DIRECTOR’S NOTES

Conceiving the script in early September, under constant bombardment of

TV news about the U.S. presidential election and Syrian refugee crisis, the

cast proposed some heavy themes, such as immigration, segregation, the

role of the police, the media, and the idea of sacrifice. At the same time,

many of the cast wanted to try out having super powers. Who doesn’t? Each

cast member ultimately made their own choice whether to be a villain, a

super hero, or an everyday person. They chose their super power and/or

occupation. The plot grew organically from the characters and their jobs

or powers. Much of the dialogue was written or developed by the cast

during improvisations.

As a member of the audience, you have a super power, too: the power of

imagination. Our heroes can’t do it alone. We need you to join us in the

fight for truth, justice, and the American Way. Turn your clock back to

1949, just after the Second World War. The townspeople of Metro-City are

feeling safe and prosperous under the watchful eyes of a team of Super

Heroes who have taken up residence. What do they have to fear?

HISTORY OF JESTERS

The concept of theater with those who have special needs was first introduced to Highland Park United Methodist Church by church member Sue Ringle, whose nephew had performed with a Jesters theater troupe in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Since then the HPUMC Jesters troupe has successfully planned, practiced and performed six original musical shows including Dave’s Circle of Friends (’10-‘11), Movin’ On: A Family Tale of Squirrels, Police, and Magic (’11-’12), Slim Chance in Boot Heel (‘12-‘13), Paradise Island (‘13-‘14), Invasion from the Stars (‘14-‘15), and Time Will Tell (’15-’16). This year marks the seventh season of Jesters.

All ticket sales and contributions will support Jesters and the Special Needs Ministry at HPUMC.
