At Security 2010 visitors will have the chance to see the INERGEN ® plus extinguishing system from TOTAL WALTHER GmbH, an innovative solution that fights fire effectively, safely and in an environmentally friendly way, leaving no residues. The new INERGEN ® plus – developed from the field-proven INERGEN ® inert gas extinguishing system – offers a new constant pressure regulation feature, giving it greater operational reliability and fire suppression efficiency whilst simultaneously allowing customers to save on installation and infrastructure-related costs. The new INERGEN ® plus gaseous extinguishing system works on the principle of oxygen displacement using INERGEN ® – an extinguishing agent comprising three naturally occurring inert gases: nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide. The new constant pressure technology brings the following advantages: When an alarm sounds, the connected FAST 2000 ® fire detection and control system will, after visual and audible signals, activate a primed control gas cylinder, which opens the valves of the INERGEN ® extinguishing agent cylinders pneumatically and, at the same time, supplies control pressure to the individual pressure control valves on the cylinders. The pressure control valves are central to the INERGEN ® plus technology. They are activated by means of adjustable control pressure, which can be set to either 25, 40 or a maximum of 60 bar, according to the pipe network pressure required, and reduce the 300 bar cylinder pressure accordingly. The extinguishing gas is therefore able to flow through the manifold and into the nozzle pipe network at a constant rate and pressure. This prevents any short-term pressure peaks at the start of the extinguishing process. As a result, the pipe diameter and wall thickness and the purging pressure release surfaces can be sized more economically.

Clean, safe, efficient INERGEN® plus – the innovative fire extinguishing system

helps protect people, the environment and property from fire

In addition to its primary role of preserving life, other concerns, such as protecting the climate and our environment, preserving valuables and supporting the continuity of business operations in the event of a fire, are becoming increasingly important in the field of extinguishing technology today. At Security 2010 visitors will have the chance to see the INERGEN® plus extinguishing system from TOTAL WALTHER GmbH, an innovative solution that fights fire effectively, safely and in an environmentally friendly way, leaving no residues. The new INERGEN® plus – developed from the field-proven INERGEN® inert gas extinguishing system – offers a new constant pressure regulation feature, giving it greater operational reliability and fire suppression efficiency whilst simultaneously allowing customers to save on installation and infrastructure-related costs. The new INERGEN® plus gaseous extinguishing system works on the principle of oxygen displacement using INERGEN® – an extinguishing agent comprising three naturally occurring inert gases: nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide. The new constant pressure technology brings the following advantages:

• When an alarm sounds, the connected FAST 2000® fire detection and control system will, after visual and audible signals, activate a primed control gas cylinder, which opens the valves of the INERGEN® extinguishing agent cylinders pneumatically and, at the same time, supplies control pressure to the individual pressure control valves on the cylinders.

• The pressure control valves are central to the INERGEN® plus technology. They are activated by means of adjustable control pressure, which can be set to either 25, 40 or a maximum of 60 bar, according to the pipe network pressure required, and reduce the 300 bar cylinder pressure accordingly.

• The extinguishing gas is therefore able to flow through the manifold and into the nozzle pipe network at a constant rate and pressure. This prevents any short-term pressure peaks at the start of the extinguishing process. As a result, the pipe diameter and wall thickness and the purging pressure release surfaces can be sized more economically.

• Extended flooding periods from 60 seconds to a maximum of 20 minutes are also possible, allowing the required extinguishing concentration to be maintained throughout the entire flooding period. A modular design based on CI valve technology supports the retrofitting of existing systems. All test floodings of the German-engineered extinguishing system performed to date have been successful.

The INERGEN® extinguishing agent also has a number of field-proven benefits: the gas extinguishes the fire without leaving residue and does not pose any risk to people present. INERGEN® has the effect of stimulating breathing, ensuring that any injured or unconscious people located within the flooding area who are unable to leave the area during the warning period have sufficient oxygen. Its properties make INERGEN® the perfect extinguishing medium for use in rooms containing items of high value, such as electrical switchgear and distribution rooms, IT facilities, or even industrial facilities, museums and libraries.
