themes

Breakthroughs in transportationThe Puget Sound faces many challenges with implementing new technologies

and finding a balance between public and private transportation services. It is important that transportation choices are made with environmental consideration and sustainability at the core. Where we are now and where

we are headed was addressed throughout GoGreen Seattle with a focus on creating the infrastructure for electric vehicles, self-driving cars, biodiesel for

jets, employer programs, and the sharing economy.

regional resilienceHow do businesses prepare for an unknown future? Our cities and

businesses within them must be prepared to combat the potential for a natural disaster or system disruptions as they arise. No matter the size of an organization it is vital to have a resiliency plan in place. Based on topics such

as supply chain vulnerability and resource management, leaders in resiliency came together to discuss the possible climate impacts on businesses and

how to put a resiliency plan on their agenda before a disaster takes place.

equity in environmental organizationsRegional experts discussed how to combat what is often referred to as the

“green ceiling.” The first step is to determine the root cause of why there is a disconnection between equity in environmental organizations. Next we must determine what would need to change in order for that disconnect to

go away. Panelists encouraged audience members to take a stand in their organizations and bring the inclusion of people of color to the forefront of

the discussion.

Climate action ImperativeMany businesses in the region are making a transition to a low-carbon

economy through investment in communities that are centered on environmental protection. Businesses across Washington State are driving forward their commitment to combat climate change through signing the

Washington Climate Declaration. Signatories of the Climate Declaration shared the importance of the pledge and how local governments can best

support climate action in business.
