• Lever- is a rigid bar that rotates around a fixed point called the fulcrum.

• Pulley-consists of a grooved wheel that turns freely in a frame called a block.

• Wheel and axle- is a simple machine consisting of a large wheel rigidly secured to a smaller wheel or shaft, called an axle.

• Screw- is also a modified version of the inclined plane.• Incline plane- plane is an even sloping surface. The inclined plane

makes it easier to move a weight from a lower to higher elevation.• Wedge- is a modification of the inclined plane. Wedges are used as

either separating or holding devices.

• when the ugly little duckling wobbled himself into the pond; he found himself stuck in a whirl pool going in circles under water until he popped out of the bottom.

Page 9: The scientific Duckling

• “mommy mommy” ran the little duckling out of the pond “ I got stuck in the water”. Its only water” teased his duckling siblings. The mother duck smiled and said “it’s okay ugly duckling, go out to play”

Page 10: The scientific Duckling

• so the little duck ran to a little bank and thought nobody loves me, nobody likes me even mommy called me ugly…. He cried and sniffle but he knew that was going to change a thing.

• the little duck ran far far away from home. When he came upon a little house, he ran toward the door on the first strike of lighting but he only ran into the door.

Page 13: The scientific Duckling

• he bounces right off the door with a thud. “Ouch!” he screeched. He began to peck his beak through the wood separating it. He thought that he’ll never go through until the door flew right open.

• “aww who is this ugly duckling let me take inside to clean you” a little old lady said. She picked him up and washed him off…..

Page 16: The scientific Duckling

• she than turn on the oven and said to her starving cat “we got lucky today”. The ugly little duckling sniffles…. “They think I’m stupid he thought….. Well I’ll show them.

Page 17: The scientific Duckling

• : he got a can of jam and rolled near where the cat is sleeping, than he got a flat piece of wood from the fire place and set it under the kitty. Finally, he got up on the counter and jumped on the other side of the plank……

Page 18: The scientific Duckling
Page 19: The scientific Duckling

• And up went the kitty…..“aahhh” yelled the cat

Page 20: The scientific Duckling

• The ugly little duckling had his laughs and knew it was time to leave……

Page 21: The scientific Duckling

• It was rainy hard as the ugly little duckling slid down a plank- leaning against the window……..

Page 22: The scientific Duckling
Page 23: The scientific Duckling

• He ran with his little wobbling legs….. And not seeing what was in front of him he rolled down a steep hill, like a watermelon and ended up in a large puddle. Too weak to get up he laid there motionless.

Page 24: The scientific Duckling

• “Aaawww, poor little buddy so filthy, let’s get you all cleaned up” the farmer whispered in his ear.

Page 25: The scientific Duckling

• He woke up in a basket way off the ground….. wow he thought to himself, how do I suppose to get down he thought. He saw a string attach to a wheel that leads to the ground. Well there’s away down he smiled….

Page 26: The scientific Duckling
Page 27: The scientific Duckling

• He climbed over the basket and swung his tiny body over to the string and when he went down a bell went up… scaring the life out of him

Page 28: The scientific Duckling

• PLOP!!! “Ouch” yelped the Duckling. The bell was still ringing or was it his head he thought. At the same time the farmer came in. “oh poor little thing, I can see you cannot fly yet but I’ll take care of you until you can’ he smiled

Page 29: The scientific Duckling

• And he did day by day went by and the ugly little duckling became healthier and stronger and learning more words: such as lever, or pulley or maybe even wheel and axle. But every word he heard he took and learn the meaning…….

Page 30: The scientific Duckling
Page 31: The scientific Duckling

• Until one day he’ll turn into a smart ugly duckling……. And soon the farmer took him out and release him by the pond he once started up at…. “be good” the farmer chuckled admiring his beauty

Page 32: The scientific Duckling

• Once he again he stared into the pond to look at the reflection he made….. he couldn’t believe his eyes: he looked so gorgeous and when he looked up he saw more gorgeous creatures…. “Hey! What are you? He asked. “Swans!!!! They all shouted, “ just like you.” Then he looked down into the pond again. “No” he said softly. “No?” one questioned…..

Page 33: The scientific Duckling

• “No” he repeated, “ I’m a scientific little duckling” he smiled
