C hapter Directors’ Corner__________________________ Mel & Rene McInerney
Hi All;
Where has our summer gone? Here it is September already and the riding season is going
to start winding down.
August was a very busy month for some of us. James and I were able to enjoy a very suc-
cessful trip out west starting in Sturgis, S.D. for Bike Week. We only stayed 3 days but were
able to ride the Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway, threading the "Eye of the Needle".
We also visited the Crazy Horse Monument which has made a lot of progress in the fifteen
years since I last saw it. Downtown is always a spectacular event with all of the "Different
People" and the thousand of motorcycles and hundreds of vendors. Riding the Black Hills is
the best part, a "must see" once in your life but that's just my opinion since this was my 2nd
trip. The rugged beauty is Awesome.
After Sturgis we proceeded on thru Laramie and Cheyenne Wyoming, Estes Park and the
Cliff Dwellings in Colorado Springs, Colorado. From there we ran out of time and had to jet
home thru New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and home to Tennessee. We rode a little
over 4,000 miles thru 12 states with no mechanical or physical issues except a little overheat-
ing on both. It was a great trip overall.
On August 22nd, we had 9 members on 7 bikes meet at the Lenoir City Walmart and head
for Lamberts Restaurant, "Home of the Throwed Rolls", in Sikeston, Missouri. We stopped at
several Fire Stations to and from as well as all of the ones in Sikeston. We met up with George
and Vida in Sikeston and we all had a great time and enjoyed the delicious food at Lamberts.
Everyone caught at least one "Throwed Roll" and Carroel caught an unexpected one in her
meat loaf splattering a few of us with catsup. Sometimes the throws are a little "Off Line". BE-
WARE.
Robert Scott led us on a great ride to Sikeston and on the way back he took us thru the
farm country of Missouri and Illinois to Metropolis so Renee could see Superman and we
could get another fire station. Thank you Robert for putting together this great ride and we
hope to do it again next year.

We had a great Wing Ding this year in "Rocket City", Huntsville, Alabama. By my count, Chapter M
had 22 members attend for at least 2 days. Randy and Marlene took the scenic route thru Birming-
ham. Some of us visited the U.S.Space & Rocket Center and were especially pleased to talk to some of
the engineers that actually worked in the Space Program. As always there were lots of vendors, food,
and entertainment.
Robert Russell and I both entered the paper airplane contest and we each and were able to fly a
plane into the Bushtec Trailer that was the target and prize. Eleven people flew planes into the trailer
out of the hundreds that tried. A member in Georgia won the trailer but Robert and I sure had fun
trying.
Hope they can do this again next year in Billings, Montana. Get your reservations in early!
Ride Safe;

RIDE DEFENSIVELY
Hi Everyone We are now well into the 2015 riding season and we hope that you are all enjoying it as much as we are. Many of you were able to attend this year’s Safety Weekend and were able to get some riding skills refreshed. By all accounts the participants learned new skills and picked up additional knowledge that can be used while out on those many rides. By the time this is read you may well be on your way to or back from Wing Ding and we hope you brought back some KNOWLEDGE you can share with your FRIENDS while having FUN and using SAFETY when out riding. If you have not been enable to take an ERC, TRC or other riding course please remember that…Nearly two-thirds of all motorcycle accidents are caused by a driver violating a riders right-of-way. Usually this is because the motorcyclists was not seen. To avoid this, YOU MUST RIDE AS IF NO ONE ELSE ON THE ROAD CAN SEE YOU! Helpful tips to re-member: *Slow down at intersections and ride through carefully. *Watch for turning vehicles. *Stay out of driver's blind spots. *Signal well in advance of any change in your driving pattern. *Don’t as-sume a driver sees you, even if eye contact is made. *Use your horn when necessary or if you aren't sure a driver can see where you are. *RIDE PROUD… DRESS LOUD Be careful when you ap-proach another vehicle. It's hard for drivers in oncoming vehicles to accurately judge how fast your motorcycle is moving. That's why it's up to you to make sure you can react safely if another driver suddenly turns or pulls out in front of you. Also, make sure you have plenty of space between you and the vehicles in front of you. Let your fellow riders know just how much PARTICIPATION = FUN. Re-member, if you don't look out for yourself on the road, no one else will.
Be Safe, Ride Safe

Chapter M “Fire Department” Contest Rules for 2015
Visit as many Fire Departments/ Fire Stations (FDFS) as you can. You must take a pic-
ture of your bike/bikes in front of the sign designating the FDFS or a picture of your
bike/bikes with the FDFS in the background.
A list of TN FDFS is located here:
http://www.tn.gov/fire/documents/masterinternetlist.pdf, but remember, you are not
restricted to only TN FDFS!
If a group visits a FDFS, then everyone but the photographer should be in the picture.
This allows for the fact that someone else may not be available to take the picture for
you.
The winner will be selected on a points system. Points will be awarded to each couple/
bike visiting the FDFS as follows (note groups will be considered 3 or more couples/
bikes):
1 point to each couple/bike for each FDFS visited (2 points to each in groups) OR,
2 points to each couple/bike if the FDFS is > 125 miles from the Chapter Meeting Loca-
tion (4 points to each in groups), OR
3 points to each couple/bike if the FDFS is > 250 miles from the Chapter Meeting Loca-
tion (6 points to each in groups) , OR
4 points to each couple/bike if the FDFS is > 500 miles from the Chapter Meeting Loca-
tion (8 points to each in groups).

2015 Fire Dept. Trivia
Each couple/bike in the group will receive an extra (1) point for each picture of a
FDFS that has at least one local Fireman/woman in the picture.
Also included in this year’s contest is a scavenger hunt related to FDFS, see attached
scavenger hunt page for questions & available points.
All distance calculations will be made using Mapquest and calculated from the Chap-
ter meeting location (Fort Loudoun Medical Center, Lenoir City) to each FDFS.
The DEADLINE FOR THE CONTEST IS NOVEMBER 10, 2015 (Chapter Gathering/
Meeting).
Any questions/concerns should be addressed to the Chapter Contest Coordinator, if
he can’t get them addressed, he will discuss them with the Contest Committee (CD,
ACD, Chapter Educator, Contest Coordinator, & COY). The decision of the Contest
Committee is final.
Prizes will be awarded at the Christmas Party in December 2015.
REMEMBER, the goal of this Contest is to get Chapter members out & riding the
beautiful roads of our Country, and to have a lot of fun doing it. The scavenger hunt
should provide an interesting and fun twist to this year’s contest! RIDE SAFE &
HAVE FUN!!!
