Lean is at the core of our business,is overseen by the Board and led by the Chief Executive. As part of our Lean production processes we operate a Kaisen 5s system. All staff take part in Kaisen events with key focus on the Sort, Straighten and Shine elements. We Standardise all processes and we work to Sustain our methods of working.

Continuous Improvement

We run 5s improvement projects to reduce waste of both time and materials and invest regularly in improving production efficiency. Many excellent ideas for improving production have come forward from these projects.

A recent project was to install a Konigskilde waste extraction system to remove guillotine and punch waste from the production area. This allowed us to move to compacting our paper waste which reduced the number of lorry loads of waste we were generating each month from 12 to 4 thus significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Furthermore, we saved 12 man hours per week moving waste boxes around the factory and loading them onto trucks.

Sustainability

Most labels are printed on 80gsm paper; we have successfully trialled and are now producing labels using 75gsm paper. This represents a 6.25% weight saving reducing the carbon footprint of the labels and a similar cost saving on the paper. Given thatthe paper represents > 50% of the final label cost thisdelivers > 3% saving on the final label price.
