WELLBEING DAYWe had so much fun and many laughs at the Wellbeing Day in June. About 40 people attended and watched or tried out Tai Chi, Tai Chill, Shibashi and Laughter Yoga.

We had guests from the Arthritis Association, Earth Carers and Hearing Health. Mel Brown taught Shibashi and Shannon taught Tai Chill.

Thank you to the brave-hearted Affinity Tai Chi students for their demonstration of Tai Chi.

We enjoyed the Shibashi so much that we now incorporate it into our weekly Tai Chi class. Unlike Tai Chi the students don’t have to learn the forms but still benefit so much from the breathing and flowing movement.

Tai Chi classes are held on Wednesday mornings in Dalkeith Hall.

LAUGHTER YOGAWe had fun with Laughter Yoga which gives near-immediate access to heart intelligence. It connects people one with another at the heart level and helps everyone develop an attitude of forgiveness, generosity and compassion, while actively seeking the happiness of others.

“Laughter is an orgasm triggered by the intercourse of sense and nonsense.”

A good, real, unrestrained, hearty laugh is a sort of glorified internal massage, performed rapidly and automatically. It manipulates and revitalises corners and unexplored crannies of the system that are unresponsive to most other exercise methods.

Affinity Laugher Club meets on the second Wednesday each month at 10.30am.

WELLBEING DAYThank you to Jacqui and Ian for their Tango dance demonstration.

After lunch guest speaker Rebecca Prince-Ruiz from Earth Carers spoke about the damage plastic waste does to the creatures of our oceans.

Adam Faulkner from Hearing Health explained the latest technology to assist hearing. Heaps of spot prizes donated by Martineau’s and Broadway Pharmacy were won throughout the day.

How many pills does a person on three medications a day take in a year?* That was the question posed by Broadway Pharmacy, who teamed up with the Nedlands Affinity Club. Broadway Pharmacy gave a “stay on your feet” presentation with an emphasis on medications.Twenty five people attended the presentation and found it interesting and informative. They were rewarded with bags full of goodies including cash vouchers for Broadway Pharmacy.

* The answer is 1,100.

STAY ON YOUR FEET

How many pills in the jar?

TABLE TENNISTable tennis continues to be popular especially with the men.

Please feel free to come and have a go - we have players of all levels and everything is provided, including bats. This is a fun way to keep fit.

Affinity members just $2.00 including tea, coffee and biscuits; non-members $4.00.

Tuesdays, 11.00 am - 2.00 pm.

WARATAH WALKERSThe Waratah Walkers are enjoying the spring weather and beautiful river scenery. The group walks about four to five kilometres but hardly notice this distance as most people are deep in conversation with friends made while walking. These conversations need to be finished so there’s no better way than over a cup of coffee!

We are now walking our seventh year.

Waratah Walkers meet Tuesdays at 8.00 am.

LINE DANCINGAffinity Club’s latest activity is line dancing - come and give it a go!

The great thing is there’s no partner required. Line Dancing is another way to have fun while keeping fit. You will do at least 4000 steps in an hour! This shot was taken at the first class. Come along with a friend and double the fun.

Line dancing is taught by Geoff Tuke and is on Wednesdays at 1.30 pm - 2.30 pm.

INTERNET COMPUTER CAFEAffinity Club’s Internet Computer Cafe has been very popular lately with a full house. People have discovered how enjoyable it is to learn how to use iPads and phones in a relaxed and informal setting.

Thanks must go out to our volunteers Ian, Raewyn and Doris for their dedication and patience and creating a friendly and relaxed environment to learn in. Without these volunteers there would be no Internet Café.

Cost for Affinity members is $6.00 and $10.00 for non-members. Cost includes morning tea. The group meets every Thursday 10.00 am - 12.00 noon.

If you have ever wished to learn something new that you can do for life to exercise your brain, try Mah Jong.

We play under the tuition of a fabulous volunteer Ken, who teaches both European and Chinese style. Players are of various levels and we always welcome new players to the game.

Cost for Affinity members is $3.50, including tea and coffee, and $5.00 for non members. If you have friends who would prefer to play cards at this time they are also welcome to come as we now play in the larger Day Centre so there’s plenty of room.
