Transcript of Hammond Hall Brochure
The 21st century has brought about dramatic improvements in computing and telecommunications. These incredible advances in technology have allowed Fort Hays State University to transform as an institution of higher education.
Unlike any other time at Fort Hays State, there is a need and an opportunity to develop a new breed of “academic space” to exploit the potential of virtual learning environments, experience-based education, cultural enrichment, and new approaches to discovery, research, and creativity.
The new Hammond Hall, formerly known as the Center for Networked Learning, uses the communications infrastructure of the 21st century to link three critical offices throughout
Fort Hays State University: (1) the Department of Informatics; (2) the Virtual College; and (3) the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning Technologies (CTELT).
Wouldn’t it be amazing for FHSU to earn the reputation of being one of the nation’s most-wired campuses?
With the future-thinking design features this building offers, that goal may become a reality. At approximately 36,000 square feet, Hammond Hall was completed just in time for the start of the fall 2014 semester.

Hammond Hall1st Floor — Department of Informatics
Whether a student is interested in TV, digital telecommunications, the Web, or behind-the-scenes technologies that make computers and networks run effectively, there is no question that the information highway is one of the most important forces shaping today’s society and our future. The Department of Informatics at Fort Hays State University offers a wide variety of courses, and several undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to choose from. The numerous academic
programs equip students with not only the knowledge and skills required to be on the cutting edge of rapidly changing technologies, but they also provide students with the tools necessary to embark on a life of continuous learning and self-development.
The Department of Informatics occupies the first floor and its building needs are designed around three primary digital learning areas: computer labs, a telecommunication lab, and video/audio labs.

Hammond Hall2nd Floor — Virtual College & CTELT
Today, FHSU’s Virtual College is a global leader in online education with an enrollment of more than 8,000 students in over 20 countries throughout the world.
The Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning Technologies (CTELT) office is the production unit for FHSU’s Virtual College. CTELT’s instructional technology experts work in conjunction with the university’s faculty to design and develop high-quality courses that can be delivered to students in either an off-campus or online setting.
The Virtual College and CTELT offices occupy the second floor, which houses the production and technological-delivery of faculty’s course content. In addition, the second floor functions as a demonstration center for new and advanced technologies, and serves as a test-site for instructional applications of these technologies.
