Commissioners add $10M to small-biz grant fundpast several months you ha-ven’t had any money to buy inventory.”
Business owners apply for funding at www.wilco.org/forward and the appli-cation deadline is June 30.
More money neededMr. Heselmeyer and Pct.
3 Commissioner Valerie Covey of Georgetown each said that without addition-al funding, on top of the initial $25 million, Wilco
Forward will run out of money before the June 30 application deadline.
“I think by the end of the month we will have 3,400 approved applications,” Mr. Heselmeyer said.
“We have had a signifi-cant response from the small-business communi-ty,” Commissioner Covey said. “Helping our small businesses and the employ-ees of those businesses
during this very trying time has been the county’s pri-ority. I want to encourage other Wilco small business-es to apply — if they hav-en’t — through the month of June.” Wilco Forward
funding comes from $93.3 million county government received from the federal government’s Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities (CARES) Act.

Officials expect more mail-in ballotsand county elections staff to familiarize themselves with new health and safety measures. These measures — such as keeping voters 6-feet apart and frequently cleaning election equip-ment — could carry over until the November presi-dential election, when far greater turnout is expected.
County Judge Bill Grav-ell agreed with Mr. Davis’ assessment.
“This is going to be a good practice run for us,” he said. “We’re going to learn what we can do better.”
Commissioners voted 5-0 to accept a $500,000 grant from the Texas Secretary of State’s office to help pay for additional costs includ-ing printing more absentee ballots, postage, purchasing cleaning supplies and pro-tective equipment, provid-ing enhanced training and
paying for overtime.Texas has received a total
of $24.5 million for those purposes as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and the 2002 Help America Vote Act (HAVA).

About the Sun
On May 19, 1877, The Williamson County Sun printed its first issue, a simple four-page broad-sheet. Today the Sun, over 142 years old, con-tinues to publish on the Square in Georgetown and is the longest-run-ning business in the county. In 1974, the Sun added a weekend paper, The Sunday Sun.
