GYAN MANTHAN REPORT 2017

Gyan Manthan, The Royal Mela which is one of the most awaited events of Royal College

of Arts, Science and Commerce was organized on 26th and 27th of August2016. Gyan

Manthan 2016 witnessed an overwhelming response from participants, both intercollege

and intracollege. Participants enjoyed the event.

There were fun games in mathematics and psychology, Pictionary, PowerPoint

Presentation, Eco Rangoli, Skits, Chem housie, Mehendi application, Poster

Competitions, Video Matinee, Inter-Collegeiate Carrom Tournament, Elocution, Debate,

Food Stalls and many more.

A brief report of all the events is stated below.

Date: 18/08/2017

1. Treasure Hunt

This event was organized in and around the college and college campus by the Chemistry

Department (Degree). There were 11 teams altogether.

2. Video Matinee

This event was organized by the Chemical Association (Degree College) in Mun

Auditorium. There were 21 participants from Degree College. Here, the participants were

shown videos on chemistry topics and based on those videos oral quiz was conducted.

3. Chem Housie (Junior College)

This event was organized by the Chemical Association in room no. 313. There were 23

participants, all from Junior College. It was like normal housie using the numbers of

periodic table with clues to identify the given elements.

4. Fun Chem (Junior College)

The event was organized by the Chemistry Department of Junior College in room no, 313

where, the participants were given questionnaire related to Chemistry. The participants

formed a group of 2-3 since they picked up chits. The total no. of participants for this

event was 33, all from Junior College.

5. Debate Competition (Degree College)

This event was organized by the Hindi Department (Senior) in room no. 202. The debate

was conducted on the topic, ‘कामकाजीमहिलाअच्छीमााँसाहितिोसकतीिै।‘. There were total

16 no. of participants, all from Junior College. The event was judged by Mrs. Pradnya

Dalvi and Mrs. Tabassum Khan.

6. Carrom Tournament

The event was organized by the Sports Committee in Gymkhana, ground floor. It was an

Inter-Collegiate Competition held exclusively for professors with total no. of 9 participants

from 6 different colleges. The event was judged by Parvinder Singh (Carrom referee of

Maharashtra)

7. Hidden- Explore The Unknown Psychological Games

The event was organized by the Department of Psychology in Library- Reading Room from

9:30am to 2:15pm. The games were developed based on the principles of cognition,

coping styles, attachment styles, bilateral transfer, co-dependency, conflict management

style etc. Games included were, Do I Love Too much, Mix Magic Match, Magic Mirror,

Tower of Power, Entangled, Deceptive Eyes, Weakness Is Strength, Connectivity Style,

What is Your Conflict Management Style? Also there were Psychological tests conducted

on shyness, loneliness, forgiveness, text anxiety which were conducted for the

participants. There were 412 participants altogether, out of which 340 were from Junior

College and 72 from Degree College.

8. Bio Blast (Quiz)

Bio Blast was a quiz programme conducted by the Biology Department of Junior College

in room no. 205. The event was based on 5 five rounds namely,

1) Unscramble the crumble

2) Who am I?

3) Crossword

4) Spellathon

5) Visual

It took 2 hours to get completed and there were 30 participants, all from Junior College.

9. Bidding Wars

The event was organized by the BMS Department of Degree College in room no. 308. It

started around 12:15pm. The first round was all about bidding, to basically make an

amusement park. The 4 qualified teams round 1 were asked to give formal presentation

justifying the reasons about what made them buy particular thing. In the ends, 2 teams

were the winners. The event was judged by Prof. Ganesh (Round 1) and Prof. Nadeem

(Round 2).

10. Micro Parody

The event was organized by ARaMB (Microbiology Department) in room on 206.

Microbiological concept was lyricized on the tunes on any popular Bollywood song, either

solo, duet and triplet. The event was judged by Prof. Vilasini G. and Prof Radhika D.

11. Micro resume

The event was organized by ARaMB (Microbiology Department) in room 206. The

participants had to present a power point presentation of 8 minutes on any given micro-

organism and the details had to be presented in the form of resume. It was an Inter-

Collegiate event judged by Prof. Farhaan M. and Prof. Zamanat S. Total no. of

participants were 7 (Degree College).

12. Documentary Making

The event was organized by NSS in room no. 106. There were 5 teams altogether, all

from Degree College and they had to present the documentaries made by themselves.

Documentaries were on Pollution, Poverty, Eve teasing, Transportation issues. The event

was judged by Navita Pandey Nirankavi.

13. Food Stall (Degree College)

The event was organized by the Students’ Council. There were 14 no. of participants, all

from Degree College in the labs. The event was judged by Prof. Anand Singh and Prof.

Asif Attar.

14. Geometric Design

The event was organized by the Maths Club Junior in room no 303 wherein, the students

drew different designs using geometric figure only. Time limit was one hour. No. of

participants in the event were 36, all from Junior College. The event was judged by Prof.

Pradnya Dalvi and Prof. Shaista Sayed.

15. Maths Housie

The event was organized by the Maths Club in room no. 302. The participants ere had to

solve maths problems and the answer were to be cut from the Housie Ticket. There were

26 teams, 2 participants in each team, 10 from Junior College and 42 from degree

college.

16. Coding-Decoding (Enigma)

The event was organized by the Maths Club in room no. 302. The participants had to

decode the alphanumeric codes. It consisted of 2 rounds, 1st of objectives and 2nd of

subjectives. There were 15 participants altogether out of which 2 were from Junior

College and 13 from Degree College.

17. Pictionary

The event was organized by the Maths Club in room no. 302 which included

mathematical dumb charades consisting of 2 rounds. 1st of 3 objects and 2nd of 2

cartoon characters. Total no. of participants was 18 out of which 6 were from Junior

College and 12 from Degree College.

18. Eco-Rangoli Competition

The event was organized by the Bioscience Department (Degree College) in the corridors

of 1st floor, near Bio Labs. Here the students had to make eco-rangoli in a group of 2. It

was based on the theme- Biodiversity Care and Conservation. The materials supposed to

be used were strictly eco-friendly and biodegradable. Total 11 no. of students had

participated out of which 1 was from Junior College and 10 from Degree College. The

event was judged by Prof. Vilasini G. and Dr. Nandini K.

19. Slogan Writing (E-Waste)

The event was organized by the Biosicence Department (Degree College) in the Zoology

Lab. Students were given a fixed time to write slogans on the spot individually, based on

the themre- E-waste. There were 7 no. of participants. The event was judged by Prof.

Vilasini G. and Dr. Nandini K.

20. Biz-Quiz

The event was organized by Commerce Association in room no. 106. It was a business

Quiz comprising of an elimination round followed by the final A.V. Round. In order to tap

the intellect of the students in the world business, this event was organized. It was an

Inter-Collegiate event wherein 19 teams had participated from 7 different colleges all

over Mumbai. From 19 teams, 4 teams were qualified for the final round. There were

total 38 participants, all from Degree College.

21. Desi Dumb Charades with GK Twist

The event was organized by the Economics Department in 202. The first round was the

buzzer round, where 30 GK questions were asked to 8 teams, 2 members in each team.

The second round was chit round, were each team came and selected a chit and enacted

the statement written on the chit. Then 5 questions were asked on each state to the

group and then results were declared. There were 16 no. of participants, all from Degree

College.

22. Fashion Eye Make Up

The event was organized by FACC in room no. 203 and it started at 11:00am. It was an

hour event. Theme was open theme. The event was judged by Prof. Shaista and Prof.

Rinku. Total no. participants were 36 out of which 15 were from Junior College and 21

from Degree College.

23. Shoe/Umbrella Painting

The event was organized by FACC in room no. 203. It started at 12:30pm and went on till

1:30pm. The theme was an open theme. The participants used their creative skills to

paint shoes and umbrellas. There were 13 participants, 9 from Junior College and 4 from

Degree College. It was judged by Prof. Rinku and Ms. Hamida.

24. Short Film Making

The event was organized by FACC in room no. 203. Participants here, were asked to

make a short film of not more than 5 minutes. The theme was Expectations v/s Reality. It

had to be humorous. The same was shown in room no. 203 which started at 1:302pm

and ended at 2:15pm. There were 4 participant’s altogether, 2 from Junior College and 2

from Degree College. The event was judged by Prof Renu Khandelwal and Prof. Smita

Cheripalli.

25. Fashion Sketching

The event was organized by FACC in room no. 203. It started at 9:30pm consisting of 46

participants, 21 from Junior College and 25 from Degree College. The theme was Bridal

and time allotted was 1 hour. The students came up with brilliant and creative ideas. The

event was judged by Prof. Mini Singh and Prof. Humera Zubairy.

26. Physics Seminar

The event was organized by Royal Physics Club in room no. 205. It started at 10:00am

with 10 participants, 1 from Junior College and 9 from Degree College. Participants

presented their presentation from the topics given, based on Physics behind the events.

The event was judged by Prof. Farhaan Makba and Prof. Mandar V.

27. Treasure Hunt

The event was organized by Royal Physics Club in room no. 307. There were 40 teams

from Junior and Degree College who gave their names out of which only 29 teams were

present during the event. In the elimination round, 15 teams were selected and played

next round. In that round qualified teams were asked to collect 5 clues. Total no. of

participants was 29 out of which 11 were from Junior College and 18 from Degree

College.

28. Songs (Festivals)

The event was organized by the Literary Association in room no. 207. August being the

festival season there was no better than the recital of the festive spirits the various

festivals brought in. The theme for the rendition of songs were “Songs based on

Festivals”

“त्योिारोोंपरआधाररतगीत”. There were 13 participants, all from Junior College. The event

was judged by Prof. Sapna Pujari and Prof. Vidya Bhakta.

29. Miss Entrepreneur

The event was organized by WDC in room no. 312. The students had to showcase their

talents which they want to pursue as their careers. There were 3 participants, all from

Degree College. The event was judged by Prof. Valasini G. and Prof. Aarthi.

30. Collage

The event was organized by WDC in room no. 201. It was based on the theme, ‘Media

and Women’s Exploitation’. The students showed various form of exploitation in media.

There were 5 participants out of which 1 was from Junior College and 4 from Degree

College. The event was judged by Prof. Jyotsna Haran, Prof. Parveen Shaikh and Prof.

Rugma Nair.

31. Code Challenge

The event was organized by the Info- T Club in the lab, 109. It was an event where

students of Junior and Degree Junior, Computer Science showed their logical and strong

syntax knowledge of programming. Rules and question were given to students. The time

limit was 1 hour and the judgment was given on the basis of correct output, less number

of code lines, and logic. There were 14 participants in all. 2 were from Junior College and

12 from Degree College. The event was judged by Rof. Ritika Lala and Prof. Kamlesh Pal.

32. Video Matinee Show

The event was organized by Info- T Club in Mun Auditorium, 5th Floor. The audience were

shown videos and based on those videos questions were asked. Students giving correct

answers were awarded chocolates. The aim of the event was to hone the observation

skills of the students, compelling them to notice the tiniest of details in order to gain the

chocolates.

33. Skit

The event was organized by WDC in room no. 205. The skit on the topic, ‘Domestic

Violence” There were 2 teams, both from Degree College. The event was judged by Prof.

Parveen and Prof. Komal.

34. Quiz Mania

The event was organized by the Info- T Club in room no. 106. It was computer based quiz

for Degree College, Computer Science students. On 18/08/18 elimination round was

conducted of 11 teams however, only 8 teams got the opportunity to show their strong

knowledge of computer basics on final quiz. It contained 4 rounds and the winners were

decided on the basis of scores.

35. Logo Design

The event was organized by the INFO-T Club in the computer lab, room no. 108. Here the

participants designed logos for brands related to computer and IT fields such as Apple,

Intel, Microsoft, Doordarshan, Linux. Total no. of participants was 16, 4 from Junior

College and 12 from Degree College. The event was judged by Prof. Aarti B.

36. Power Point Presentation

The event was organized by the Literary Association in Mun Auditorium, 5th floor. The

competition was organized with an intention to probe into the concept of creativity and

presentations using power point facility. The participant groups were given 5 minutes of

presentation time. It was a team presentation constituting of two students in each team.

The event was judged by Prof. Sindhu Harikumar and Prof. Juee Shah.

37. Mono Acting

The event was organized by Literary Association in room no. 202. Mono Acting is an art

form which involves both, acting as well as intelligent representation. Two or more

characters are performed by the same participant shifting positions. Ability to switch

roles impulsively was tested. The no. of participants was 4, all from Junior College. The

event was judged by Prof. Pradnya Dalvi and Prof. Aarti Babuji.

38. Extempore Speech

The event was organized by the Literary Association in room no. 202. Extempore is a

impromptus speech done without preparation. The participants were given one-minute

time for preparation and their ability to relate to the topic and deliver substantial context

was evaluated. There were 12 participants, all from Junior College. The event was judged

by Prof. Humera Zubairy and Prof. Rehan Momin.

39. Physics Mela

The event was organized by Royal Physics Club in college library. There were 5 games

which had Physics phenomenon was kept in the library. Students were asked to play

games and try to understand Physics behind the games.

40.Mehek Mehendi Ki

Mehendi competition started sharp at 11:30am in room no. 203 by FACC. All the

participants were very enthusiastic and were very much engrossed in Mehendi making

art. Students showed lots of creativity. There were 53 participants, 30 from Junior

College and 23 from Degree College. The event was judged by Prof. Shaista and Ms.

Hamida.

41. Quilling Competition

The event was organized FACC in room no. 203. The competition started at 9:00am. It

was 1½ hours event. The students were very creative and they came up with brilliant

ideas. There were 23 participants altogether out of which 10were from Junior College

and 13 from Degree College. The event was judged by Prof. Komal W. and Prof. Juee

Shah.

42. Sling bag Making

The event was organized by FACC in room no. 203. Here, ready and easy to use sling

bags were made from waste like used jeans pants, curtains, etc. There were 6

participants altogether out of which 3 were from Junior College and 3 from Degree

College. The event was judged by Prof Radhika A. D’souza and Ms. Hamida.

43. Dance Competition

The event was organized by FACC on 5th floor, terrace. It started at 1:50pm. It was

conducted smoothly with the help of volunteers. There were 19 participants altogether, 8

from Junior College and 11 from Degree College. It was judged Prof. Rajeeta and Prof.

Ravishree.

44. Tricky Brain Game

The event was organized by the Economics Department in room no. 312. There were 6

rounds which were related to crossword, memory, awareness, ‘Bhujo Toh Jaane’ and

many questions. There were 18 participants, all from Degree College.

45. Elocution Competition

The event was organized by the Economics Department in room number 312. The topics

included were,

1) Role of Technology

2) Importance of Infrastructure

3) Small is beautiful

4) The ‘Fake News’ – its phenomenon and danger

There were 9 participants, all from Degree College and was judged by Prof Rita and Prof

Navita.

46. Power Point Presentation – Aids to Trade

The event was organized by Commerce Association in Mun Auditorium, 5th floor. It was a

P.P.T. presentation. The topic to be highlighted was Aids to Trade. Auxiliaries of trade

which facilitate trade were highlighted. There were 6 participants altogether, all from

Junior College. The event was judged by Prof. Raju Kurian and Prof. Hema.

47. Poster Making

The event was organized by the Department of Bioscience in room no. 101. It was

individual participation from the students. Amazing facts about plants and animals were

revealed by the students. There were 6 participants, all from Degree College.

48. Bottle and Terrarium Garden

The event was organized by the Department of Biosciences in room no. 101. It was all

about making a garden in bottle or fish tank (Terrarium). There were 2 students in each

team. The students were supposed to use non-flowering plants and variegated leaves.

They were required to beautify the bottle or tank with stones. There were 9 participants,

all from Degree College.

49. Game Stall

The event was organized by Maths Club in college library the Rubik Cube included 26

participants, Chess was played by 50 students and Snake & Ladder was played by 46

participants. In total, there were 122 participants.

50. Maths Seminar

The event was organized by Maths Club in room no. 302. The students prepared Power

Point Presentations on different ancient Indian Mathematicians. They showed their

contribution and work in the field of Mathematics. There were 16 participants, all from

Junior College. The event was judged by Prof. Sapna and Prof. Rehan.

51. Sudoku and Mathdoku

The event was organized by Maths Club in room no. 207. There were 24 participants

altogether, all from Junior College.

52. Food Stall (Junior College)

The event was organized by Student’s Council in Biology and Physics labs. The event was

judged by Prof. Vilasini and Prof. Chitra.

53. Street Play

The event was organized by NSS Unit in room no. 308. The Competition highlighted

various social issues in Indian Society. The main objective was to create awareness

about crucial social issues. Another aim was to train volunteers about to connect with

society by effective use of street play. There were 6 teams, all from Degree College. The

event was judged by Prof. Rugma Nair and Prof. Rita P.

54. Chem Housie

The event was organized by Chemical Association of Degree College in 205. It was an

individual event based on the properties on elements. There were 20 participants, all

from Degree College.

55. Fun Chem

The event was organized by Chemical Association (Junior College) in 313. Simple and fun

oriented questions were asked, related to Chemistry to enhance their interest Chemistry.

There were 39 students altogether, all from Junior College.

56. Chem Housie

The event was organized by Chemical Association in room no. 313. It was like normal

housie using atomic number of elements from periodic table. There were 41 participants

altogether, all from Junior College.

57. Mock Stock

The event was organized by the Department of BMS/BAF in room no. 109. There was

stock market simulation game. Around 64 students in 32teams from our college

participated in elimination round and 12 teams qualified of 2 members each for the final

Mock Stock game. Brokers were allocated to each team to assist them in Trading of

shares. Entire game was played on excel data sheet in computer lab, room no, 109.

There were 36 participants, all from Degree College.

58. Painting of Mumbai Birds

The event was organized by NISARG. Common birds of Mumbai were selected and with

details as name, call, habitat was presented on A - size papers. Any color was allowed to

use. Main aim was to generate interest in birds and also to make aware of biodiversity of

birds in Mumbai. There were 19 participants altogether, both from Junior and Degree

College. The event was judged by Prof. Vinita Mohite and Prof. Sheetal.

59. Elocution

The event was based on Gender Inequality, Women in India and Gram Swachta Abhiyan

in room no. 206 to allow students to express their ideas over the topics. The purpose was

to enhance the knowledge of participants and audience students. Total participants were

5, all from Degree College. The event was judged by Prof. Rugma and Prof. Rita.

Theme : Destigmatise Mental Illness

Objective: To provide a platform to student to apply persuasive strategies to

communicate mental health issues through advertisements.

and Research for Women. (B.Ed College)

The department of Psychology organized an intercollegiate event on the theme:

“Destigmatise the mental illness”. This event had two competitions and each college

could send one team per event. Event 1 was: Break the Silence, which was a team event,

4 participants per team. There were 2 rounds, first was Audio Visual round where 60

seconds were given to present the prepared ad (jingle or audio visual) and round 2 was

impromptu wherein the name of an advertisement for it. The time allotted was 20

minutes for preparation and 2 minutes for presentation. There were five teams for this

event and team no.5 ie Nagindas Khandwala college won the competition. The decision

was based on points of both the rounds.

Event 2 was Print Ad where number of participants per team was two. The team was

suppose to design a poster on a given Mental illness and develop a corresponding

message focusing to destigmatize the same. The time allotted was 30 mins and the

paper size A-3. There was 5 teams for this event, and team number 3 ie. Maharashtra

College won this competition.

All participants were given Participation certificates and winners of both competitions

were awarded cash prizes along with merit certificates.
