Franklin Cares About.Austin ***
on our heritage .. nothing of value should be wasted. That's why we saved the Radkey House and remodeled it for use as our West Branch. And that's why we're currently restoring the Tip s House as our New South Congress loca tion.
Authentic restora tion involves a lot more than some new wiring and a few coats of paint . It takes extensive resea rch, careful planning, and a sizable investment in time and money . But it has its rewards. Like the medallion we received from the Tra vis
County Historical Survey Committee for our work with the Radkey House. And the response we get from other people who care as much about Austin as we do .
We apprec iate the encouragement. We' II continue to serve Austin through loca l invest ment and our commitment to the communit y.

GREG MORRIS, our distinguished guest star, gained national prominence with his starring role on the " Mission Impossible" series. His exceptional work in tha t series earn ed him thr ee Emmy nom ination s and the respect of his acting peers . After leaving Mission Imp ossible in 1972, Morr is went to the Fa r East to spend eight weeks in and arou nd Bangkok, Thailand, filming "Gold." The 1973-74 season found Morris
lmuch in demand for guest:starring roles. He · found himself playing an escaped convict with
Mike Connors on "Mannix," a cop and leader of a cult of Satan worshippers in "The Snoop Sisters," married to a woman whose dead husband returns from Vietnam in a segment of "Love Story," and a downed test pilot to be rescued by Lee Majors in "The Six Million Dollar Man." In February 1974, Mor ris turned down a guest role on "Cannon" to attend the 14th Internati onal Television Festival of Monte Carlo as th e U.S. juro r.
Before going into acting, Morris wante d to be a pro fessional basketball player . When his bask etball coach at the University of Iowa was killed , Morr is gave up this goal and began looking for anoth er career. Afte r leaving Iowa in 1960, Morris went to Seattle and took a job in a lumber camp. The next year was spent waiting tables and serving as a wine steward while doubling as an actor with a little theatre group and starting his · own Saturday afternoon drama workshop. In 1961, he starred in "A Raisin in the Sun," in Seattle and Long Beach, California. After moving to California and appearing in numerous plays there, he received his first television assignment in "Ben Casey." This led to other television work and then the offer to play Barney Collier in Mission Impossible.
We welcome Greg Morris to Mary Moody Northen stage.
EDWARD MANGUM, Director of Theatre at St. Edward's University, has founded three theatres during his almost forty years in the profession, the Mary Moody Northen Theatre being his third. The director worked closely with San Antonio architect Alvin Julian in the planning, concept and design of the Northen Theatre, borrowing much from the now famous Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., which Mangum founded in 1950 and for which he drew the original design. Now finishing his tenth year at St. Edward's, he helped establish the theatre major here which has grown from fewer than twenty students four years ago to its current one hundred ten. The theatre program at St. Edward's is the only one of its kind in the country in which
major stars of film, television and stage appear in every major production. Mangum directed "Caligula" with Leonard Nimoy, "The Sudden and
Accidental Re-education of Horse Johnson'' with Bill Macy and Samantha Harper, "The Time of Your Life" with John Saxon, "The Rainmaker" with Peter Breck and other shows at St. Edward's with Frank Sutton, William Shatner, Mercedes Mccambridge, Jackie Coogan, Lyle Talbot, Carl Betz, Johnathan Harris and Pernell Roberts, with whom he joined Actors Equity in 1951 when both were at the Arena Stage. Among the over three hundred plays he has produced, he has also directed Linda Darnell, Pat O'Brien, Gary Collins, George Grizzard, Roy Poole, John Beal, Kam Fong, John Carradine and Zelda Fichandler, the present producing director of Arena stage, who succeeded Mangum as head of that theatre when he left at the end of two years to head a major theatre in Honolulu, Hawaii.
A writer of articles for many theatre publications, and a man singled out for his work by the authors of at least two recent volumes on the history of the American theatre, he holds a master's degree from The Catholic University of America where he studed under Walter Kerr, drama critic of ''The New York Times," the Reverend Gilbert V. Hartke, O.P., founder of the theatre program at Catholic University, and Alan Schneider, famous director of the plays of Edward Albee. For four years, he was a consultant with the American National Theatre and Academy in New York City, from which office he helped establish the first U.S. Overseas Cultural Exchange Program throughout the Far and Middle East. He has directed in the state theatres of Germany and Turkey, lectured in India and Japan, and has launched the careers of many current actors, playwrights and theatre technicians in films, television and on the stage throughout America.

The Theatre Arts Program -A Unique Experience
St. Edward's is one of the few univers1t1es in the United Stated which offers students professional theatre on campus with top professional actors from television, stage and film.
No other university in the country offers its students the professional theatre program St. Edward's University does, and the coming season will add even more luster to the program.
In addition to its summer offerings at the Mary Moody Northen Theatre which will this -season consist of three major shows with three major stars -St. Edward's will be affiliat ed with the Hill Country Arts Foundation in Ingram , ~Texas, near Kerrville, and will be joining the 16-year-old outdoor Poi nt Theatre on the Guadalupe River in a full season of four plays including two musical productions.
During the past three years, St. Edward's students majoring in Theatre Arts have had an opportunity to work with guest stars such as Mercedes Mccam bridge , John Saxon, Pat O'B rien, Pernell Roberts, William Shatner , Leonard Nimoy, Stefanie Powers. Julie Adams, Carl Betz, Peter Breck, Jackie Coogan, Frank Sutton, Bill Macy, Sal Mineo, Ed Nelson and Eileen Heckart.
The Theatre Arts teaching staff at St. Edward's feels this sort of exposure to professionals offers invaluable learnil_!g experience for students. The staff works on the premise that theatre departments can no longer afford to graduate amateurs. St. Edward's is in the forefront of training professionals and it expects to stay there.
Anyone interested in further information about the program should contact the Director of Admissions, St. Edward's University, 3001 S. Congress, Austin, Texas.
