I’m Wessam. And U?Surprised to be on such informal terms? Well, that’s how we deal with each other at Giza Systems from interns to Chairman – we are all on first name basis. At Giza Systems, we’re also in the habit of asking questions. “And U?” which isn’t just an inquiry about your name, it’s also an invitation to consider what Giza Systems might be able to offer you, and what contribution you might be able to make to our organization. These are important questions, because one of our four corporate values is taking ownership in whatever we do and that means that the best solutions come from working together with colleagues and clients. In short: effective teamwork requires strong relationships, mutual respect, and regularly sharing knowledge and experience. Giza Systems’ success is based on our ability to work closely and effectively in teams. And to do that, we need people with outstanding capabilities both on the professional and personal levels.

We are always excited to find people who take responsibility and pursue their goals with determination; people who want to make things happen and are committed to developing on a permanent basis. As a systems integrator or a professional industry-focused technology services company, our first priority is to deliver professional expertise and efficient services to satisfy our clients. Having said that, we also aim to build client relationships based on integrity, trust and transparency – and these are also part of our four corporate values that are geared towards the long term plans of Giza Systems to enable everyone involved to derive real, lasting benefits.

We have just launched an internal program called ‘Becoming Distinctive’ and the idea behind it is to describe what our people and clients experience when they work with Giza Systems. The ‘Becoming Distinctive’ Program will provide our people with the necessary tools to help us as a company become distinctive in the marketplace. We want our clients to have a consistently positive experience when dealing with any member of our team at Giza Systems. By the same token, we want the same to apply to our people. Giza Systems is focused on enhancing value for its people and the aim behind all of this is to create a ‘great place to work’ experience where our people can fully understand and identify with the goals of our organization and see its realization.

Back in 1997, I was exactly in the same position as you are now. Who knows where you’ll be in ten or twenty years. I hope this guide helps you make the right decision for your future. It would be great if we could meet soon at Giza Systems!

I know I am looking forward to it!

Our Code of ConductBased on our core values, the Giza Systems Code of Conduct lays down the way Giza Systems’ people behave in all types of business situations. Putting the code into practice depends on the personal integrity and responsibility of every single person. Giza Systems employees pledge to follow the guidelines and encourage others to do so.

The ‘Becoming Distinctive’ Program

An organization can only develop a culture of sharing experience and mutual respect if every single person puts these values into practice on a daily basis. Giza Systems’ corporate culture revolves around originality and the sharing of knowledge and ideas, and is built on four strong values and behaviors. The ‘Becoming Distinctive’ Program links to these core values in a unique way providing our people with the tools to help us as a company become distinctive in the marketplace.

Our Values

We are committed to delivering quality service

We are innovators in the marketplace

We take ownership in whatever we do

We operate with integrity and trust

We are committed to quality and aim to always deliver what we promise by adding value beyond what our clients expect. We achieve this through commitment, learning, and agility.

Innovation means going to the marketplace and using this innovation to the benefit of our clients. It also means expressing our point of view which demands responsibility, courage and vision.

We take ownership in whatever we choose to do. The best solutions come from working together with colleagues and clients. And that effective teamwork requires strong relationships, mutual respect, and regularly sharing knowledge and experience.

We operate with integrity and trust with our people and with clients and that helped us create the successful company that we are now.

What Awaits You @ the Different Business Units? You are probably thinking what are business units anyway! At Giza Systems we are organized around business units that serve certain industry verticals. In other words, Business Units are teams that work together with members that have expert knowledge pertaining to a certain business or industry such as Telecom, Manufacturing or Banking. A single business unit works together on diversified business aspects of an industry with each member having a role that matches his/her expertise.

Each industry faces a different set of challenges that must be tackled in order to provide better and more efficient services. The business units are responsible for tackling these challenges and providing solutions that make these industries more productive and efficient. At Giza Systems, we are focused on adding value to our clients through the development of our people in these business units to build subject matter experts in our industry verticals.

As long as a meteor has not collided with earth and as long as the polar caps haven’t melted and no other catastrophe has wiped out human existence there will always be businesses and governments that sell or provide services. And as long as there are businesses and governments that provide services, there will always be a need for systems, infrastructure and applications that help serve the ever-growing number of business users.

The main sectors serviced by the Enterprise Business Unit are the Public Sector and Financial Institutions along with small and medium sized enterprises Whenever a government or a financial institution wants to implement a system that handles their operations or even when a small business that charters flights needs to make sure the work is ordered, they face incredible challenges that are most efficiently solved through a combination of systems, applications and infrastructure.

The industrial revolution that started in the 18th century was a critical point in the history of humanity and helped shape the world that we live in today. Even the little things we enjoy today and take for granted like water, electricity and food have been shaped by this revolution. The result is that in the modern world we have plants, factories and industries providing us with oil and gas, water, electricity and various food products delivered to us on a mass scale.

The increasing demand for production and the utilization of more machinery to meet those needs creates challenges about how to manage the

production process. Industries seek control systems that are able to control the machinery so that high quality, efficiency and productivity are ensured. Also in large plants and factories, in the presence of giant machines with complicated functionality, there needs to be not only safety measures, but also safety systems that ensure that no one is harmed in case of any malfunction. These safety systems need to be designed so as to make sure that no workers are hurt by machinery or leakage, that no fire breaks out and that our environment is not negatively affected by such leakage. These safety systems are also set up for the prevention of great financial loss in case of natural hazards.

As an integral part of that, we also provide our clients with Emergency Shutdown Systems that automatically shut down machinery that has become unstable and thereby preventing calamities like injuries, damage, financial loss and environmental hazards.

The telecom industry has been around for some time ever since Claude Chappe built the first fixed visual telegraphy system in 1792. Even before that, throughout history, people needed to communicate with one another across distances, whether it is through talking, writing to one another or providing various visual or audio signals from a distance. The objective of telecommunication is to communicate more information across great distances.

Not much has changed in the need for telecommunications, but the ever-present challenges

require solutions that would easily communicate more information across greater distances in less time. Today, more data is transferred to great distances than anyone thought possible. Not only can we see and talk to one another across continents, but also huge chunks of information are being shared worldwide between people of various age, belief, language and nationality. With more services being provided and with huge advancements in technology, the demands to provide these services in a more efficient and less costly means of delivery has become more impending.

What awaits you @ Consultation and Integration?

Every industry has a different set of goals and procedures to achieve its targets, and one of the most important things to think of is how to achieve these targets. The ‘how’ makes all the difference and acquiring the experience to do things right is painstaking. This experience does not come without a heavy cost. Industries employ highly experienced consultants in order to avoid the high costs of making mistakes and to advise them on how to maximize their efficiency and their productivity.

The need to catch up with technology introduces new systems and software to a company. These new systems need to work in existing environments in such a way so that all systems - new and old - function together. It’s much like when an organ transplant surgeon needs to make sure that the new organ isn’t rejected and functions properly with the rest of the body. For such situations, the industries call upon the expertise of integrators who manage to get systems to chime together harmoniously.

They also ensure that all the required testing procedures are carried out to ensure full customer satisfaction with the solutions designed for them.

Our priorities for accomplishing the goals of being a great place to work is to diversify our work force, retain and advance our people especially our top performers and improve our flexibility and work-life tools. To foster the behaviors that will enable us to achieve this goal, diversity and work-life activities are crucial. We believe an inclusive workplace enables us to take advantage of the talents of our diverse workforce, to improve the quality of our services and to grow our business. These priorities are fundamental to giving everyone the opportunity to succeed in achieving his or her personal and professional goals. It is also a business imperative tied to the company’s continued success and growth.

Fair and equal employment practices are inherent in this strategy. Affirmative action is a building block for these fair and equal employment practices. It is an integral component of our strategy for sustaining our overall business performance though enhanced regional market relationships, attracting and retaining the best talent and delivering the most innovative industry-focused solutions to our diverse client base.

We also believe that our people are more productive at work when they have the flexibility to successfully manage their lives outside work. Although new technologies are constantly being developed to complement current practices in creating greener structures, the common objective is that green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:

At Giza Systems, we recognize that our people are the key to sustaining the company’s record of quality service and growing even more. To attract, retain and advance the best people, we are committed to making Giza Systems a great place to work. We have started making positive steps to accomplish this - our people strategy is focused on this goal. Creating an open and flexible work environment is very important to our people strategy and the accomplishment of this goal.

If you’re a hard worker, team player, creative and studying at one of the reputable engineering faculties in Egypt, and you are looking for a challenge, we can offer you various internships in our different business units and in our supporting functions, as well. Without doubt, an internship is the best way of gaining practical experience in your planned career and finding out what the real world is like. You’ll get to work in interdisciplinary (and often international) teams on real projects, internally and externally.

In order to offer sufficient professional guidance, we only offer a limited number of internships each year in July and August. For example, in some departments, we have to take into account the confidentiality of our clients. We do our best to provide our interns with a wide range of interesting challenges during their internships at Giza Systems.

Throughout your internship you’ll receive support from our professionals, plus regular feedback on your development. You will be actively encouraged to contribute with your ideas and suggestions and take the initiative. It’s a great opportunity to learn, gain and share knowledge and to meet people at Giza Systems.

You’ll find details of current internship vacancies / openings on our careers section www.gizasystems.com/careers. The site is currently under construction, but in the near future it will feature an online application tool in addition to more useful information and tips on how to make a successful application.

Ideally you should send your application to us around four months before your chosen internship starts, but we will also be glad to consider applications that arrive later than this. And the best thing about an internship: you may become our campus ambassador or better yet, you may end up getting hired permanently.

As a company, we have a responsibility to both our people and to the communities in which we work. We are committed to having a positive impact on the people and the community around us and to operating with integrity and trust and taking ownership in everything we do.

In Egypt, we’re involved with a number of charity and community groups and many of our people give their time and skills to assist these organizations. One example is our work with ‘INJAZ’. This program resulted from an agreement between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Save the Children who agreed to grant ‘UN Volunteers Associate’ (UNVA) status to over 130 employees from private sector companies. Giza Systems decided to take an active role by contributing with 16 professionals who volunteered in Egyptian governmental schools teaching entrepreneurial skills to children between the ages of 10 and 13 and providing career advice. Through this program, called INJAZ - meaning ‘achievement’ in Arabic - private sector volunteers give 10 hours of their time to reach out and inspire a class of students.

Last year, we were proud to sponsor an awareness session on non-littering partnering with INJAZ as well by inviting students from the program to get them involved. In addition, our Chairman and Managing Director is a member of the board of INJAZ Egypt and had the pleasure of being on the judging panel of both the Egypt and the Regional Company competitions. These are only some of the initiatives that we participate in, hoping that it would have a positive impact on Egypt.

We are also involved with other programs like ‘Steps Towards Progress’ (STP), a program initiated by students from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering. In addition, we are proud and happy to sponsor graduation projects for Faculty of Engineering students from universities like Cairo, Ain Shams, Helwan, Menoufeya .. etc., Our team of professional engineers supports students by providing technical assistance, in addition to offering direct coaching. Supporting these graduation projects aims at stimulating interest and providing motivation for professionals to get involved in enhancing the student’s learning experience and to promote

excellence in learning in the area of engineering education. In addition, we try to choose graduation projects that fit with our strategic directions so, the funding could go to producing a commercial product.

Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor. Such donations save the lives of people in our communities and therefore we encourage our people to be generous in a slightly different way. Every year we organize blood donation campaigns inside the company in coordination with the ‘Egyptian Red Crescent’ or other NGO’s like ‘Resala’ as part of our responsibility towards the members of our community.

EnvironmentAs part of our move to New Cairo, we developed and will be implementing an environmental strategy, this includes programs in waste, energy and resource management to minimize our environmental impact.

Our building will include a number of ‘designed-in’ features including optimum control of air conditioning. Waste prevention, minimization and recycling are high environmental priorities at Giza Systems. We are targeting to reach a good percentage on waste management by end of 2010 by selling our waste to be recycled. We decided that the proceeds should go to sponsoring and supporting other community associations and services. In addition, the new office premises will also help with its new features to save energy through a number of solutions that will be integrated with the building management system.

As a member of today’s rapidly changing global community, we are striving to adapt to the evolving needs of our society and contribute to the overall health and wellness of Egypt. We are continually reviewing and improving our efforts to lessen our impact on the environment, nurture a workplace of diversity and inclusion, conduct responsible business practices, and uphold the highest ethical standards in everything we do. We choose to take an active role in our community – we care about the future of Egypt. How about you?
