Halloween Decorating Ideas: A Not-Too-Creepy HalloweenParty

Sometimes itâs hard to walk that thin line between creepy Halloween and cute Halloween. But we think Katrina Sullivan, author of Chic Little House, did it perfectly with her Halloween

decorating ideas.ÃÂ

She offers her Halloween ideas as part of our Halloween Style Challenge. We sent Katrina, andseveral other excellent decor bloggers, mystery boxes of Home Depot Halloween decorations andasked the bloggers to come up with clever and practical ideas to decorate for the holiday.ÃÂ

Katrina shows how she created not-too-creepy decorations for a Halloween party. Along the way, sheshares some super simple Halloween decorating ideas along with a couple of easy DIY projects youcan use for your own Halloween decorating.ÃÂ

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, mainly because of my love of Halloween! I absolutely lovedressing my home up in Halloween d©cor. For me Halloween is a time of magic and pretend, and pretty much anything goes from over-the-top scary, to cutesy Halloween d©cor. Personally,I land somewhere in the middleâ I like a mix of creepy and pretty. I adore The Home DepotStyle Challenges, and Iâm thrilled to be asked to participate in the Halloween StyleChallenge.

My Challenge space is dressing our dining room up in Halloween d©cor. The Home Depot, wasgenerous enough to send me some goodies to help kick-off my pretty creepy Halloween d©cor. My sweet tooth cravings go into overdrive during Halloween, which made perfect sense to create asweets table for the Style Challenge. I wanted to keep the main them in my Halloween d©corwhite and black, showcasing hints of orange, gold and green in saturation.

To add some drama to simple treats, I placed hard candies in Halloween Apothecary Jars from TheHome Decorators Collection. I love these jars glass jars. They come in a set of six each, with adetailed label and glass lid.

The details on the apothecary jar labels is one of the things I love most about them, transformingmint candies into bat droppings.

Im a huge fan of flameless candles and placed the orange glitter ones stemless wine glasses.

By removing the family photos from our gallery wall and replacing them with creepy framed bugsand birds, it really helped transform the look of the room.

I spelled out EEK by, deconstructing papier-m¢ch© letters, adding black roses in mossinside the letter forms.

I spray painted some rubber snakes and spiders black so that they would keep with the black andwhite color scheme of my Halloween party decorations.

To complete my style challenge, I also worked on a few projects with pumpkins, glitter and wooddowels (happy combination, if you ask me). I picked up a few mums from the garden section of HomeDepot, along with a few pumpkins from their indoor pumpkin patch to transform into my vision.

Glam Black Pumpkin with Glitter Stem

I taped off off the pumpkin stem, then I lightly spray painted the pumpkin matte black using Rust-Oleum Matte Black. After allowing the pumpkin to dry overnight, I removed the painters tape andapplied glitter glue to the stem.

Metallic Pumpkin Flower Vase

I also wanted to add a little color to the corner of my dining room, so I decided to transform apumpkin into a pumpkin mum vase.

Using Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold, I lightly spray painted the bottom on the pumpkin. Once thepaint was dry, I used the Dremal Pumpkin carver to remove the top of my pumpkin. I cleaned out the

inside of the pumpkin using an extra-large pumpkin scoop I bought from the Home Depot Halloweensection.

Crows Perch

One of my favorite projects for the challenge was making the hanging crow landing. I piece ofbought 2 x 16 pre-cut dowel, along with black chain and hooks from The Home Depot.

I spray painted the dowel matte black and screwed the hooks into the wood, then added the chain.

Not wanting to poke holes in my ceiling, I used hanging hooks used to hold dustpans inside cabinet

doors and hung from my ceiling, they work GOOD!

Im thrilled with how our dining room looks, and so happy to dress my home up in Halloweenstyle, that feels pretty and creepy at the same time.

Happy Halloween, may your month be filled with yummy treats.
