Cross Eyed Clam is back for their second season and right next door you can get breakfast and lunch at The Clam Shack. Navy Beach is also opened for their third season with some new items on their menu to try out! There are some new events to check out and one of them is at Gurney’s Inn on May 25 at 7:15 PM. The World Premiere for the Movie Montauk Chronicles has been in the making for three years and has everything from time travel to extraterrestrial experiences that took place all within the hidden levels beneath Camp Hero. There’s a meet and greet session after the movie as well as a question and answer session with Director Christopher P. Garetano. There are two other events you can’t miss where you can

meet Mrs. Suffolk County, Michele Herger! We had the pleasure of having Michele on our monthly TV show last month, “Women of Spirit” on local channel 20 on Cablevision. The show promotes all things that are positive and good, with people who are trying to make a difference in the world. Michele is one of those people who is using her title to pro-mote awareness of The American Cancer Soci-ety - The Official Sponsor of Birthdays. Michele is representing the American Cancer Society’s Choose You Movement at Shecky’s Girls Day Out in

Southampton on July 7 and at the ACS Choose You Luncheon at Carlyle On The Green in Bethpage on May 16. Janet Russell is the woman who started the “Women of Spirit” TV show which also brings together spiritual or intuitive people, I co-host the show with her. We also have local and celebrity guests on each show and will be filming in the Hamptons and Montauk this summer to add more variety to the show! Janet is always available

By Annemarie Davin

for readings so if you would like to contact her, you can go to www.janetrussellpresents.com. She is also available for events and fundraisers! One of the guests that we unveiled as the new face of Gurney’s Spa Water Spa back in January was Charlie O’Connell. By now you have seen him in many of their print advertisements and you can now see him on the big screen in his upcoming movie Huff where he plays the title character. The premiere took place in Dallas, Texas during Frightmare Weekend and you can go to www.HUFFmovie.com for more information. For the ladies, start your summer off right by learning how to look for the right man by reading Adrian Weber’s book Ladies, The Writing Is On The Wall where you will get relationship and dat-ing advice. Why do men do what they do? And what do they really mean through their actions and words? These are some topics addressed in this book. So ladies, this is your must have guide this summer, so you don’t waste your time with Mr. Wrong, and can invest your energy in finding Mr. Right! If you have a need for a great photographer - whether it’s for an event, head shots, custom shoots, in water photography or just about anything you can think of - you’re going to want to get in touch with James Katsipis. I’ve worked with James on many shoots and he’s simply amazing! You can check him out at www.JamesKatsipis.com and you’ll see what I mean! For more information on any of the places or people men-tioned, you can email me at [email protected]. I’m also available for any media inquiries as well. FameHampton is a full service media company and we can help you get your company in front of the right audience! Until next month, have a safe Memorial Day Weekend and enjoy!

Method Start off by cutting the vegetables for the salad. Cut the carrots and onion into thin slices and set them in the fridge until you are ready to assemble your salad. At this point, toss the pita chips in a bit of oil and the garlic salt then toast them in an oven set to 400 degrees for 12 minutes. Next, trim and split each chicken breast and set up a breading area to bread them. Set up the flour on one plate and the polenta on another. Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk together. Dredge each piece in flour, then into the egg bath. Finish with a nice coating of the polenta and set the chicken aside. To cook the chicken, use a large sauté pan and a sheet pan lined with foil. Heat the sauté pan then add the canola oil to fry the chicken in. When the oil has reached a nice medium-high heat begin to fry the chicken for two minutes on each side, then place each browned piece of chicken on the sheet pan to finish cooking in the oven for ten minutes. While the chicken cooks assemble the salad in a small mixing bowl – add the chopped herbs, red wine vinegar, olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste. Whisk vigorously then add the sliced vegetables, croutons, and arugula together and drizzle in the dressing. When the chicken is finished slice it into thin strips and top the salad along with the Parmesan cheese.

This winter I stumbled upon a new found love for tequila. I am vodka girl at heart, but once I tried this drink I couldn’t help but want to switch things up a bit. It is called the Salty Chihuahua (try saying that name three times fast). Rumor has it this cocktail was created by a bartender from Chihuahua, Mexico, decades ago. Please note for everyone looking to have a healthy summer – not only is it a fun, delicious summer drink but it is waistline friendly as well – under 200 calories per glass.

Ingredients:Coarse salt

3 cups grapefruit juice4 ounces tequila

1.5 ounces Cointreaugrapefruit slices for garnish

Wet the rims of four glasses and coat with the salt. Fill each glass with ice. Mix tequila, cointreau, and grapefruit juice in a pitcher. Where to go in the haMptons...

Rowdy Hall in East Hampton is a local staple and you will be hard pressed to find a person that doesn’t absolutely love this restaurant. Widely known for having the best burger in town most people overlook some of the other items on the menu. You are doing yourself a disservice if you overlook the steamed mussels which can be ordered as an appetizer or as

an entree. The Prince Edward Island Mussels are steamed in white wine with shallots, garlic and a touch of cream. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! The Moules Frites (mussels entree) comes with hand cut pomme frites. YUM! www.RowdyHall.com

Situated on Three Mile Harbor, East Hampton Point boast some of the most striking views on the East End. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner all summer, the contemporary American cuisine has something for everyone. One of the best features of this nautically themed restau-rant is the full-size mahogany sloop with a mast that reaches the ceiling cupola. BBQ restaurants are popping up all over the Hamptons this summer season and the competition is stiff. However, only one BBQ joint can hold the title for having the best happy hour -- Towline BBQ. There are several fac-tors that put Towline far ahead of other restaurants serving up happy hour this summer and the biggest is the price! The Townline happy hour is 4pm-7pm. 4pm-5pm drinks are $4, 5pm-6pm drinks are $5, and 6pm-7pm is $6. You’re lucky if you can get a pack a gum for $4 in the Hamptons so take advantage of the awesome deal this summer!
