A building pit of around 8.20 m deep was required for the newdevelopment of a hotel with a two-storey underground garagein Hamburg city centre following demolition of the olddevelopment.

In the course of the trail clearance for the diaphragm wallproduction a contiguous bored pile wall d=40 cm consisting ofsteel pipes filled with reinforced concrete needed to beoverdrilled. The noise-intensive demolition works could only beperformed at night because of the adjacent development.

The building pit securing used in the areas of"Ferdinandstraße" and "Brandsende" a rear-anchoreddiaphragm wall with inserted beam support with timber infillpanels. The diaphragm wall directly in front of the building adjacent tothe east was braced into the building pit using a steelconstruction.

For structural reasons, in the ramp area of the newunderground garage the adjacent buildings needed to beunderpinned with a "watertight", rear-anchored jet groutedbody. A sealing curtain of jet grouted columns extended thisinto the marl, so that a watertight trough was created togetherwith the naturally tight floor.

Quantities:

2,100 m² diaphragm wall d=60 cm, diaphragm depth 20 m

200 m² wall with inserted beam support

750 m³ jet grouted underpinning (watertight)

96 pieces anchors, l=15-18 m (partly under water strain)

70 tonnes steel bracing

11,000 m³ demolition and soil excavation
