Preparations for the Workshop The preparatory work for the 2nd workshop of the GradEmp project was mainly of an organisational nature on the part of the FH OÖ. The focus of the workshop was set by the Czech partners of the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice (VSTE). The students of the FH OÖ were prepared for their stay in the Czech Republic by their professor, Mrs. Dr.-Ing. Kathrin Mathmann. For example, the topic of brewing was already taken up and dealt with in the lectures. Thus it was possible for the students to better follow the contents of the workshop, which would further increase the added value of the visit to the Czech Republic.

Workshop The workshop of the project "GradEmp - Where to go after your studies" took place on two days in October. The first day was held directly at the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice. During a guided tour through the laboratories, the students gained insights into the De-partment of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Technology as well as into the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Technology. After the tour two lectures took place. The master brewer of the České Budějovice brewery and the director of the State Agricultural Intervention Fund gave insights into the respective areas. A dinner in the "Kozlovna" restaurant rounded off the programme of the first day. On the second day the 38 participants of the FH OÖ met directly in the České Budějovice brewery. During the guided tour through the brewery they could deepen their already learned knowledge and gain practical experience. After lunch with the hosts in the brewery, the trip went back to Wels.

After a smooth journey to the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice, the partici-pants were welcomed with coffee, cakes, juices, pastries, fruit, vegetables and various rolls.

Official welcome

Pavel Hroch, Deputy Governor of the South Bohemian Region and Ing. Jaromir Polasek, Director of South Bohemian Tourism Headquarters, as well as the entire Czech organisation team welcomed the participating Austrian and Czech students to the workshop at the VSTE in České Budějovice. Ing. Ma-rek Vokoun, Ph.D., briefly introduced his colleagues Mgr. Elena Tomaskova, Ing. Lenka Libzetinova, Ing. Lukas Polanecky and Ing. Roman Svec. The lecture of the director of the South Bohemian Tourist Office, Ing. Jaromir Polasek, was very in-teresting. He also asked all those present to pull out their mobile phones and like the South Bohemia region in Facebook. After his short speech, he immediately checked who of those present had com-plied with his request - which led to cheerfulness in the lecture hall.

Guided tour of the „Measuring Instruments“ laboratories

After the official welcome, a guided tour through the recently built laboratories of the institute was offered. Jan Majernik, Ph.D. of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Technol-ogy led the guests through the building and showed the still very new devices and measuring instru-ments which are available to the students and professors of the VSTE. Also a student project - a self-constructed car, which is to be used in a company within the factory - was shown and explained.

Guided tour of the „Material Science“ laboratories

Jiri Sal from the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Technology took over the second part of the tour, explaining and demonstrating possible applications in the field of materials science to the participants. The entire tour was bilingual. The two professors gave their presentations in Czech and Ing. Roman Svec translated in German.

Keynote „All-Czech Brewery“ von Ing. et Ing. Adam Broz, Ph.D., MBA

The afternoon was introduced by Adam Broz, Ph.D., MBA, Production and Technical Director (Brew-er) in Budejovicky Budvar Brewery. During his exciting lecture about the history of the brewery and the current developments, the MBA fascinated the audience. After the lecture, the students were instructed to think in groups of approx. 5 persons about one question each which was put to the lecturer. The further exchange turned out to be interesting. Mr. Broz shared his knowledge on the topic and discussed lively with those present what was enthusiastically received by them.

Welcome game

In order to loosen up the atmosphere between the two lectures, Mr. Vokoun designed a short out-door game in which the students lined up in a circle and were asked various questions. All those who could answer a question with "yes" met in the middle of the circle. After a brief look around, the next question was asked. After a few rounds, the game director asked the students to come up with their own questions and ask them.

Keynote „State Agricultural Intervention Fund (SAIF)“

The second lecture of the afternoon was given by Ing. Slavomir Ladislav Vacik, Director of the Project Agenda at State Agricultural Intervention Fund. The lecture was Czech and Mr. Svec translated into German for the participants. The participants were informed about the "State Agricultural Interven-tion Fund (SAIF)", in Czech "Statni zemedelsky inter-vencni fond (SZIF)", which administers the subsi-dies granted by the European Union for agriculture and pays them out to the individual farms. At the end of the lecture, the students were again asked to consider one question each in groups, which the lecturer answered.

Evening programme

After a short break in the hotel all participants met at 17:45 o'clock in front of the hotel to be led by Mgr. Elena Tomaskova to the "Gasthaus zum grünen Zweig" (or in Czech "Kozlovna"). There every-body could end the day with a cosy dinner.

City Tour through České Budějovice

After an opulent breakfast the 2nd day started at 09:15 with a city tour through České Budějovice. Mgr. Elena Tomaskova took the tour and gave an insight into the history of the city. After the tour, everyone arrived at the Clarion Hotel and took the tour to the brewery.

Guided tour of the brewery

Mgr. Elena Tomaskova also took over the German-speaking tour of the brewery and led the group through the halls, which have been in existence since 1895 and have been producing the world-famous Budvar beer since 1930. A special highlight was the visit of the master brewer Adam Broz, who welcomed the participants directly in the brewing cellar and let them taste a specially brewed beer.

Lunch and closure in the Original Pivnice Budvarka Budvar

The second day ended with an invitation from the Czech organisation team to the restaurant "Origi-nal Pivnice Budvarka Budvar" next to the Budweiser Brewery. After a pleasant discussion between the two organizing teams, the next steps of the project were discussed and it was agreed to stay in contact after the end of the project period in order to carry out a joint project if possible.

Project meetings

In addition to informal talks during meals or short breaks, an official project meeting was held to discuss the workshop of the two days and further steps.

Dissemination und publicity

During the event, care was taken to adhere to the guidelines of dissemination and publicity.

Added Value

In addition to the great intercultural increase in knowledge on both sides, the contact with the mas-ter brewer in particular was a great success. Dr.-Ing. Mathmann and Mr. Ing. and Ing. Brosz agreed to stay in contact. It could be interesting for both sides to give students the opportunity to come to the Czech Republic to write their Bachelor's or Master's thesis or to complete an internship directly in the brewery.
