Grant Project Description The grant will continue providing a full-time SRO for Monelison Middle School. Monelison Middle School has an enrollment of 612

students and 60 faculty and staff. The school is located in Madison Heights area of Amherst County.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Having the SRO present has defused a lot of situations and prevented the need from dispatching road units to deal with issues that the

SRO has been able to handle, freeing up road units to deal with other issues outside of the school.

Grant Project Description Funding is requested to continue a full-time SRO to be stationed at the Bedford “Alternative School,” in the town of Bedford. This

school houses students from all over the county, who, for various reasons, are unable to co-exist among the general population in the

public school system. This SRO will also be in close proximity to the town’s primary school and elementary school in case of need.

There is currently no SRO stationed in the Town of Bedford due to Bedford City reverting back to a Town, so this responsibility now

falls under the County of Bedford.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Bedford County Sheriff's Office has advertised for this position and also posted it in-house. There have been many applicants, but

many are not qualified, and others have withdrawn their applications. A candidate was selected and was supposed to come in for pre-

employment testing on April 1, 2020. However, with the advent of COVID-19, the candidate and the stay at home orders, he did not

want to travel across state lines at this time. We will continue looking to find the appropriate candidate.

Grant Project Description Continuation of the SRO Program with the Bluefield Virginia Police Department and Graham High School. SRO Bowman will

continue to interact with high school students of diverse backgrounds and continue to be a familiar and approachable person among

the students as well as the faculty. By doing so, SRO Bowman will not only be familiar with the physical layout of the school, but

will be knowledgeable about the social environment, where there are potential conflicts—who belongs on school property and who

does not. He will be able to continue to anticipate and practice early intervention in potential incidents. School safety, security and

reducing/eliminating crimes among the students will continue to be the priority of SRO Bowman, working jointly with the Tazewell

County School Division, our community and our department.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) The SRO’s presence is calming and helpful during the students daily routine and has reduced the reported incidents in most all areas

of concern.

and Elementary Schools). The School Security Officer will monitor schools and grounds while schools are in session. The goal of

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) The physical safety and emotional security of the students and staff is critical and the addition of the SSO position has enhanced both.

Grant Project Description This application is for continued funding for a full-time SRO position at Parry McCluer Middle School, Enderly and Kling

Elementary Schools. Our goal is to continue complete coverage of all our city schools. We are currently applying for the 3rd year

continuation of SRO grant money which will enable us to keep our current SRO at the High School. The SRO program will allow the

Buena Vista Police Department to provide a constant law enforcement presence for the students, teachers, and administrators. These

efforts will enable our department to build and foster relationships with the students of all ages, to provide them with a safe learning

environment, and will restore a much needed sense of calm to parents and teachers throughout the community.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Between October 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019, the SRO conducted ALICE Training Refresher for school staff, assisted with 10

incidents that resulted in 2 suspensions, and made referrals to school guidance counselors and truancy/dropout programs.

Grant Project Description The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is seeking funding to continue placing a SRO at Bowling Elementary. The presence of a SRO in

schools is vital given the present climate of society. The project will be measured by the reduction in crime from past years compared

to the upcoming school year(s) if a SRO can be funded to place in the school. The goal is to reduce crimes that occur on school

grounds by 15% by the end of the grant period.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Some of the SRO’s highlights include patience working with several students with emotional issues and being positive resource for

them. She has built a good rapport with several students that have, in the past, become physically aggressive with other students and

staff, in which now those students feel comfortable talking with her and thus preventing situations from escalating further.

procedures, be responsible for implementing programs to reduce juvenile crime, and educating staff on items to reduce crime through

crime prevention methods. The SRO will have additional duties, including mentoring and conducting presentations on youth-related

issues.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Since receiving the 2019-2020 SRO grant funding, the SRO has provided education to school personnel, parents, and students on

safety concerns. In the last 7 months, he has assisted in 17 required drills and conducted 3 safety audits.

Grant Project Description The SRO’s purpose is to reduce and prevent crime by and against students, committed primarily in or in connection with the Colonial

Beach High School. The SRO works to improve police-youth cooperation and communication. The SRO provides guidance on

ethical issues, provides individual counseling to students, explains the law enforcement role in society, crime prevention programs,

functions as an additional educational resource, acts as a referral agent to help students obtain community resources, and guides

students in solving problems.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) During the school year, 81 referrals/discipline issues resulting in 28 detentions, 38 in-school suspensions, and 5 out-of-school

suspensions.

Grant Project Description The Colonial Heights Police Department in partnership with the Colonial Heights Public Schools will continue a full-time School

Resource Officer that will be housed at the Colonial Heights High School Technical Center and serve other Colonial Heights school

campuses as needed. Having a SRO assigned to this campus will continue to provide a high level of security, assist in crime

prevention, assist of SROs and campuses, and provide a liaison between the school and law enforcement. This SRO may reduce

reportable criminal offenses and will provide a visible deterrent as well as being a mentor and role model.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) The objectives: “working toward a reduction in reportable offenses” and “conducting safety/security training” have been met and will

continue.

Grant Project Description This request is a continuation of the current grant that provides a school resource officer at Cumberland County Elementary School.

The current position helps to ensure safety of the students, conduct workshops, assist in security assessments, and be a role model for

students.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) During the grant year, the SRO has conducted informal one-on-one sessions with parents and staff on legal issues, arranged for police

K9’s to do a sweep for narcotics, and assisted in delivering active shooting training to staff and students.

Grant Project Description This 36 month grant will continue to fund a School Security Officer position as George Washington High School. Increasing the

security presence will help deter disruptive behavior, bullying and criminal activity. It will also help build relationships between

students and security personnel. One main objective is to create a safer learning environment for teachers and students.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Between July 1, 2019 and September 30, 2019, the SRO assisted in 6 incidents that resulted in 2 suspensions, organized the loading

and unloading of buses, and stopped several physical altercations before they occurred.

Grant Project Description The School Resource Officer Grant Program for the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office will serve to continue the school resource

officer in the county’s only high school located on the Ridgeview School Campus. The continuation of the SRO at the high school

will enhance the safety of the faculty, the students, and their parents by drastically reducing the response time of highly trained first

responders in a crisis situation.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Within the first seven months, there has been a 48.7% decrease in incidents involving “disruption, defiance, and disrespect”; a figure

that exceed our initial goals.

Grant Project Description The School Resource Officer Grant Program for the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office will allow continuation of a school resource

officer in the Dickenson County Career Center located on the Ridgeview School Campus. The continuation of the SRO at the career

center will enhance the safety of the faculty, the students, and their parents by drastically reducing the response time of highly trained

first responders in a crisis situation.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Within the first seven months, overall incidents documented have decreased 4.9%.

Grant Project Description The School Resource Officer Grant Program for the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office will serve to continue to have a school

resource officer at Sandlick Elementary School located in Birchleaf, VA. If funded the continuation of the SRO at Sandlick

Elementary School will enhance the safety of the faculty, the students, and their parents by drastically reducing the response time of

highly trained first responders in a crisis situation.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Within the first 7 months, the SRO completed training, conducted regular patrols in and around the school, conducted bullying

prevention programs, and worked with the school to assess safety concerns.

Grant Project Description Fauquier County Government and the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office are seeking a continuation grant to fund one (1) School

Resource Officer position for our most geographically remote elementary schools in order to improve school safety and provide early

intervention to counter the threats of drug and gang problems. These positions are currently funded under the DCJS Grant # 20-

A4757FR20. The SRO will be assigned to Claude Thompson Elementary School.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) In the last two quarters, the SRO completed 16 fire drills and performed exterior safety and security assessments.

Grant Project Description Fauquier County Government and the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office are seeking a continuation grant to fund one (1) School

Resource Officer position for our most geographically remote elementary schools in order to improve school safety and provide early

intervention to counter the threats of drug and gang problems. These positions are currently funded under the DCJS Grant # 20-

B4553FR20. The SRO will be assigned to Mary Walter Elementary School.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) In the last two quarters, the SRO completed active shooter training, exterior safety and security assessment, threat assessments and

responded to 54 incidents.

Grant Project Description The Primary goal of this grant is to enhance and continue the partnership between law enforcement and the School division. The

program will be a continuation to the SRO program in the Willis Elementary School. Floyd County has four K-7 Elementary Schools

and one 8-12 High School. The program will focus on school and Public safety, especially on the effects of drugs and juvenile

violence. Secondly, we will share knowledge and resources with citizens/students on community-oriented justice that will foster

improved relationships between law enforcement and youth.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) Over the first seven months, the SRO worked diligently in creating positive relationships with student and security of staff and visitors

at Willis Elementary school.

Grant Project Description Fluvanna County is requesting grant funds for a full-time SRO. The officer will work directly with the High school SRO and

Principals to promote a safer school environment through proactive efforts with students, staff, faculty and parents. The SRO will

assist with safety and crime prevention activities throughout the entire school year, promoting a closer working relationship between

students, parents, schools and Office of the Sheriff. Grant funds will provide fringe and salary for the Officer currently assigned to

Fluvanna County High School.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) During the last seven months, the SRO has implemented many programs and conducted multiple activities in addition to all identified

in our 2019 SRO Grant project goals and objectives.

and favorable student/police officer relationship, Greensville community stakeholders, students, parents and division staff all will

benefit from assignment of a second SRO at Greensville County High School.

Grant Project Description The SRO/SSO grant program provides funding to localities to enable the presence or increased presence of an SRO-trained deputy

within our school. With the increased amount of violence in our schools today, SRO’s have become a necessity. The presence of a

grant-funded SRO in our school will ensure increased safety and security. We intend to place one full-time SRO in our middle school

of 1125 students to increase coverage along with a part-time SRO. Our program request includes $40,515 salary and benefits and

$9,390 in local matching funds.

Grant Project Description The City of Hopewell Police Department and Hopewell City Public Schools will continue their partnership to maintain schools safety

and reduce juvenile violence. Grant funds will allow School Security Officers to be assigned to each of the instructional facilities in

Hopewell in a way that provides full coverage during operation and recreational hours. With these placements, our SSO will be better

equipped to maintain order and disciple, prevent crime, investigate violations of school rules or policies, and detain individuals

violating the law or school board rules or policies on school property or at school sponsored events.

Grant Project Description Hopewell Police Department will continue to staff Hopewell High School with a second grant funded School Resource Officer. Our

goals and objectives for this position are to continue to reduce the incidence of student assaults; to continue to reduce the incidence of

assaults involving adults; and to continue to reduce the incidence of property crimes. The School Resource Officer will continually

conduct formal and informal assessments of school safety conditions, apply Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

principles to improve school safety and participate in activities and events that promote school safety.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) From July 1, 2019 to February 1, 2020, more than sixty criminal incident reports were written for incidents that occurred on school

property.

Grant Project Description Rural Nelson County is spread over 474 square miles. SRO Deputy Jeremiah Templeton is currently serving at Nelson Middle School

population. Our community, school system, and Sheriff’s Office seek the continuation of said grant funding as we continue to build

upon the foundation that was established during the 2019-2020 school year.

department won’t be able to have a full-time SRO at Page County Technical Center.

security evaluation and requested 16 additional cameras and two monitors be installed at the school. He participated in the Fraternal

Order of Police Shop with A Cop program.

Grant Project Description This grant project is a renewal for a third SRO to the Rocky Mount Police Department. This Officer will be placed inside a Franklin

School, Franklin County High School, or both.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) October through December, the SRO dealt with 4 assaults, 5 disorderly conduct, 13 drugs, 33 tobacco, 3 weapons, 3 larceny, 7 threats,

3 bullying, 2 truancy, and 6 traffic safety.

responsible for establishing, enhancing, and continuing the partnership between the local law enforcement agencies and school

divisions by responding to requests for assistance from administrators, assisting with presentations for school personnel, and serving

as a mentor and role model.

a SRO with CHS that is funded in conjunction with the Smyth County School Board. This SRO must provide safety and security for

both schools with a combined enrollment of 734 students. The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office is requesting funding to provide an

SRO for CMS.

Marion, Virginia. Our SRO has made noticeable strides in establishing a safe and secure environment for the students who attend

MES to learn and grow. Our SRO continues to review and revise school safety and security procedures while conducting drills to

ensure effectiveness. Our SRO not only been a positive influence for the students, but for the school staff as well.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) During the first seven months, Lt. Morris investigated and obtained warrants against a parent for drug possession on school property.

He also confiscated 4 knives, issued 6 citations for tobacco possession, and 4 moving traffic citations in the school zone.

Grant Project Description The SRO onsite at Southampton Middle School promotes and provides a safe and non-threatening environment, thus helping all

students learn and be productive. This will be the third year of having a SRO at SMS. He has provided immediate resolution of issues

as they arise. He serves as a role model and is a steady source of hope for these children. They trust him. His presence and programs

are helping to reduce the number of offenses on school grounds. Fifty percent of our students live in high risk neighborhoods. It is

imperative to have a SRO in place to be onsite so he can quickly deal with serious fighting, volatile disputes, and disruptive behavior.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) During the 2019-2020 school year, the SRO participated in the SMS open house, speaking on his purpose of safety and security and

their children with 25% of all parents attending. As of January, there were 32 student offenders that had received suspension with zero

expulsions, and no criminal files.

Grant Project Description Riverdale Elementary School absolutely wants to continue having a SSO on site. 60% of the students at this school are from

economically disadvantaged families (representing the highest poverty areas in Southampton Co). The SSO deters aggressive

behaviors. He alerts of any intruders on the property and in the school. The presence of the SSO deters aggressive behaviors and has

helped students develop a healthy respect for security personnel and persons of authority. The students go to the SSO for help and to

share concerns. This maintains order, discipline, and helps in the students’ adherence to safe secure guidelines. The SSO is also able

to provide immediate response to issues or incidents, which is of the utmost importance. One of the continued goals is to reduce

student offenders by 50%.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) The SSO and school administrators meet weekly to problem solve issues in order to be pro-active in reducing incidents, suspensions,

expulsions, alternative school and to promote safety in the school environment. The SSO has facilitated classes on topics dealing with

stress, self-regulating behaviors, bullying and honesty.

gun at home, and assisted with traffic direction and radar on multiple occasions.

Grant Project Description The Stanley Police Department is applying for $50,000 for a full-time SRO. The SRO’s primary sector will be the Stanley Elementary

School and will assist with providing security checks at Stanley Elementary School. This will be the fourth year that we would have a

full time SRO at Stanley Elememtary School. This position will promote school safety by decreasing barriers between enforcement,

students, staff and parents. Without this funding, our department won’t be able to provide a full-time SRO at Stanley Elementary

School.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) The SRO assisted 30-35 students with the Passport to Success Classes and assisted at Stanley Elementary School Literacy Night. The

SRO was able to troubleshoot issues with the security cameras to get the cameras up and running properly.

Grant Project Description It is the goal of Sussex County to continue the SRO program. In a continued effort to maintain order and discipline, preventing crime,

investigating violations of school board policies and detaining students violating the law or school board policies on school property

or at school-sponsored events. The SRO s responsible for ensuring the safety, security and welfare of all students, faculty staff and

visitors assigned to the school.The SRO will be assigned at Sussex Central Elementary School.

Grant Project Description The program funding will be used to obtain full-time SRO at the Tazewell Middle School located in Tazewell Virginia. The SRO will

also, if needed, aid the current SRO at the Tazewell High School. The ability to obtain a school SRO will provide a safer and more

secure environment for our students at Tazewell Middle School to learn and for the staff to educate.

Grant Project Description Tazewell County is requesting funding for two SROs as a continuation of an ongoing partnership with the Tazewell county Public

School Systems. The SRO position for which the grant funds would supply would further promote the safety and security of the

students, faculty, and staff members of Tazewell County Public Schools, serve as an ambassador of local law enforcement, and help to

facilitate confidence and a welcoming learning environment within the school. Specifically, the SROs will be assigned to Graham

Intermediate and Tazewell Primary Schools.

Grant Project Description The funds will be used to sustain a SRO position at North Tazewell Elementary School. This position will be part of a larger

collaboration between Tazewell County Schools and the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office to place School Resources Officers in all

Tazewell County Schools to assure a safe learning environment.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) For years, we have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the school system; during which time, we have worked to provide

training for school employees and students to effectively deal with a variety of threats and dangers posed to our students.

Grant Project Description Continuation of the full-time, dedicated SRO program in the county’s only middle school, Montross Middle School, located in

Montross, Virginia. This project is intended to continue to improve response time, enhance the learning and working environments for

both students and staff through creating a safer and more secure school. In addition, this program will improve relations between the

school system, the community and law enforcement with proactive efforts to decrease delinquency and increase creative problem

solving. The SRO will serve as the Crime Prevention Officer, informal counselor and law related educator for the school in addition to

law enforcement duties at Montross Middle School.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) The DARE Program being taught by the SRO is well received and we conduct graduations every year.

Grant Project Description To provide a School Resource Officer at the Wise County Career and Technical Center School located in Wise, VA. This Deputy will

be responsible for the security and safety of all students and staff. This will have an impact on our school due to the secure learning

environment, and create positive interactions with law enforcement.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) During the current school year, the school has dealt with 147 incidents ranging from assaults, delinquency, school disobedience

issues, and drug complaints. The school has reported a decrease in incidents resulting in disciplinary action from this same time last

year.

to ensure the overall safety and well-being of students.

Grant Project Description This project will serve to continue an SRO grant at Ft. Chiswell High School in Wythe County, VA. With drug problems, fights and a

firearm being found on campus in a Gun Free Zone, these situations affect the lives of students on the campus of Ft. Chiswell High

School. A dedicated SRO is needed to help keep students and faculty safe.

Project Performance to Date (if Continuation) A firearm was found on school property during his time as SRO and he arranged for the dogs to find the firearm and search the school

which is a gun free zone.
