Overview
Malalag is a 1st class municipality in the province of Davao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 119,334 people in 26,069 households. Malalag is stragetically located in the heart of Davao del Sur. Malalag is an argicultural center of Davao del Sur. Its main products are Banana, Cocunut and other fruits and vegetables. Malalag is also a fishing center of Davao del Sur. Many fish cages are lying in Malalag Bay. Malalag is also wealth in mining indusrty. Because of this, the Municipality of Malalag will soon to be a city in year 2016.
Preparing for fieldwork
Work Plan
Our work plan is to divide 200 meters to 10 stations measuring 20 meters each. At each station, we measure the direction of each station, slope direction, and the structures in our area.

Equipment and supplies
The following equipment and supplies were used in the course of our survey: 1.) Tape Measure
A tape measure or measuring tape is a flexible form of ruler. It consists of a ribbon of cloth, plastic, fiber glass, or metal strip with linear-measurement markings. It is a common measuring tool. Its flexibility allows for a measure of great length to be easily carried in pocket or toolkit and permits one to measure around curves or corners. Today it is ubiquitous, even appearing in miniature form as a keychain fob, or novelty item. Surveyors use tape measures in lengths of over 100 m (300+ ft).
Equipment and supplies
2.) Brunton CompassA Brunton pocket compass or Brunton
compass is a compass consist of a magnetized steel needle mounted on a pivot at the center of a graduated circle. The Brunton compass combines the main features of a sighting compass, prismatic compass, a hand level, and a clinometer.
Survey sites
The site of our survey is at the municipality of Malalag at the province of Davao del Sur with the coordinates of 6° 35′ 45.6″ N, 125° 23′ 56.4″ E. It is southwest of central Davao City and approximately 45 km distance travel by commercial buses and other land vehicle for three (3) hours through Davao City – Sta. Cruz – Digos City – Padada – Sulop National Road.

For stations 1 and 2, the bearings are N 52° E and N 53° E, respectively. Since from stations 1 to 2, the road is almost a straight line. Whereas on station 3, a curve begins to develop and it continues until station 4 (N 10° E).
Another curve forms from stations 5 to 10 with bearings of N 19° E, N 29° E, N 54° E, N 71° e, S 87° E, and S 78° E, respectively. The curve between these stations are opposite to the first curve.
We also measured the slope direction at each station. They are as follows:

Methodology
The methodology used in this fieldwork is to follow the following procedure:
1.) Measure 10 stations with 20 meters each to a total of 200 meters using a tape measure.2.) At each station, measure its bearing with the aid of a Brunton compass.3.) Measure any structures at each station (if available).4.)At each station, measure the slope direction.
Conclusion
Conclusion
Based upon the observations and further assessments, the group had derived the following conclusions:
1.) Bo. Baluyan, Malalag , Davao del Sur constitutes generally of interlingering of thrusted sedimentary rocks and porphyritic andesite intrusions.
2.) Since it has a previous history of rock and/ or debris slide, it has a great possibility that it will occur again.
3.) The steepness of the area can also contribute to the rock and/ or debris slide.
4.) Due to elevated topography of the region, resorts, restaurants, and other socially enriching businesses is of good economic market to be established in the area.
