  • Orthographic Drawings

  • What does the word Orthographic Mean?Ortho 90 Degrees or right angleGraphic to draw or a picture

To draw pictures 90 degrees from each other.

  • The three common orthographic planes are: Top, Front, and Right Side

  • Orthographic Projections3 views of an object that are 90 degrees to each otherUsually the Top, Front, and Right Side views are used

  • To get Orthographic projections based on the top, front, and right side views, we use a special technique that allows us to see each view straight on.

  • Transparent Cube

  • If you place an object to be drawn inside of a transparent cube, you can then project the image of each side directly onto the face of the cube.

  • Inside the cube

  • When we unfold the cube

  • We typically only use 3 of the six views

    Top, Front, and Right Side

  • To visualize an object without the transparent cube, hold the object and look at it straight on from each view Top, Front, and Right Side. Then draw what you see.

  • Another concern is the problem of figuring out which line represents WHAT in the other views.

What follows is a way of determining how to do this

  • Each surface can be identified in each view
