PRINCIPAL’S CORNER We are still living in the glow of the empty tomb! We continue to celebrate what God did for us in the fact that He raised His Son from the dead that we might live eternally with Him. Let us not forget this as life begins a fast pace of activities towards the end of school. On Saturday, we welcome another class of kindergartners to the school with our Kindergarten welcome day. The same Saturday Green Park hosts the Green Park relays for the 5-8th grade Lutheran grade schools. Our National Junior Honor Society students will be working the LESA auction. The following Saturday, April 29, we host our first 5K run, The Viking March at Cliff Cave Park. Then May follows shortly with Faith Family Field Day, School Picnic and 8th grade graduation. VIKING MARCH 5K AND ONE MILE FUN RUN QUICKLY APPROACHING Sign-ups continue for our first Viking March 5K & 1M Fun Run at Cliff Cave Park on Saturday, April 29. Cost is $35 to participate in the 5K and $20 to participate in the one mile Fun Run. The 5K begins at 9:00am and the Fun Run begins at 9:45am. Attendance prizes will be given out after the Fun Run. FAITH FAMILY FIELD DAY 2017 - FRIDAY, MAY 5 Faith Family Field Day is the perfect spring celebration as we cap off another great year and recognize our 8th grade Faith Family Leaders. The day is spent in friendly competition complete with a can castle competition, games and snacks. A reminder that school will dismiss at 12:00pm. No after school care. Parent volunteers will be needed on that day. An email was sent home this week with a link to sign up. We hope you can join us on this fun day!

CANNED FOOD DRIVE: FEED MY PEOPLE Field Day tradition begins with a can castle pyramid competition. Proceeds will go to our friends at Feed My People. Please be sure to send in your canned goods on field day. No glass items, please.

CAN PULL-TAB CONTEST Which classroom will collect the most can pull-tabs for the Ronald McDonald House? Our contest began Tuesday, April 18 and will end Friday, May 5. All pull-tabs should be brought in large Ziploc bags and turned in to your homeroom teacher. The class collecting the most pull tabs will win a special treat!

6th-8th GRADE-COMBINED BAND REHEARSAL & CONCERT REMINDER Rehearsal Information: Tuesday, April 25, 8:30-10:45am at Lutheran South. Band students should bring their own music stand to the rehearsal (labeled with their name). Parents, please take your band student directly to LHSS by 8:30am (may arrive as early as 7:30am). Please enter at the main entrance doors. Students will return to Green Park together by bus around 11:15am. Concert Information: Tuesday, April 25, 7:30pm at Lutheran South. Students meet at 7:00pm for warm-up and tune-up. Concert dress attire is white (or light) colored shirt and black (or dark) slacks or skirt (and nice shoes!). Music stands are not needed for the concert.

GREEN PARK SUNDAY AT GETHSEMANE—SUNDAY, APRIL 23 This Sunday, April 23, is Green Park Sunday at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Please join us for the 9:00 service and stay for a luncheon afterwards. The choir from grades 1-3, under the direction of Mrs. Prange and Mrs. Sanft, will be singing. The choir kids and their parents are especially encouraged to stay afterwards for the luncheon.

5th AND 6th GRADE PRESENT “RUMPLESTILTSKIN—PRIVATE EYE” In this witty play fairytale spoof, Fairytale Land has been hit by a crime wave. The Three Bears’ home was broken into. The Three Little Pigs’ homes were destroyed. Now Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother is missing. The crimes seem unrelated, at least if you listen to those shady Grimm brothers. But could an evil mastermind be behind them all? Something punny is going on! Only hard-boiled detective Rumpelstiltskin and his wise-cracking partner Ugly Duckling can solve this wacky case. Full of hilarious roles and snappy one-liners, this private eye parody is pure gold! The play will be performed next Friday, April 28, at 1:30 and 7:00pm in the gymnasium. Come join us in the fun!

CHAPEL OFFERINGS TO BENEFIT FEED MY PEOPLE Our chapel offerings for the rest of the year will be going to Feed My People. Feed My People was started in 1982 as a way to help people in the South County area needing food. Today, Feed My People has over 25 programs, including a Thrift Store at each location as primarily a service to their clients, but also open to the public. Today, this organization serves 16 different zip codes in the St. Louis area and helps over 80,000 people each year. Feed My People is supported by donations from individuals, schools, churches, businesses, foundations and community groups. Please help us support their service to our community!

LUTHERAN SOUTH SPRING BAND AND CHOIR CONCERTS The music department at Lutheran High School South announces its annual spring band concerts. This is a great opportunity to hear terrific music performed by some excellent young musicians. All Lutheran South band alumni and former students of Mr. and Mrs. Miller are especially invited. This will be your last chance to see Mr. and Mrs. Miller conduct before their retirement at the end of this school year.

Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. is the annual Jazz Band Concert featuring the high school Jazz Band. This popular concert will be held in the Kuhlmann Center at Lutheran South where the audience members are seated informally around tables. Please bring your own snacks and beverages and relax in a nightclub setting as you listen to some great jazz.

Friday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. is the annual Spring Band Concert. This event features Lutheran South’s well-known Wind Symphony in addition to the high school Concert Band. Also included will be the Junior Winds, a select band of the best Lutheran elementary school band members in the area. This concert will be held in the Concordia Center at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood.

Mark your May calendar for the Spring Choir Concert. All four LHSS Choirs will perform on Sunday evening, May 14, at 7:30 pm in the Kuhlmann Center at the school on Tesson Ferry Road. Highlights of the evening will be selections by state-level singers, the varsity Lancer Singers, and the middle school Junior Singers. The Lancer Singers include former Green Park students Lindsay Miller, Anna Renner, Jennifer Stroups, Abby Welker, and Grace Wilkinson. An offering will be received, and a cookie reception will follow the concert.

SCRIP NEWS The next (and final) Scrip Order will be entered on Friday, May 5, with a delivery date of Friday, May 12.

Please remember, Dierbergs and Shop ‘n Save gift cards are available for purchase in the school office. The cards can be purchased in denominations of $25 or $100. They earn profits of 5%, and of those profits, 75% goes to you. So, for instance, if you purchase $100 worth of cards, you earn $3.75. That means that for every $1,000 you make in purchases, you earn $37.50 in Scrip credits! Those Scrip credits can then be used for any of your TADS invoices.

LUTHERAN DAY AT BUSCH STADIUM Baseball fever is in the air! Join us for the 2017 Lutheran Day at Busch Stadium on Sunday, April 30, for the 1:15pm game against the Cincinnati Reds. Following the Cardinals game, the Lutheran High School North and Lutheran High School South Varsity Baseball teams will play on the field. Stay and cheer on the teams! The Lutheran High School Association is offering discounted tickets. They are $30 each and are available on a first come/first served basis. Mrs. Pfund will have a limited number of tickets available in the school office. See her directly if you would like to purchase some.
