PRIEST: Glory to Thee our God, glory to Thee.

O Heavenly King, O Comforter, the Spirit of

truth, Who art in all places and fillest all things;

Treasury of good things and giver of life: Come

and dwell in us and cleanse us from every stain,

and save our souls, O good One.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the

All holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, cleanse

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy

name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on

earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily

bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive

those who trespass against us. And lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

PRIEST: For Thine is the kingdom, and the

power, and the glory: of the Father, and of the

Son, and of the Holy Spirit; both now and ever,

Psalm 50

READER: Have mercy upon me, O God, according

to Thy great mercy: according to the multitude of Thy

tender mercies blot out mine iniquity. Wash me

thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from

my sin. For I acknowledge mine iniquity: and my sin

is ever before me. Against Thee only have I sinned,

and done evil in Thy sight: that Thou mightest be

justified in Thy words, and prevail when Thou art

judged. For behold I was shapen in iniquity: and in

sin did my other conceive me. For behold, Thou hast

loved truth: the unclear and hidden things of Thy

wisdom Thou hast made clear to me. Thou shalt

sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be whiter than

. ُمحاَكَمتِكَ في َوتَْغلِبَ أْقوالِكَ في تَصُدقَ لَِكي َصنَْعُت،

قَدْ ألَنَّكَ . أُّمي َولََدْتني َوبِالَخطايا بي، ُحبِلَ بِاآلثامِ هاَءنذا

، أَْحبَْبتَ ِحْكَمتِكَ َغواِمضَ لي َوأَْوَضْحتَ الَحقَّ

وفى تَْنَضُحني. َوَمْستُوراتِها فَأَْبيَضُّ تَْغِسلُني فَأَْطهُُر، بِالزُّ

فَتَْبتَِهجُ َوُسروراً، بَْهَجةً تُْسِمُعني. الثَّْلجِ ِمنَ أَْكثَرَ

ليلَةُ ِعظامي ُكلَّ َواْمحُ َخطاياَي، َعنْ َوْجهَكَ إِْصِرفْ . الذَّ

دْ ُمْستَقيماً َوروحاً هللا، يا فِيَّ اْخلُقْ نَقِيّاً قَلباً . َمآثِمي في َجد

القُدُّوسُ َوُروُحكَ َوْجِهَك، أَمامِ ِمنْ تَْطَرْحني ال. أْحشائي

renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away

from Thy presence: and take not Thy Holy Spirit from

me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation: and

steady me with a guiding spirit. Then will I teach

transgressors Thy ways: and the impious shall be

converted unto thee. Deliver me from blood-

guiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my

tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness. O Lord,

open Thou my lips: and my mouth shall declare Thy

praise. For had Thou desired sacrifice, I would have

given it thee: Thou delightest not in burnt offerings.

Sacrifices to God are a contrite spirit: a contrite and

humble heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise. Do

good, O Lord, in Thy goodwill unto Zion: that the

walls of Jerusalem may be built up. Then shalt Thou

be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, with

burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings: then shall

they offer bullocks upon Thine altar.

ِرئَاسي َوبِروح َخالِصكَ بَْهَجةَ إِْمنَْحني. ِمنّي تَْنِزْعهُ ال

. يَْرِجعون إِلَْيكَ َوالَكفََرةُ طُُرقََك، األَثََمةَ فَأَُعل مَ . اْعُضْدني

ماءِ ِمنَ أَْنقِْذني لِساني فَيَْبتَِهجَ َخالصي، إلهَ هللاُ يا الد

، اْفتَحْ َربُّ يا. ْدلِكَ بِعَ ألَنَّكَ . بِتَْسبَِحتِك فَمي فَيَُخب رَ َشفَتَيَّ

تَُسرُّ ال لَِكنَّكَ أُْعطي، اآلنَ لَُكْنتُ الذَّبيَحةَ، آثَْرتَ لَو

ِ فَالذَّبيَحةُ . بِالُمْحَرقات عُ القَلبُ ُمْنَسـِحٌق، روحٌ ِِلّ الُمتََخش

تِكَ َربُّ يا أَْصلِحْ . هللا يَْرُذلُهُ ال َوالُمتَواِضعُ بَِمَسرَّ

الَعْدلِ بَِذبيَحةِ تَُسرُّ حينَئِذ . أوْرَشليم أْسوارُ َوْلتُْبنَ ِصْهيَونَ

بونَ حينَئِذ . َوُمْحَرقات قُْرباناً .الُعُجول َمْذبَِحكَ على يُقَر

The Canon (Plagal 2nd

Tone), First Ode - السادسالقانون باللحن - األودية األولى

Heirmos: The children of those who were saved

hid under ground the God who made the

persecuting giant of old to disappear in the waves

of the sea. As for us, however, let us praise the

Lord as did the youths, for in glory hath He been

glorified.

تَْحتَ أَْخفَوا قَدْ الَغَرق، ِمنَ نََجوا الَِّذينَ أَْوالدَ إِن : رمسإ

الماِردَ البَْحرِ أَْمواجِ فِي قَِديماً أَْغَرقَ الَّذي اإللهَ الثَّرى،

بَّ فَْلنَُسب حِ نَْحنُ َوأَّما الُمْضطَِهد، بِالَمْجدِ ألَنَّهُ َكالفِْتيَِة، الرَّ

دَ قَدْ .تََمجَّ

Glory to Thee our God, glory to Thee. O Lord

my God, I shall praise Thy burial with funeral

dirges, and indite unto Thee songs of praise, O

Thou through Whose burial the entrance of life

hath opened for me; and Who by death caused

death and hades to die.

بُّ أَيُّها .لَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ ا إِن ي إِلهي، الرَّ َمنْ يا التَّْسبِيح، نَشائِدَ لَكَ َوأَْنظُمُ بَِمراث ، َدْفنَكَ أَُسب حُ

الَموتَ أَماتَ َوبَِمْوتِهِ الَحياة، َمداِخلَ لِي فَتَحَ بَِدْفنِهِ

.َوالَجِحيم


Holy Spirit. Verily, the super-terrestrial, and

those below the earth, beholding Thee on Thy

throne on high and in the grave below were

amazed, trembling at Thy death; for Thou, O

Element of life, wast seen to be dead in a manner

transcending the mind.

فَْوقَ الَِّذينَ إِنَّ .الَمْجُد لآِلِب واإلْبِن والّروِح القُُدس على الَعالءِ في َرأَْوكَ لَّما الثَّرى، تَْحتَ َوالَِّذينَ العالَمِ

َمْوتِك، ِمنْ ُمْرتَِعِدينَ بُِهتُوا أَْسفَل، القَْبرِ َوفي الَعْرشِ

.الَعقل تَفُوقُ بِحال َمْيتاً ُشْوِهْدتَ الَحياة، ُعْنُصرَ يا ألَنَّكَ

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages.

Amen. To the depths of the earth Thou descendest

to fill all with Thy glory; for my person that is in

Adam was not hidden from Thee; and when Thou

wast buried Thou didst renew me, who was

corrupt, O Lover of mankind.

إِنَّكَ .آمين .اآلن وكل أواٍن وإلى َدْهِر الداهرينَ ِمنْ الُكلَّ تَْملَ لَِكي األَْرِض، أَْعماقِ إِلى اْنَحَدْرتَ

َولَّما َعْنَك، يَْختَفِ لَمْ آَدمَ في الَِّذي أُْقنُوِميَ ألَنَّ َمْجِدَك،

دتَنِي ُدفِْنتَ .البََشر الُمِحبُّ أَيُّها الُمْنفَِسد، أَنا َجدَّ

Katavasia: The children of those who were saved

Third Ode - األودية الثالثة

Heirmos: Verily creation, having beheld Thee

suspended on Golgotha, O Thou Who didst

suspend the whole earth on the waters without

hinges, was overtaken with great surprise, crying

aloud: There is none holy save Thee, O Lord.

َرأَْتكَ لَّما َعِظيَمة، َدْهَشةٌ اْشتََملَْتها الَخلِيقَةَ إِنَّ : إرمس

الِمياهِ َعلى ُكلَّها األَْرضَ َعلَّقَ نْ مَ يا ُمَعلَّقاً، الُجْلُجلَةِ في

يا ِسواكَ قُدُّوسٌ لَيسَ : هاتَفَةً َوَصَرَختْ أَداة ، َغيرِ ِمنْ

.َربّ

Glory to Thee our God, glory to Thee. Thou

hast revealed, O Master, numerous sights as signs

of Thy Burial. But now Thou hast revealed Thy

hidden things as God and Man to those who are in

hades also, who shouted, saying: There is none

holy save Thee, O Lord.

ي ُد، أَيُّها .الَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ بََدتْ قَدْ السَّ أَْعلَْنتَ فَقَدْ اآلنَ َوأَّما َدْفنَِك، إِلى ُمِشيرةٌ َكثِيَرةٌ َعالماتٌ

، َكإِله َخفِيّاتِكَ فََصَرُخوا الَجِحيِم، في لِلَِّذينَ َحتّى َوإِنسان

.َربّ يا ِسواكَ قُدُّوسٌ لَيسَ : هاتِفِين


Holy Spirit. Thou hast stretched forth Thy hands,

O Savior, and gathered the things dispersed of old;

and by Thy burial in the linen and the grave, Thou

hast loosed the captives, who shout: There is none

holy save Thee, O Lord.

يا َكفَّيكَ بََسْطتَ قَدْ .المجُد لآلِب واإلبِن والروِح القُُدسقاتِ فََجَمْعتَ ُمَخل ص، َوُدِرْجتَ القَِديم، ُمْنذُ الُمتَفَر

الُمْعتَقَلِينَ فََحلَْلتَ القَبِر، في َواْضَطَجْعتَ بِالسَّبانِي،

.َربّ يا ِسواكَ قُدُّوسٌ لَيسَ : لِيَْهتِفُوا


Amen. A grave and seals contained Thee by Thy

will, O uncontainable One; for by deeds, O Lover

of mankind, Thou hast made Thy power known by

a divine act to those who sing: There is none holy

save Thee, O Lord.

اْحتَوى قَدِ .آمين .اآلن وكل أواٍن وإلى دهِر الداهرينَ ، ُذو قَْبرٌ َعلَيكَ الَموُسوع، الَغيرُ أَيُّها بِاْختِياِركَ ُختُوم

تَك، أَْعلَْنتَ بِاألَْفعالِ البََشر، ُمِحبَّ يا فَإِنَّكَ إِلِهي بَِعَمل قُوَّ

.َربّ يا ِسواكَ قُدُّوسٌ لَيسَ : لِلُمَرت لِين

Katavasia: Verily creation, having beheld Thee

Fourth Ode - االودية الرابعة

Heirmos: Verily Habakkuk, O Good One, foresaw

Thy Divine condescension even to the Cross and

was dazzled as he cried: Thou abolished the

prestige of the mighty when Thou didst appear in

Hades, since Thou art Almighty.

تَواُضَعكَ فَشاهَدَ َسبَقَ َحبَقُوقَ إِنَّ الّصالُِح، أَيُّها: إرمس

لِيب، َحتّى اإِللـِهّي، َحَسْمتَ لَقَدْ : صاِرخاً فَاْنَذهَلَ الصَّ

ةَ َظهَْرتَ ُمذْ َشيء، ُكل على قاِدرٌ أَنَّكَ بِما األَْقِوياء، ِعزَّ

. الَجِحيم فِي لِلَِّذينَ


hast blessed, O Savior, this seventh day, which

Thou hadst blessed at the beginning with rest from

work; for Thou hast brought out everything,

renewing it and restoring it to its former state, thus

keeping the Sabbath.

اليَْومَ هذا باَرْكتَ إِنَّكَ .الَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ ْستَهُ الّسابع، َوفِيهِ الَعَمل، ِمنَ بِالّراَحةِ البَْدِء، ُمْنذُ َوقَدَّ

، ُكلَّ أَْتَمْمتَ ْدتَهُ، فَلِهذا َشيء اْعتِباِرهِ إِلى َوأََعْدتَهُ َجدَّ

.ُمَخل ص يا السَّْبتَ َحفِْظتَ ُمذْ القَِديم،


Holy Spirit. When, by the strength that nothing

can subdue, Thou hadst conquered, O Word, Thy

soul and flesh were parted; whereon, Thy soul did

break apart all the heavy chains both of death and

hades by Thine exceeding might.

ةِ نَْفَسكَ إِنَّ الَمْجُد لآلِب واإلبِن والروِح القُُدس: بِقُوَّْقتَ فَمَ األَْضَعف، الَجَسدَ َغلَبَتِ قَدْ األَْفضَل، َكْونِها زَّ

تِكَ ِكلَْيِهما، َوالَموتِ الَجِحيمِ قُيُودَ .الَكلِمة أَيُّها بِِعزَّ


Amen. Hades in welcoming Thee, O Word,

murmured at beholding a deified Man marked

with wounds, Who is yet Almighty. Wherefore, at

that terrible sight it shouted in fear.

أَيُّها .آمين .اآلن وكل أواٍن وإلى دهِر الداهرينَ لُِمشاهََدتِها تََمْرَمَرْت، اْستَْقبَلَْتكَ لَّما الَجِحيمَ إِنَّ الَكلِمةُ،

ُكل َعلى القاِدرُ أَنَّهُ َمعَ بِالُكلُوم، يُْوَسمُ ُمتَأَل هاً، إِْنساناً

وَرةِ هِذهِ فَِمنْ َشيء، ِهيبَةِ الصُّ .ُمْرتاعةً صاَحتْ الرَّ

Katavasia: Verily Habakkuk, O Good One,

foresaw Thy Divine condescension even to the

Cross and was dazzled as he cried: Thou

abolished the prestige of the mighty when Thou

didst appear in Hades, since Thou art Almighty.

فَشاهَدَ َسبَقَ َحبَقُوقَ إِنَّ الّصالُِح، أَيُّها: كطافاسيةلِيب، َحتّى اإِللـِهّي، تَواُضَعكَ لَقَدْ : صاِرخاً فَاْنَذهَلَ الصَّ

ةَ َحَسْمتَ ُمذْ َشيء، ُكل على قاِدرٌ أَنَّكَ بِما األَْقِوياء، ِعزَّ

. الَجِحيم فِي لِلَِّذينَ ظَهَْرتَ

Fifth Ode - االودية الخامسة

Heirmos: When Isaiah, O Christ, saw the light

that setteth not, the light of Thy Divine

appearance coming to us in pity, He rose up early,

crying: The dead shall rise, and they who are in

the tombs shall awake, and all those on earth shall

rejoice.

ال الَّذي النُّورَ أَْبَصرَ لَّما إَِشْعيا إِنَّ الَمِسيحُ أَيُّها: إرمس

لَجَ لَنا، الباِدي اإِللِهي ظُهُوِركَ نُورَ يَْغُرب، اللَّيلِ ِمنَ ادَّ

َسيَْنهَُضون، القُبُورِ فِي َوالَِّذينَ َسيَقُوُمون، الَموتى: هاتِفاً

.َسيَْبتَِهُجون األَْرضِ فِي الَِّذينَ َوَجِميعُ

Glory to Thee our God, glory to Thee. When

Thou becamest earthly, O Creator, Thou didst

renew those who are earthly. And the linen and

the grave explained Thy hidden mystery, O Word;

for the honorable Joseph, of sound belief, fulfilled

Thy Father’s plan, through Whom Thou hast

renewed me by the might of His greatness.

ِصْرتَ لَّما الخالِقُ أَيُّها .الَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ كَ أَْعلَنا َوالقَْبرُ َوالسَّبانِي التُّرابِي يَن، َجدَّْدتَ تُرابِيّاً ِسرَّ

ْأيِ ذا الُمتَّقِيَ يُوُسفُ ألَنَّ الَكلِمة، أَيُّها الَخفِيَّ الصائِب، الرَّ

.َعظََمتِه بَِجبَُروتِ بِكَ َجدََّدنِي الَّذي والِِدكَ قَْصدَ َرَسمَ


Holy Spirit. Thou hast transported the dead by

death, and the corrupt by burial; for as becometh

God Thou hast made the body which Thou didst

create incorrupt and deathless; for Thy body, O

Master, did not see corruption, and Thy soul in a

strange manner was not left in hades.

المائِتَ أَْحيَيْتَ إِنَّكَ .القُُدسالَمْجُد لآلِب واإلبِن والروِح الَجَسدَ َصيَّْرتَ بِاِل، يَلِيقُ َكما ألَنَّكَ بِالدَّفِن، َوالفاِسدَ بِالَموتِ

يَرَ لَمْ َجَسَدكَ ألَنَّ مائت، َوَغيرَ الفَسادِ ُمْمتَنِعَ أََخْذتَهُ الَِّذي

.الَجِحيم في تُتَْركْ لَمْ َغرِيبَة بِحالة َونَفَْسكَ السَّي د، أَيُّها فَساداً


Amen. Thou didst come from a Virgin who knew

no travail. Thy side, O my Creator, was pierced

with a spear, by which Thou didst accomplish the

refashioning of Eve, having Thyself become

Adam. In ways surpassing nature, Thou didst fall

into a sleep that renewed nature, raising our life

from sleep and corruption; for Thou art Almighty.

آدماً، ِصْرتَ لَّما َحّواءَ إِعاَدةَ ِمْنهُ فََصنَْعتَ خالِقِي،

الطَّبِيعةَ، يَفُوقُ بِما لِلطَّبِيعةِ ُمْحيِياً ُرقاداً َوَرقَْدتَ

قادِ ِمنَ الَحياةَ َوأَْنهَْضتَ َعلى قاِدرٌ أَنَّكَ بِما َوالفَساد، الرُّ

Katavasia: When Isaiah, O Christ, saw the light

that setteth not, the light of Thy Divine

appearance coming to us in pity, He rose up early,

crying: The dead shall rise, and they who are in

the tombs shall awake, and all those on earth shall

rejoice.

الَّذي النُّورَ أَْبَصرَ لَّما إَِشْعيا إِنَّ ِسيحُ المَ أَيُّها: كطافاسيةلَجَ لَنا، الباِدي اإِللِهي ظُهُوِركَ نُورَ يَْغُرب، ال ِمنَ ادَّ

Heirmos: Verily Jonah the Prophet was caught

but not held in the belly of the whale. But being a

sign of Thee, O Thou Who didst suffer and wast

delivered to burial, he came out of the whale as

out of a chamber and cried unto the watchman: In

vain do ye watch, O watchmen, for ye have

neglected mercy.

فِي يُْضبَطْ لَمْ لِكنَّهُ أُْمِسكَ قَدْ النَّبِيَّ يُونانَ إِنَّ : إرمس

َوأُْسلِمَ تَأَلَّمَ َمنْ يا لَكَ َرْسماً كانَ أَنَّهُ َوبِما الُحوِت، َجْوفِ

ْفِن، إِلى َوَصَرخَ ِخْدر ، ِمنْ َكما الُحوتِ ِمنَ َخَرجَ الدَّ

أَيُّها تَْحُرُسون َوَعبَثاً باِطالً : قائالً الُحّراسِ نَْحوَ

.َرْحَمتَُكمْ أَْهَمْلتُمْ َوقَدْ الَحفَظَةُ،


wast killed, O Word, but wast not separated from

the body which Thou didst share with us; for even

though Thy temple was dissolved at the time of

Thy Passion, the Person of Thy Divinity and

Humanity is one only; and in both Thou art still a

single Son, the Word of God, God and Man.

قُتِْلتَ إِنَّكَ الَكلَِمة، أَيُّها .الَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ َولَوِ ألَنَّهُ ساهَْمتَهُ، الِّذي الَجسدِ ِمنَ تَْنفَِصلْ لَمْ لِكنَّكَ

الهُوتِكَ أُْقنُومَ أَنَّ إاِلّ اآلالم، ِحينِ فِي هَْيَكلُكَ اْنَحلَّ

َكلَِمةَ فَْرداً إِْبناً تََزلْ لَمْ ِكلَْيِهما َوفِي فَقَط، واِحدٌ َوناُسوتِكَ

.َوإِْنساناً هًاإِل هللاِ


Holy Spirit. The fall of Adam resulted in the

death of man, not God; for though the substance

of Thine earthly body suffered, Thy Divinity hath

remained passionless, transforming corrupt nature

to incorruptibility. And by Thy Resurrection Thou

hast uncovered the incorrupt fountain of life.

قَتَلَتْ آَدمَ َسْقطَةَ إِنَّ .الَمْجُد لآلِب واإلبِن والروِح القُُدس أَنَّ إاِلّ التُّرابِّي، َجَسِدكَ َجْوهَرُ تَأَلَّمَ َولَوْ ألَنَّهُ هًا،إِل ال إِْنساناً

هاً لَبِثَ الهُوتَكَ َعَدمِ إِلى الفَسادَ َوأََحْلتَ األَلَم، َعنِ ُمنَزَّ

.المائِتَة َغيرِ الَحياةِ يَْنبُوعَ أَْوَضْحتَ َوبِالقِيامةِ الفَساد،


Amen. Verily, Hades ruled the race of man, but

not forever; for Thou, O mighty One, when Thou

wast placed in the grave Thou didst demolish the

bonds of death with the palm of Thy hand, O

Element of ife, proclaiming to those sitting yonder

from the ages a true salvation, having become, O

Savior, the First-born of the dead.

Glory to Thee our God, glory to Thee. Verily,

hades was pierced and destroyed by the divine fire

when it received in its heart Him Who was pierced

in His side with a spear for our salvation, who

َوفَنِيَتْ طُِعنَتْ الَجِحيمَ إِنَّ .الَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ ةِ بَِحربَة ، بَِجْنبِهِ الَمْطُعونَ اْقتَبَلَتِ لَّما اإِللِهيّة، النّارِ بِقُوَّ

Glory to Thee our God, glory to Thee. The tomb

is happy, having become divine when it received

within it the Treasure of life, the Creator, as one

Who slumbereth for our salvation, who sing:

ظَهَرَ ألَنَّهُ لََسِعيدٌ القَْبرَ إِنَّ .الَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ ً إِل ، الخالقَ الحياةِ َكْنزَ ِضْمنَهُ اْقتَبَلَ ُمذِ ِهيّا لَِخالِصنا كنائم

Holy Spirit. The Life of all was willing to lie in a

grave, in accordance with the law of the dead,

making it appear as the fountain of the

resurrection of our salvation, who sing: Blessed

art Thou, O delivering God.

الُكل َحياةَ إِنَّ .المجُد لآلِب واإلبِن والروِح القُُدس فَأَْظهَرَ المائِتِين، ُسنَّةِ َحَسبَ قَْبر في يُْضَجعَ أَنْ اْقتَبَلَ

أَيُّها أَنتَ ُمباَركٌ : الُمَرت لِين نَحنُ لَِخالِصنا قِياَمة يَْنبُوعَ

Amen. The Godhead of Christ was one without

separation in hades, in the tomb, in Eden, and with

the Father and the Spirit, for our salvation, who

sing: Blessed art Thou, O delivering God.

foundations of the earth quake; for behold: He

who dwelleth in the highest hath been accounted

among the dead and hath been guest in a humble

tomb. Wherefore, O ye youths, bless Him; praise

Him, ye priests; and ye nations, exult Him more

and more unto all the ages.

َوْلتَتََزْلَزلْ السَّماوات، أَيَّتُها ُمْرتَِعَدةً إِْنَذِهلِي: إرمس

قَد الَعالءِ في الّساِكنُ هَُوذا ألَنْ األَرض، أَساساتُ

فِتيانُ فَيا َحقِير ، قَْبر في َويَِضيفُ األَْموات، بَينَ ُحِسبَ

على ِرْفَعةً ِزيُدوهُ ُشُعوبُ َويا! َسب ُحوهُ َكهَنَةُ يا! باِرُكوهُ

هُور َمدى !الدُّ

Glory to Thee our God, glory to Thee. The pure

Temple hath fallen; then rising, He raised with

Him the fallen tabernacle; for the second Adam

Who dwelleth in the highest hath descended unto

the first Adam in the uttermost chambers of hades.

Wherefore, ye youths, bless Him; praise Him, ye

priests; and ye nations, exalt Him more and more

unto all ages.

الطّاهر، الهَيَكلُ اْنَحلَّ قَدِ .الَمْجُد لََك يا إلَهنَا الَمْجُد لَكَ الثّانِي آَدمَ ألَنَّ الّساقط، األَّولَ الِخباءَ َمَعهُ ُمْنِهضاً قامَ ثُمَّ

ل، آَدمَ نَحوَ اْنَحَدرَ قَدِ األَعالي، في الّساِكنَ إِلى األَوَّ

َكهَنَةُ يا! باِرُكوهُ فِتيانُ فَيا الَجِحيم، َدَركاتِ أَقصى

Holy Spirit. The courage of the disciples hath

come to its end. But Joseph of Ramah

(Arimathaea) hath shown great valor; for

beholding the God of all the dead and the naked,

he sought Him and arrayed Him. Wherefore, O ye

youths, bless Him; praise Him, ye priests; and ye

nations exalt Him yet more and more to the end of

ages.

قد التَّالميذَ إِنَّ .الَمْجُد لآلِب واإلبِن والروِح القُُدس أَْبدى فَقد الّراَمة، ِمنَ الّذي يُوُسفُ َوأَّما ُجْرأَتَهُم، فَقَُدوا

Amen. O what dazzling wonders! O what endless

goodness! O what ineffable endurance! For He

that dwelleth in the highest is sealed up under the

earth by His own will. God is slandered as a

misleader. Wherefore, O ye youths, bless Him;

praise Him, ye priests; and ye nations exalt Him

yet more and more to the end of ages.

Heirmos: Mourn not for me, Mother, as thou

beholdest Me in the grave. For I, thy Son, Whom

thou didst conceive in thy womb without seed

shall rise and shall be glorified. And being God, I

will ceaselessly exalt and ennoble those who in

faith and longing magnify thee.

ي، يا َعلَيَّ تَنُوِحي ال: إرمس قَْبر ، في شاهَْدتِني إِذا أُم

ألَن ي َزْرع ، بِال أَْحشائِكِ في بِهِ َحبِْلتِ الّذي اْبنَكِ أَنا

eternal Son, I escaped sufferings at Thy strange

Holy Spirit. The earth, O my Mother, hath hidden

me by Mine own will. And the gatekeepers of

hades trembled at beholding Me clothed with a

robe spattered with revenge; for I being God, have

vanquished mine enemies with the Cross, and I

will rise again and magnify thee.

Amen. Let all creation rejoice, and all the earthly

be glad; for hades and the enemy have been

spoiled. Let the women meet me with spices; for I

redeem Adam and all their descendants, and will

rise on the third day.

لِتَْفَرحِ .آمين .اآلَن وُكل أواٍن وإلى َدْهِر الداهرينَ قَد َوالَعُدوَّ الَجِحيمَ ألَنَّ كافَّةً، األَْرِضيُّونَ َوْليَْبتَِهجِ البَرايا

During the chanting and reading of the above canon, the priest fully vests in white vestments. At the conclusion of

the canon the chanters and readers enter the sanctuary. The church is darkened and all lights and candles are

extinguished, except the eternal light on the Altar table.

II. RESURRECTION SERVICE WITH RUSH PROCESSION

As the Priest sings, “Come, receive ye, the light” in Tone 5, he lights a candle from the vigil light on the

Altar Table, carries the lighted candle through the Holy Doors, and extends it to the approaching Faithful

for them to light their candles. Meanwhile, the Choir repeats many times: “Come, receive ye, the light.”

PRIEST: Come, receive ye, the light from the

light that is never overtaken by night, and glorify

the Christ, Who is risen from the dead.

Paschal Canon - Ode 3

Heirmos: Come, let us drink a new drink, not

wondrously produced from a barren rock, but

from the fount of incorruption, that has come to us

with overflowing of Christ from the tomb, in

whom we are strengthened.

نَْشَرُب َمْشروباً جديداً، ليَس هَلُّموا بِنا : إرمساء، لكنَّهُ يَْنبوُع ُمْستَْخَرجاً بآيَة باِهَرة ِمْن َصْخرة صمَّ

َعَدِم الفَساِد، بفَيَضاِن المسيِح ِمَن القبِر الذي بِه نَتََشدَّد.

Glory to Thy Holy Resurrection, O Lord!

Verily, all creatures have been filled with light, on

heaven and on earth, and all that is below the

earth. Let all creation, therefore, celebrate the

Resurrection of Christ, in which it is established.

إنَّ البرايا بأْسِرها قَِد .الَمْجُد لقيامتَِك الُمقَد َسِة يا َربّ لسَّماَء واألْرَض وما تَْحَت اْستَْوَعبَِت اآلَن نوراً، ا

الثَّرى، فَْلتَُعي ْد إذاً الَخليقَةُ لِقياَمِة الَمسيِح التي بِها

of ages. Amen. O Christ Savior, we were but

yesterday buried with Thee, and we shall rise with

Thee in Thy Resurrection. We were but yesterday

crucified with Thee: Glorify us with Thy

Kingdom.

المجُد لآلِب واإلبِن والروِح القُُدِس، اآلَن وكل أواٍن

Katavasia: Come, let us drink a new drink, not

اء، لكنَّهُ يَْنبوُع ُمْستَْخَرجاً بآيَة باِهَرة ِمْن َصْخرة صمَّ

ِمَن القبِر الذي بِه نَتََشدَّد. َعَدِم الفَساِد، بفَيَضاِن المسيحِ

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down

death by death; and to those in the tombs,

bestowing life. (thrice) Jesus, having risen from

the grave as He foretold, hath given unto us life

eternal and Great Mercy.

ُح قاَم ِمْن بْيِن األمواِت َوَوِطَئ الَمْوَت بالَمْوت، الَمسي

َوَوهََب الَحياةَ لِلَّذيَن في القُبور.)ثالثاً(. لَقَْد قاَم يَسوُع

ْحَمَة ِمَن القَْبِر َكَما َسبََق فَقاَل، ومنََحنَا الَحياةَ األبَِديَّةَ والرَّ

الُعْظمى.

Little Litany

DEACON: Again and again in peace, let us pray to

the Lord.


DEACON: Help us, save us, have mercy upon us, and

keep us, O God, by Thy grace.




Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints;

let us commend ourselves and each other, and all our

life unto Christ our God.

CHOIR: To Thee, O Lord.

PRIEST: For Thou art our God, and unto Thee we

ascribe glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the

Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto ages of ages.

The Hypakoe in Tone Four (or plain reading)

They who were with Mary came before the dawn,

found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher,

and heard the angels say unto them: Why seek ye

Him as man with the dead, who dwells in light

eternal? Behold the grave wrappings; make haste

and declare to the world that the Lord is risen, and

has caused death to die; for He is the Son of God,

the Savior of mankind.

Paschal Canon - Ode 4

Heirmos: Upon the Divine watchtower, let the

God-spoken Habakkuk stand and show us the

angel attired in light, saying openly: Today is

come salvation to the world; for Christ is risen,

Almighty as He is.

لِيَقِْف َمَعنا على الَمْحِرِس اإللهّي َحبقوُق : إرمسياَء قائالً هُ باإللهيّات، وْليُِرنا الَمالَك الُمتَِّشَح الض الُمتَفَو

ٌص للعالِم، ألنَّ الَمسيَح قد قاَم، بما أنَّهُ ِجهاراً: اليوَم خال

على كل شيئ قدير.


Christ hath been revealed as our Pascha for that

He was a male opening a virginal womb. And for

that He was nourishment, He was called a lamb;

and for that He is immaculate, He was called

blameless; and for that He is very God, He is

called perfect.

إنَّ فِْصَحنا الَمسيَح بِما .الَمْجُد لقيامتَِك الُمقَد َسِة يا َربّ أنَّهُ فاتُِح الُمْستَْوَدِع البَتولّي، قَِد اْستَباَن َذَكراً، وبِما أنَّهُ

هٌ َعِن الدَّنَِس قَْد ُدِعَي َي َحَمالً، وبِما أنَّهُ ُمنَزَّ بََشٌر قَْد ُسم

َي تاّماً. ال عيَب فيه، وبِما أنَّهُ إلهٌ قَْد ُسم


Christ, Who is the blessed crown of the year, hath

sacrificed Himself for us of His free will, like a

yearling lamb, a cleansing Pascha. Then on us the

Sun of Righteousness from the tomb did shine,

brilliant and resplendent.

إنَّ المسيَح الذي هَو .لقيامتَِك الُمقَد َسِة يا َربّ الَمْجُد نَِة الُمباَرِك منَّا، قَْد ُذبَِح عِن الُكل باْختِياِرِه إكليُل السَّ

َكَحمل َحْولي، فِْصحاً ُمطه راً. ثُمَّ أْشَرَق لَنا َشْمُس الَعْدِل

ِمَن القَبِر بَهيّاً زاهياً.

Before the symbolical Ark of the Covenant,

David, God’s forefather, did leap and dance. Let

us, therefore, the holy people, seeing the

fulfillment of those symbols rejoice with divine

rejoicing, for Christ the Almighty is risen.
