Example:

Introduction sentence: First of all, let me give you some important

background information.

Ancient Civilization explanation: You may have never heard of Ancient Mesopotamia before. Well that would make sense, because it nolonger exists. You see, Ancient Mesopotamia was NOT a country, like wehave today but a civilization. Ancient civilizations were some of the firstgroups of people who lived and worked together in a society. For the firsttime in human history, these civilizations of people studied science, invented many modern day tools, had several cultural practices and evensystems of government.

Time period: This __________________ civilization existed between theyears ____________ and ________________ B.C.E. (or before common era). That was ________ years ago! See here, on this time line. This is 2012,this is when I’m talking about.

Location: It was located where the countries of __________, ___________,and _______________ are located today. See here (point to map) on thecontinent of Asia. (4 – 10 sentences: depends on how much backgroundinformation your audience will need).

3. Audience interaction: Ask your group a question about something thatyou just taught them.

Example: Could you tell me something you’ve learned so far?

Does anyone remember what continent _____________ is located on?

4. Your country’s government – Remember, your job is to teach

here. What was the focus of your research? What type of government was this? What does that mean (for someone who

hasn’t studied governments before? Who was the leader? How

much power did he/she have? How could the citizens participate in

the government? What is your opinion?

Example: When I researched this country, I focused on learning about its

government, leaders and citizens. During this time,

_________________________ was most like an autocracy. This means it was

ruled by 1 person and who was a monarch or king named __________.

The king was not elected, but inherited power from his family. The

king had all the power over this citizens.  This is unlike America,

because America is a democracy where its citizens participate in

government by voting for their leaders, proposing bills and voting on laws.

In this country if your parents were poor, you were poor. And the people

who were wealthy had many more privileges and freedoms than those who

were not. This system doesn’t of government seems good for those who are

wealthy or in power, but terrible for those who are poor.

When researching this country, specifically what were you lookingto learn about?

What did you learn about your place’s government?
