PORTSMOUTH -The Seacoast Repertory

Theatre, 125 Bow St, Ports-mouth, will be offering their final show of the 2014 Season, “The Wizard of Oz,” through December 28. The classic story of Dorothy, a pair of heels, two witches, and finding your way home will play itself out on the Seacoast Rep stage throughout the Holiday season with a fan-tastic cast of characters. The Rep is able to present the show thanks to funds raised during an emergency crowd-sourcing cam-paign.

The Oz cast is a cross sec-

Rep’s operation. The launch of the campaign prompted a deluge of online and offline donations totaling in excess of $60,000 so far. The Rep opted to con-tinue the campaign and use it to springboard into a larger, ongo-ing capital campaign to help re-vitalize the theatre.

Tickets are available at the box office and at seacoastrep.org. Tickets to a special “Friends of The Rep” performance are available through the Indiegogo campaign. For artistic questions, contact Interim Artistic Director Miles Burns at 603-498-8202 or [email protected].

PORTSMOUTH – Food Talks will be present-

ing its final event of the season on Monday, December 15 at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre with a special holiday event with guest Chef James Haller, co-founder of the legendary Blue Strawbery and author of the “Blue Straw-bery” Cookbook. All five chefs who spoke this past season will be preparing their own versions of Chef Haller’s dishes for guests to enjoy. All proceeds from the evening’s event will benefit The Chef’s Collaborative.

“Chef Haller is a hero to all of us who cook in Portsmouth,”

says Producer and Chef Evan Mallet of Black Trumpet Bistro. “We think he’ll be a great way to close out our first season.”

Mallet is one of five chefs returning to cook and partici-pate at the event. Others include Matt Louis of Moxy, Gregg Ses-sler of Cava, Evan Hennessey of Stages at One Washington, and Mark Segal of Tinios Pro Hos-pitality Group. They will join Chef Haller onstage to discuss the evolution of food on The Sea-coast from the 1970’s to the pres-ent and beyond. Musical guests The Natural Casings will also perform.

“I’m so excited to have all of these talented people in one room, presenting dishes and talk-ing about the culinary history of the Seacoast. I don’t know that anything like this has happened before, which is exactly what we wanted to get out of this series,” says event host Brian Kelly.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Tick-ets are $50 for general admission and $25 for industry. Tickets in-clude food from all five chefs, a beer tasting from Smuttynose, champagne, and wine. Tickets are available through the Chefs Collaborative website at www.chefscollaborative.org.

DOVER -The 2014 Dover Fire Toy

Bank has been coordinated by current and retired members of the Dover Fire & Rescue for more than 37 years. The Toy Bank started out all those years ago helping a dozen families in the city, it has now grown to helping over 350 families. While Christ-mas typically conjures up visions of Santa and toys, we also provide educational aids, warm clothing, and boots to many children in Dover. Games and toys are fun; but this year as in the recent past, we are also anticipating an in-creased need for the fundamen-tals for many Dover families.

The Dover community - area businesses, seniors, families, school groups, civic groups and others have been very supportive and generous in the past. Dona-tions of toys, games, clothing, personal hygiene items, gift cer-tificates, and monetary donations have enabled us to help those less fortunate. The Dover Fire Toy Bank would not be successful without community help. This year the same great space for the Toy Shoppe as years past is being used.

Help and participation is being sought in the following ways:

Collect new toys within your organization for age groups from newborn to 13 years old. If you are looking for a specific need to fill, the infant and 9-13

age groups are always in need for both boys and girls. If you need a collection box, call 603-516-TOYS, leave a message and we will get you one for your business.

Purchase gift cards to area businesses, mall stores, and gro-cery stores are always appreci-ated - one size fits all!

Shop for hats and mit-tens, gloves and scarves that are needed for the cold winter; we like to see that each child receives these essentials.

Collect monetary donations within your organization and shopping for gifts helps greatly. If you don't have time to shop for these items, we will do it for you.

We will pick up donations at your site or you can drop off new, unwrapped items at these locations: Dover Central Fire Sta-tion - 9-11 Broadway, South End Fire Station - 27 Durham Road, or the North End Fire Station - 262 Sixth Street. Pick up will be anytime up until Christmas eve-ning. Monetary contributions can be picked up at your location or mailed to The Dover Fire Toy Bank, P.O. Box 1712, Dover, NH 03821-1712. Make checks payable to The Dover Fire Toy Bank.

For more information, con-tact Jenn Myers at 603-516-6300, Brendan Driscoll at 603-516-6153, Matt Adams at 603-516-6153 or Josh Ambrose at 603-516-6153 to help out with wrapping or for further information. You may also call 603-516 -TOYS (8697).

With only a third of the sea turtle stranding season behind them, the New England Aquarium has already provid-ed life restoring veterinary care to over 650 sea turtles. Over 250 sea turtles in stable condi-tion were flown out to Florida, Georgia, and North Caroline in past days to be distributed to rehabilitation facilities there. Hundreds of sea turtles remain in the Aquarium’s care in vari-ous stages of the re-warming and care process. Turtles con-

tinue to wash up on the beach-es during the twice-daily high tides.

Volunteer walkers from the Massachusetts Audubon Society comb dozens of miles of beach in search of the sea turtles. Stranded turtles are brought to veterinarians at the New England Aquarium facilities with extreme hypo-thermia, severe dehydration, pneumonia and often shell or bone fractures. Their treatment can last from several months to

two years. The New England Aquarium has also rescued and treated many green and logger-head sea turtles this season.

DOVER –Mary Kate and Ashley

Mary Kate and Ashley came to Cocheco Valley Humane Society as strays a few weeks ago and were never re-claimed. They are very bonded and we would love to see them find a home where they can stay together. They would do best in a home without cats and with kids 10-12 or older. They spend their days cuddling and wres-tling together and would do well with an active family. To help keep them together, they have a special companion adoption fee of $275. Both are already spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on their vaccines. Age: 1

DOVER –On Saturday, December

13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Santa Claus will be at Maple Suites Senior Living Community, 30 Holiday Drive, Dover, for a Santa Paws event benefitting the Cocheco Valley Humane Society.

Digital photos of pets with Santa will be taken for a suggested donation of $10 per photo with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting Cocheco Valley Humane Society and their shelter dogs and cats. The public is invited to attend and is encouraged to bring their dogs or cats to have their holiday

photos taken with Santa.During the holiday

season, local shelters are op-erating at capacity so the need for pet food, bedding, toys, and kennel supplies is at an all-time high while funding runs low this time of year. Those who donate to the Santa Paws pet event will be invited to stay for lunch at 12:30 p.m. on Satur-day, December 13. Raffles will also benefit the shelter. Photos with Santa for your pets will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointments are necessary.
