ONGAONGA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER – 23RD OCTOBER 2019 - TERM 4 - WEEK 2 Greetings to the Ongaonga School Community. Ngā Mihi nui ki a Koutou. Value of the Week Empathy continues to be the school value we are focusing on. I challenged the students to undertake a random act of kindness this week to show kindness and understanding to others. Making others feel good about themselves, brings joy and “turns their frown upside down” (direct quote from Ongaonga student, Maggie J). It also makes the ‘giver’ feel great! Community Consultation: Health Curriculum Thank you to the parents who attended the Health curriculum consultation last Thursday evening. We were a small group but the discussion was invaluable. It was an important meeting, helping us to plan the content we deliver in the Health curriculum. A huge thank you too, to Mrs Beamish and Miss McIlroy for showcasing our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) programme. The attendees were able to ask questions and gained an in-depth knowledge into our programme. AG Day Remember AG day is next week on Friday 1 st November. We will have our traditional lamb, calf, horse and goat displays, agricultural-based modules as well as an Ag race-off. Please note that any calves must be registered and Nait tagged. Kelly Bibby has arranged for the calves to be scanned in and out of school on the day. This year we will also be running a new competition called ‘Dad Takes the Cake’ where Dads bake and decorate a cake, bring it in for judging and we auction each cake for fundraising. I hope some budding chefs out there will take up the challenge! Note the change in lunch menu—American Hotdogs will now be on sale. Order forms will be coming home today. The program will be: 9.00 – 9.15 am Animals arrive at school 9.15 - 10.00 am Judging of animals 10.30 – 11.00 am Final Awards Presented Judging and Auction of ‘Dads’ Cakes’ 11.00 – 11.30 am MORNING TEA 11.30am - 12.30 pm AG Kids Whole School & Parents Race-Off 12.30–1.30 pm BBQ LUNCH (American Hotdogs $2) 1.30 – 3.00 pm Class Ag activities / modules Sunhats It is really important for all students to wear navy blue bucket or wide- brimmed sunhats during Term 4. Some students are not wearing the correct hats. You can order one from the school office. Our harsh Hawke’s Bay sun is very damaging and we want to protect our children. 2020 New Entrants or Enrolments As I mentioned last week, I am currently making a list or pre-schoolers or likely enrolments during the 2020 school year to help predict the future organisation for Ongaonga School. If you have pre-schoolers, or know of some in our community, I would really appreciate if you could let the office know names and birthdates.
