August happenings,
Some ofus visited Chapter E on the 9th. Troy finished some Spring Fling business by presenting randy
and Deloris Galloway their plaque for Chapter Diretors of the Year . Congratulations Randy and Deloris !!
Our chapter gathering was on the sameday. We had 2 plaques to give away, the Couple of the Year
plaue and the Middle/West Tennessee Traveling plaque. We had a good crowd with members of
Chapters A, E, H, N, and Y joining us. Visitation seems to be making a comeback. It’s good to visit and
fellowship with other chapters. We have made so many friends from across the country through our
membership in GWRRA. That’s what it’s all about!.
Chapter N’s Couple of the Year captured the COY Plaque and Chapter E made their way back to
Symrna with the Middle /West Tennesse plaque in tow.Congratulations to both chapters.
We had a dinner ride to the Beacon Light Restaurant on the 16th. Charlie and Judy, James and
Jerlene, Joe and Debra, Charlie and Pam, Herschel and Sherrie, Bill and Debbie had a nice ride and a
good meal. Their claim to fame is their tea biscuits which are served with peach and strawberry
preserves. The main meal was excellent as well. The evening was great for the bikes ot be out.
On the 24,th, we had a bike show as part of our fundraiser selling Belk Charity Day tickets. We tried
to get all of the bang for our bucks that we could and made it a motor awareness and recruitment event
as well. We have been partnering with Belk to sell ticket to their Charity Sale for 2 years now. Thanks to
all who helped witht the event . If you have ever put on a bike show or fundraiser, you know that there
is a lot of work to it. Thanks to Charlie and Judy, Sherrie and Herschel, Tommy, James and Jerlene, Bill
and Debbie, Larry, Chuck and Cindy, Steve, Bruce and Lynn forall of your help. You guys are the best !!!!
Herschel and Sherrie , Bill and Debbie, Charlie and Judy and Pam went to McAlisters Deli for a light
lunch after we finished at Belk and then they all followed me home to help unload our equipment.
Charlie Huffman was in Murfreesboro putting on a Medic First Aid/ CPR class for Chapter Y so he
misseed out on all of the fun. Sometimes there’s just not enough Saturdays in the month for everything
so we divide and conquer.
On the 26th, Bill and Debbie and I went to the Gaylord in Nashville to help with the preregistration
for Wing Ding . We joined about 25 or 30 other Tennessee Goldwingers to distribute packets to folks
from around the world. I pulled packets from Austrailia, Canada, Denmark and all over the USA. We
hope you all had a good time visiting Nashville. There were a lot of good guided rides across the area.

Hello Everyone,
Really not much to tell this month.
Tommy did attend the Bike show at Belk in Columbia. This was also Belk’s charity event.
We’ve not done much due to health issues that occurred this month. We hope that we are on
the mend. Hope to see everyone in September. So all of us let’s have fun, be safe and knowledgeable.

RIDE COORDINATORS
We have lots of opportunities this coming couple
of months. Check out our calendar for specific dates and
events. Be sure to plan for next week's ride to Rattlesnake
Saloon (Sept 21st) for the all chapter ride. Charlie will lead and it
always proves to be a great time and great food to boot. You will
probably see some faces you haven't seen in a while. Pinewood
Store and Kitchen and Miller’s Grocery are always unique places

to visit too and they are on our list. Keep a check on WNKX KIX
96 FM radio or Facebook for any interesting guests on Grinder’s
Switch Hour Radio Show and we’ll do that venue again. Also,
I’m looking at planning a trip to Bon Aqua on our next meeting
day in October to The Storyteller’s Museum.
I have a binder full of ride ideas but if you have something you want to do or see or a place to eat, please let us know so we can plan it for you. Pam would like to go up in a hot air balloon so we are planning a trip to Clinton, Tn in October (26th) for their Balloonfest. You may want to ride in one too so reserve that date to join us. I will watch that from afar but I will enjoy seeing you all try it. Hopefully we can catch some fall color there. We want your company even if you drive a vehicle so please join us. Don’t miss out on the fun. Herschel and Sherrie

MONTHLY NOTES
September 2019- THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC
30 Days have September, April, June and November. All other months have 31 days, except February. It alone has 28 days, and 29, one year in four. SEPTEMBER is our nineth month in the year. It was named from the Latin word “septem” because this had been the seventh month of the early Roman calendar. The flowers for September: are the Aster, and Morning Glory. The Birthstones: are the Sapphire, Agate, Moonstone, Lapis Lazuli, Diamond, and Chrsolite.
It reports that this will be the first full moon visible across the
U.S. on Friday the 13th since Oct. 13, 2000. The next one
isn’t expected to happen again for another 30 years---on
August 13, 2049.

Colors for September s are: brown and deep blue. Thoughts for September: shrewdness, love, and clear thinking. September 2, Labor Day in the United States of America is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday of September. It honors the American Labor Movement and the power of collective action by laborers, who are essential for the workings of society. On September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers marched for labor rights down the streets of Manhattan, New York. Before that time the average American worked 12 hours a day, six days a week. It wasn’t until the Adamson Act passed on September 3, 1916 that our modern eight hour work day was established. Fall - Autumn begins on September 23. The weather in the month of September here in the Middle TN area is usually still hot for the most part. Especially in this year of 2019, September weather has been averaging in the 90’s. Fall is the major time of year for leaves changing color. What causes the leaves to change color? First of all, not all leaves turn vivid colors in the fall. Only a few of our many species of deciduous trees-notably maple, aspen, oak, and gum – produce stellar performances for our annual autumn spectacular in North America. Several factors contribute to fall color, temperature, precipitation, and soil moisture. However, the main agent is light, or actually the lack of it. The amount of daylight relates to the timing of the autumnal equinox. As the days grow shorter, the reduced light triggers chemical changes in deciduous plants. I guess you
have noticed how much shorter the days have become in just the last few weeks. The combination of reduced light, lack of nutrients, and no water add up to the death of the pigment Once the green is gone, two other pigments show their bright faces. These pigments , carotene (yellow) and anthocyanin (red) , exist in the leaf all summer but are masked by the chlorophyll. (the browns in autumn leaves are the result of tannin, a
chemical that exists in many leaves, especially oaks.) Sugar trapped in autumn leaves is largely responsible for the vivid color. Some additional anthocyanins are also manufactured by sunlight acting on the trapped sugar. This is why the foliage is so sparkling after several bright fall days and more pastel during rainy spells.
