The company:

Radici Group is one of the most active Italian chemicals companies at an international level. RadiciGroup's diversified businesses operate worldwide and are focused on Chemicals, Plastics, SyntheticFibres and Textiles.

Solution:

The new Mobile & Wireless application designed by GN Enterprise Business Solutions has beenimplemented in the production plant in Novara in order to improve the materials handlings, thestorage and the shipment of products:• All the warehouse keepers have been equipped with a handheld terminals endowed with barcode

scanners;• Transactions within the warehouse have been automated;• The process entails that the employee affixes the bar code label to the outgoing batch;• The scanning of the label allows the recording of parameters associated with the quality of the

lot, for example the weight;• At the time of shipment, the employee scans the pick-list associated to the license plate of the

motor vehicle in charge of transporting goods. Then the employee performs the same operationon the labels of the material under load in order to assess the compliance with the orders ofcustomers;

• Moreover this application supports the reclassification of stock. In case of variation in the qualityof the stocks, the batches can be assigned with a new quality class through the scanning of thelabels.

Results:

The automation of the processes has brought remarkable benefits both in terms of traceability ofthe products and performance of the process. Within the central database are recorded all the dataconcerning the production lot: its location within the warehouse, the quality parameters associatedwith the lot itself, the classification and, if the lot has already been shipped, the motor vehicle used.In addition, the Mobile solution provided by GN has increased the speed at which the location andthe parameters of the products are tracked. Quality Control as well has become easier and fasterthanks to the real-time availability of data concerning the single production lot.Finally, further future developments of the project are expected to be deployed. In particular theadoption of a Service Oriented Architecture to manage similar issues within the several warehousesof Radici Group. In this way all the warehouses of the group will be gradually connected, providingthe integration between logistics processes and the ERP.
