Rev. Brad Braxton, the newpastor of New York’s famedRiverside Church has becomethe target of a parishioners'lawsuit complaining about a$600K compensation package.

Manhattan's Riverside Church,which has a history as a socialjustice advocate, is undoubtedlyone of the country's mostcelebrated religious institutions.Reportedly, the 1,500 member

church is paying Braxton,its new senior pastor, morethan $600,000 in annualcompensation, which istwice what James Forbes,who preceded Braxton wasgetting after runningRiverside for more than 18years.

Braxton was selected in avote of the congregationlast fall and was officiallyinstalled Sunday, April24, 2009. However, agroup of churchmembers filed suit inManhattan SupremeCourt, claiming that theywere never told aboutthe package.

The judge declined to block theInstallation and urged both sides totry to settle the situation. Thecongregation is scheduled to meetMay 3.

The two sides should find a way toachieve "some form of fellowshipand reconciliation between membersof the church," Stone said, to"prevent a split."

NETWORK CANCELS SHOW DUE TO POORRATINGS

AOL Black Voices columnist Jawn Murray reported the news that BET has pulled "106 &Gospel," from its line-up. Hosts of the show included 21:03 member Jor'el Quinn and Trin-i-tee 5:7 singer Angel Taylor.

The Gospel spinoff of "106 & Park" premiered on Jan. 11 and aired at noon on Sundays. Theshow offered an alternative for Christian youth and represented a ray of hope for more positive,wholesome programming in the Network’s offerings.

Other contributors included Tye Tribbett, Kierra Sheard and rapper, I-Rocc. According toMurray, “Buzz that the show was going to be nixed because of poor ratings began online a fewweeks back.”

Bishop Anthony Jinwright ofGreater Salem City of God inWest Charlotte says there's noevidence to support thecharges that he under reportedincome by hundreds ofthousands of dollars and he's

waiting for his day in court.

According to the Charlotte ObserverNewspaper, a 16-page indictment saysJinwright failed to report $875,000 intaxable income for him and his wife, HarrietPorter-Jinwright. She is listed on the churchWeb site as a co-pastor, but is not charged.

The indictment alleges Jinwright owes from$200,000 to $400,000 in unpaid federal andstate income taxes.

The indictment also details salary andreimbursements of $3.1 million for Jinwrightfrom the church from 2001-2006. It alsolists more than $400,000 in income fromspeaking engagements and book sales.

Jinwright's personal expenditures include$198,000 in total car lease payments from2001 to the present, according to theindictment. The vehicles listed: a BMW530i, a Mercedes-Benz S550V, five Lexusvehicles and a Maybach 57 – billed as aluxury sedan with a 550-horsepower engineand worth about a quarter of a milliondollars.

“We have no comment at this time,” saidBishop Alan Porter, the church's executivepastor, adding: “Trust in God.”
