We are keen to have a core group of parents willing to be trained to provide support with a key program in place to support our young students’ learning. Phonological Awareness (PA) is the awareness of what sounds are and how they come together to make words. It is an important pre- reading and writing skill. Skills include the ability to rhyme, segment words into syllables and blend sounds together. The school has committed to running a PA program most mornings with our Pre Primary students. All Education Assistants work with class teachers so that small groups can progress at their respective levels through a sequence of activities to develop PA skills. Being able to have the students work in small groups is critical to the program. To this end, we are keen to train any parents who may be able to commit to 1, 2, 3 or even 4 mornings a week for the first half hour of the day to work with a small group of students in the PA program. Dependent on response, we will run the training session late this term or early Term 4 with a view to beginning in 2018. Please let Glenise or Deb in the front office know if you are interested in finding out more – attending the training session does not obligate you to be part of the PA program, as it is also an opportunity for you to learn a little more about early reading and writing! Mr Hodgson

An overcast and ominous morning dawned over the school. The children were excited

with anticipation. The running of our Faction Cross Country Carnival was scheduled to

begin at 8.50am. Little spits of rain were felt at the start of the first race and as

per usual a rain shower hit. This seemed to be the pattern for the rest of the carnival.

The track was becoming a quagmire at the bottom of Black Boy Hill, this added to the

excitement of completing the course.

The Year 3 and 4 students run a course of 1 kilometre in distance. The Year 5 and 6

students compete over a distance of 1.5 kilometres.

Well done to all participants. Every runner earned their Faction 1 point. The first 4
