What does Sustainability mean at URS/Scott Wilson

•Ensure our solutions meet the commercial objectives of our clients, considering all risks and asset liabilities

•Optimise the use of energy, water, land and material resources throughout the life cycle of our projects

•Recognise natural assets and ecosystems and advise, design for and manage solutions that maintain and (where possible) enhance their viability

•Consider community impact and maximise opportunities for equitable access to the resources and services that our projects deliver

•Actively seek positive financial, environmental and social benefits from our own business operations

Issues for Consultants in the Built & Natural Environment

• Climate change and sustainability are major growth areas for consultants, including URS/SW

• Focus is on de-risking the business and making it more resilient – relevant to clients too

• Clients expect to see our advice services backed up by our own corporate performance

• Main issues relate to office energy, resource consumption, and business / commuter travel

• Aim to re-sell our own best practice in relation to corporate travel, building performance etc.

• Next challenge is Scope 3 impacts – i.e. supply chain – how we improve our sourcing

Supply Chain & Sustainability

SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT

Our goal is to work collaboratively with our Registered Suppliers to encourage compliance with, and emphasis on, the following sustainable procurement practices: -

- ensure all procurement activities account for sustainable development wherever practical

- endeavour to procure goods and services from sustainable sources

- ensure procurement activities align with the wider environmental requirements of the Group

- evaluate the appropriateness and value-add of the goods and / or service being provided

- consider all alternatives to help reduce, reuse and recycle

- develop appropriate mechanisms with all suppliers for reporting sustainable procurement (waste management initiatives etc).
