Three dimensional unity:

• The church,

• The family

Review

• Last week we discussed “Unity in the Body”

• We will review as we go.

Text: 1 Corinthians 12: 3-12

•3. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

Text: 1 Corinthians 12:3-12

• 4. There are diversities of GIFTS, but the same Spirit.

• 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.

• 6 And there are diversities of ACTIVITIES , but it is the same God who works all in all.

Text: 1 Corinthians 12:3-12

• 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:

• 8 for to one is given the WORD of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,

Text: 1 Corinthians 12:3-12

• 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,

• 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

Text: 1 Corinthians 12:3-12

• 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

• 12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.

Three dimensional unity:

• The human

body,

• The church,

• The family

The human body

• Jeremiah 1:5

• "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."

Psalms 139:14

• I WILL give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.

Psalms 139:14

• The word ‘wonderfully’ means to be distinct or unique. this verse says that God made you special.

Genesis 1:27

• God created man in His own image, in THE IMAGE of God He created him; male and female He created them.

The Human Body Systems

Although viewed as whole, the human body is actually made up of ten different systems.

Each of these systems plays a vital part in the health and well being of the entire body.

1. Integumentary System

2. Skeletal System

3. Muscular System

4. Digestive System

5. Circulatory System

6. Respiratory System

7. Nervous System

8. Excretory System

9. Endocrine System

10. Reproductive System

Dynamics of human Development

From birth to death

• Development takes place in three essential areas.

• Physical,

• cognitive, and

• emotional-social.

• In other words, you develop when your body, mind, spirit, and social relationships change

Cognitive Development

• Involves changes that occur in mental activity, including

• changes in sensation, perception, memory, thought, reasoning, and language.

• Stages

• 0-2- Sensory-motor

• 2-7- preoperational

• 7-11- concrete-operational

• 11+ - formal operational

Emotional-social Development

• Includes changes in an individual’s personality, emotions, and relationships with others.

• Influence world view and conviction.

Factors affect individuals Development

• Institutions,

• society,

• family, and

• each person’s nature

• Influence personal convictions or world views

Emotional-social Development

Initiation Ceremonies and Religious Rites of Passage

• Some societies recognize adolescence or entry into adulthood through a special initiation ceremony—a rite of passage.

• At age 13 Jewish children become obligated to observe the holy commandments

Dramatic changes

• All of us undergo as we pass from the embryonic and fetal stages

• through infancy, childhood,

• adolescence, adulthood,

• and old age

• Some of our children are left to figure it out.

• or learn from any other source other than Home or Church.

Physical development

• Changes in weight and height; in the brain, heart, and other organ structures and processes; and in skeletal, muscular, and neurological features that affect motor skills

Puberty

• For instance, the physical changes that take place at adolescence, which together are called puberty.

• At puberty young people undergo revolutionary changes in growth and development. Adolescents catch up with adults in size and strength.

2. The church

• Unity does not imply uniformity. It does not

mean that all Christians WILL think alike or

perform identical ministries.

• It does imply a common purpose and

interdependence within the body of Christ.

John 17:21

• That they may all be one,

just as you, Father, are in

me, and I in you, that they

also may be in us, so that

the world may believe that

you have sent me.

To have unity in diversity

• we must:

• Commit ourselves to building each other up.

• Live by faith

• Keep our focus on what’s really important.

• Limit our liberty out of love for each other.

• Do not force your opinion on others.

• Recognize the value of every person.

To have unity in diversity

• If you’re a Christian,

part of your job

description is to build

up other Christians

• Romans 12:18

says “As far as it

depends on you, if it is

possible, live at peace

with all men.”

• If you’re going to

mature as a believer,

develop some biblical

convictions and be

lovingly honest about

them

3. The family:

• Play, pray plan and eat

together to preserve

unity.

One of the worst mistakes we

make in the family is

• “we fail to prepare our

children for their future”

• Psalm 127:4-

• As arrows are in the hand of

a mighty man; so are

children of the youth

Ephesians 6:1-4

• Children, obey YOUR parents in

the Lord, for this is right. “Honor

your father and mother” (this is

the first commandment with a

promise), “that it may go well

with you and that you may live

long in the land.”

Ephesians 5: 22-23

• Wives, Submit

yourselves unto YOUR

own husbands, as unto

the Lord.

• 23. For the husband is

the head of the wife,

even as Christ is the

head of the church:

(Ephesians 5:22, 1 Peter 3:1).

• God exhorts WOMEN to

voluntarily follow their

husband’s leadership.

• A woman is actively doing

this-- choosing to put herself

under leadership,

• A wife shows

submission unto her

husband when she

allows him to take

leadership in the

relationship. His

position as leader is

biblical

Ephesians 5: 25-31

• Husbands, love

your wives, even as

Christ also loved

the church, and

gave himself for it;

Deut. 6:6-9

• 6 “And these words which I command you today

shall be in your HEART.

• 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in

your house, when you walk by the way, when you

lie down, and when you rise up.

Deut. 6:6-9

• 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your

hand, and they shall be as frontlets between

your eyes.

• 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of

your house and on your gates.

How to grow in unity

• 1. Talk about the Gospel and Listen to the word

together, daily.

• 2. Aspire to go to bed at the same time.

• 3. Communicate with the entire family.

• 4. Spend time together that involves talking, rather

than WATCHING TV .

How to grow in unity

• 5. Talk about life, love, faith, money, family , death

and life style.

• 6. Speak of each other as “we.”

• 7. Help one another make time for alone time with

God.

How to grow in unity

• 8. Go on a date and talk about each other rather than

the kids.

• 9. Pray out loud with – and for – each other at

bedtime.

• 10. Always take INVENTORY of the distance

you’ve come, rather than recount the ways you differ.

Compare and contrast

the human body with

the spiritual body &

the family.

Compare and contrast

• One whole with several parts

and different functions.

• Need for team work we need

each other (we are

interdependent on each other)

Compare and contrast• Health is experienced through

healthy habits. (church, body

or family health)

• Anything healthy will

naturally grow & thrive

• There should be unity in

diversity

Questions:

• What can I do

to improve my

physical,

spiritual and

family

wellbeing?

Questions:

• What are the

weaknesses

and strengths

in my family,

Church life

and my body.

Questions:

• What do I

need to

improve &

what steps am

I willing to

take.

Let us Pray!
