Year End Reflections2014-15

Marlena Hebern Last year I posted my

reflection of my personal and

professional goals for the school year online. I decided to continue that practice this year.

Work Based Goals:

LCAP Priority 1 Basic Services:

1. Develop through to board adoption and begin to implement an EL Master Plan for 2014-15.

This year I have taken on the task of developing our district plan for English Learners. There are several stages that are needed in order to reach the goal of a legally compliant and comprehensive EL plan. These steps are based on my research so far and subject to modification based on discussions with Robin. Complete CELDT testing

Success! We did indeed finish up testing even though we started out the year without Ceci. I trained 2 staff members on the CELDT and managed to test all students in 30 days and to send out the required letters to all parents.

1. 2.  Reclassification criteria

Nine students were reclassified this year (0 last year)

Excited students here receiving their honors at a board meeting, four students stood up in front of the board and gave a touching testimonial about their experiences learning English in our schools. It was definitely a highlight of my year!

1. 3. Developing DELAC and ELAC committees

2 rounds of nominations were sent out at MES and EP before any parents stepped up

Elections in progress at El Portal

Elections pending at MES

1. 4.  Developing other assessments

EL students are being assessed with Moby Max, Standards Plus, CORE, and ESGI

We were in the process of looking for an assessment to follow the CELDT assessment that was based online.

1. 5.  EL Master Plan

Components of the master plan are being developed. It was decided to hold off on the master plan until the fall of 15-16. This year, I began the investigation of aligning the Master Plan to the LCAP.

This is breaking new ground!!! NO one has yet to align an EL plan to LCAP!!!

Art Davis’ plan for aligning the SPSA to the LCAP seemed promising.

A check off list iwas formatted, customized to Mariposa, and ready to use.

It was my goal to develop a cutting edge plan that incorporated some of the unique things that Mariposa is doing into the EL Master Plan.

The check off list has been developed for the entire

master plan iPod Plan

LCAP Priority 2 Implementing Core Standards:

1. Develop a new teacher PLN and plan and conduct 5 meetings through the year.

Progress:

I have been meeting with the new teachers during this year. I have supported BTSA for those in BTSA both within the PLN and outside of the PLN as need arises. The PLN is up and running. We have scheduled the remaining meetings.

Each meting includes:

A team building activity

A pedagogy element in the form of an article or discussion

A tech tip

Looking forward to the calendar and upcoming events in MCUSD with suggestions for being successful. (Such as parent conferences, or report cards)

LCAP Priority 4 Student Achievement:

3. Develop data dashboards in aeries.net , MobyMax, and other district initiated programs in the K-8 grade range and train administrators and site lead teachers in the use of the data dashboards.

We bring data to teachers and administrators through these dashboards. This year we have a new tool to help teachers and admin understand the data they generate. It was my goal to develop the dashboard and to help teaches and admin understand how to use and understand the data they see.

Progress:

I have developed the dash board for the DPA. Teachers can now see the DPA data.

I have been training teachers and admin in the Moby Max, ESGE, and Aeries.

Personal Goal:

1. Continue to expand and improve my personal PLN and presenting skills through CUE, Twitter, MCUSD and by presenting both locally and for other organizations, meeting people, and sharing ideas.

Last year I started a personal PLN outside of our local Mariposa setting through Twitter and CUE for the first time. This year my goal is to deepen those connections. I plan to do this by presenting at CVCUE and perhaps at other opportunities this year.
