Language and Culture Learning Center The Sandi Port Errant Language and Culture Learning Center works to enhance teaching, literature, language and cul-tural learning in UIC’s School of Literatures, Cultural Studies and Linguistics. The School’s focus on interdisciplinarity fosters a culture of collaborative research between faculty and students and creates a vital community of scholars who share insights across disciplinary borders and cultivate connections with the broader Chicago community.

The Language and Culture Learning Center helps enrich the UIC community’s experience with foreign languages, litera-tures, and cultures by hosting culture-focused events such as conversation hours, film series, and language focused cultural events. All events are free and open to the public. Events take place in Grant Hall 308, unless noted otherwise.

The Office of Student Financial Aid

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) administers an array of federal, state and institutional programs. If you are in need of financial assistance, you are highly encouraged to complete the necessary paperwork by the appropriate deadlines. The OSFA website is designed to provide students with all the information they may need about types and sources of financial aid, deadlines, how to contact staff, links to other

FAFSA

The Aid Process

FAFSA: In order to be awarded financial aid at UIC, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year. The FAFSA will be available on October 1st each year— UIC’s priority filing deadline is December 1st.

PIN/FSA ID: You and your parent, if applicable, must have a Federal Student Aid Personal Identification Number (PIN) in order to be able to sign your electronic FAFSA. Students and a parent, if applicable, must have a Federal Student Aid ID (login) to sign the electronic FAFSA. You can get your PIN/FSA ID here.

UIC’s School Code: 001776 You must list UIC’s school code on their FAFSA. Otherwise, UIC will not receive your FAFSA information and cannot award you financial aid. UIC’s school code is 001776.

Student Status: Students are considered dependent or independent based on the information provided on the FAFSA. Most undergraduate students are considered dependent. All graduate and professional students are considered independent. Dependent students must report parental income information on their FAFSA. Dependency is not a status of choice. Dependency status for financial aid is not based on whether or not: a student lives with a parent, a student is financially self-supportive, or parents claim a student as a dependent on their taxes.

Student Aid Report (SAR): After receiving your FAFSA, the federal processor will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR) electroni-cally (unless you filled a paper FAFSA). The SAR lists all the information you submitted on the FAFSA and explains the EFC calculated from that information. Review the SAR for accuracy. To make any corrections, log on to the FAFSA website.
