A Message of Life “Rabbi, it is good that we are here!”
Mark 9:2-10 The Mountain of Tabor cannot be the end of our journey. On the contrary, the transfiguration for us is an invitation to go further. The true glory of the Lord is not found in the peace of the mountain, but in the pathways of the plain that leads us into Jerusalem until the Calvary. Peter prefers the rest of contemplation, to the fatigue of facing the real problems of life. The temptation of Peter is our temptation. Peter has to come down the mountain to face the challenges of real life. The mystery of God’s presence is hidden in the reality of the world and the events of history. The world is God’s creation and when we revere the sacredness of nature we get in touch with God’s wisdom and power. When we read or listen to the word of God in the Bible (Moses, Elijah, and Jesus), we hear and listen to God’s voice itself that addresses us. If we have the courage to follow Jesus to His Cross, we will see that only there will we find the full revelation of His glory: Jesus’ death is the glory of God’s love. For Peter, as for us, the journey of faith ends there. To follow Jesus is to accept the challenge of our self-giving love.
