Jesus makes a difference!

Service Times: Sundays @ 8.30 & 10.15am, 5 & 7pm

Plus activities for adults & young people right throughout the week

Now open till late Friday & Saturday nights. Come in and enjoy our NEW dinner menu! Seafood, Steak, Chicken, Home made Pasta and so much more!

Building community is big in our society. Many groups and organi-sations see it as an important goal. Community organisations and groups work to bring people together to build relationships, support people through tough times and help meet the needs of others. There is no doubt these communities are working to make our world a better place – imagine what it would be like without them!

The Bible sees “Community” as an important goal. In the Bible’s New Testament book of Acts, shortly after Jesus’ death, resurrection and return to heaven, Jesus’ followers enthusias-tically spread his message of forgive-ness and the promise of eternal life, gathering together in churches, where by the power of God, their lives were transformed into the kind of people they were created to be. They expe-rienced the joy of knowing God and his care and provision for them. They experienced new life as they enjoyed friendship and relationship with each other. Imagine being part of a commu-nity like this!

The Bible describes a Christian as being a member of “God’s fam-ily” and part of “God’s building”. It’s a picture of supporting each other and of working togeth-er; having relationships with each other as each Christian uses what God has given them to build others up.

This is our goal at Glenmore Park Anglican Church. We are not perfect, but we are people who have come to know how good it is to follow Jesus, just like the first Christians all those years ago. We want this knowledge to transform us and impact every part of our life. We want to share this good news with everyone in Glenmore Park and the surrounding suburbs.

So we offer you an invitation, no matter who you are, young or old, sin-gle or married, even if you’ve never been to church before, to be part of a community of believers at Glen-more Park Anglican Church and begin

to have your life transformed by our good God.

Our new Church Building (and big-ger car park!) will officially be opened on Saturday 3rd December at 3pm by Archbishop Peter Jensen. You are warmly invited to attend then and join us each Sunday.

A path to share with careCouncil is calling on community members to have input into the design of the shared use path which will run along the

eastern side of Castlereagh Road from Jane Street to High Street and along the eastern side of Mulgoa Road between High Street to Glenmore Park.

As part of the NSW Bike Plan, cyclists and pedestrians will be able to make their way into Penrith’s City Centre on dedicated pathways following State Government funding of a new shared-use pathway along Mulgoa Road.

“Connecting people and helping people move in and around the City is a high priority for Council,” the Mayor of Pen-rith City, Councillor Greg Davies, said. “Already, commuters and pedestrians have been enjoying the new path linking the Great River Walk, Memorial Avenue and High Street past the Civic Centre into the City to Worth Street. “The RTA has confirmed the funding for 2011-12 to enable Council to design and construct the shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path which will be for everyone - cyclists wanting to ride off road, shoppers, families and all pedestrians. The work will be staged and should be completed between Jane Street and Jamison Road within the next 12 months,” Cr Davies said.

“As further funds become available the path will extend to connect with the Glenmore Parkway.”

Kalinda Jade StudiosThe Glenmore Park music school Kalinda Jade Studios

is growing by the hour. Between the flexiblesyllabus that they tailor for each student and their ability to make music fun, their popularity with their students is soaring. “Music and the arts are essential for the development of any indi-vidual, and we are just trying to share what we’ve learned,” Kalinda remarks, “We hope to provide a nurturing environ-ment and a quality education to anyone who walks through our door.”

This is a big month for KJ Studios. Their annual concert is on the 27th of November at the Blacktown Workers Club, and promises to be a great night. Tickets include dinner and a show and they are holding a raffle to help raise money for ‘Norcott Disability Services.’ “The students have all been preparing for months now and most of them can’t wait to get up there and show everyone what they can do!” Bryan Ramsa, teacher and co-owner, exclaimed. “It is normally a closed event, but we hired a larger venue this year so that we could invite you to come along and check it out. If you are interested in tickets, just give us a call.”

This is also a big month for the students, as the year 12 students have just started their HSC. “Getting students through their HSC is our specialty,” Kalinda smiles. “We have been doing this for many years now and we welcome anyone who needs a bit of help getting through.” Last year the average mark for the Studio was 90%, which is nothing to scoff at, and they hope to bring that up even higher in the years to come. “We are dedicated to providing the best music tuition you can find in Western Sydney” and with stu-dents traveling as far as Rouse Hill and Katoomba they are well on there way.

An attractive blonde was in the casino and placed a twenty-thousand dollar chip on a single roll of the dice. She said, ‘I hope you don’t mind, but I feel much luckier when I’m completely nude’. With that, she stripped from the neck down, rolled

the dice and yelled, ‘Come on baby, Mama needs new clothes!’ As the dice came to a stop, she jumped up and down and squealed. ‘YES! YES! I WON, I WON!’ She hugged each of the deal-ers and then picked up her winnings and her clothes and quickly departed. The dealers stared at each other dumb-founded. Finally, one of them asked, ‘What did she roll?’ The other answered, ‘I don’t know - I thought you were watching.’The weather is warming up now and winter clothes are being replaced by more revealing, less bulky apparel and I am no longer able to hide my excessive eating and lack of exercise by wearing jackets and jumpers. As I’m look-ing at the excess pounds I have accumulated over winter, I am embarrassed at how I have allowed myself to indulge a little more than usual with the excuse that “It’s winter and everyone eats a bit more.” The cold weather is often used as the excuse to miss a walk or the usual exercise routine that was previously part of my daily life.I think we all make excuses for not making an effort to keep ourselves spiritually healthy too. Many people are satisfied with the Christmas, Easter and special occasions as times to pray or be with God.However, as the Springtime merges into Summer, we

are reminded that our excesses and indulgences will all be revealed as our concealing clothing is no longer there to hide our sins.Jesus warns us to always live in such a way that when we meet our God we will be able to stand erect with our heads high as we joyfully await our judgment. (Luke 21:28) The book of Genesis uses the analogy of nakedness to describe the realization of what sin does to our soul. Adam and Eve discover their nakedness when they understand the effect that their disobedience against God has been revealed. A true Christian has nothing to hide, nothing to be ashamed of and is always ready to have their lives exposed and be seen with our “clothes” off. Our Church community welcomes anyone who is interested in learning more about the God who loves us. We have a program starting now for anyone enquiring about the Catho-lic religion. It is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and is happening every Tuesday evening at the Bethany Catholic School. This year Mikayla returned to Joeys SC (formerly St Jo-seph’s SC) to play in the NDSFA U10s mixed competition, coming second in the competition and then winning the top four finals series. Mikayla along with her team mates are playing indoor soccer at Penrith Indoor Sports Centre.

Mikayla recently played her first game in the second round of the competition, although they lost to Northern Ti-gers Mikayla is gaining the opportunity and experience of a lifetime. Reduce grass fire risksThe bush fire season is upon us

Penrith City Mayor Greg Davies said recent rains have caused a signifi-cant increase in vegetation and grass growth and this has increased the po-

start easily and spread quickly,” Councillor Davies said. “These fires can destroy homes, properties, lives and liveli-hoods. “Everyone should be prepared and have a Bushfire Survival Plan.

Glenmore Park Town Centre Update

Behind the scenes planning and preparation works have continued over the last few months for the new Glen-more Park Town Centre. Shopping Centre manager Bren-don Sheedy says “It certainly has been a busy time for us. At this stage we are anticipate the construction works to commence in 2011, which will be subject to the various ap-provals for the Centre as outlined in the approved Develop-ment Application.

The new Glenmore Park Town Centre will see the in-clusion of a new Discount Department Store and a second supermarket; being the two new major businesses for the centre. Final details are still being progressed with all ten-ants, the owners and the GPTC project team. We look for-ward working with the community of Glenmore Park and the greater Penrith area on this exciting next stage of the centre life cycle.”

MasterCut Meats has recently expanded and have taken over the shop next to their current premises. Dave Hunt and his team from MasterCut Meats have now ex-panded and are offering a much improved range of fresh chicken products, an expanded meat range and have intro-duced a great range of delicatessen products to the cen-tre. MasterCut Meats have over 145 delicatessen lines of-fering everything from gourmet salads, deli meats, gourmet cheeses, gourmet meats etc... There is simply too much to mention.

Brendon says “We congratulate Dave and his team in expanding their business at Glenmore Park Town Centre.

Petrol Plus has increased their trading hours at the cen-

tre. They are now opened from 5am until 12pm every night making it even easier to “fill up” at a time that suits you!”

Glenmore Park High School students go on

Safari55 Students from Glenmore Park

High School on board a CountryLink train bound for Dubbo were fare-welled by local MP Tanya Davies and NSW Environment Minister, Robyn Parker as part of the first group of students to travel to Western Plains Zoo for an evening zoo safari

The students will be taking part in the specially-developed conservation education program ‘Endanger Rang-er.’ an election commitment by the NSW State Government

Across NSW, a total of 3300 year 8 students will take part in the pro-gram that will introduce them to life skills including leadership, group work, citizenship and sustainable practice as well as key areas of the education curriculum.

“Endanger Ranger includes ele-

ments of both African and Aboriginal culture. Students will encounter every-thing from Australian reptiles through to African rhinoceros and apes during their overnight visit.

“This is very exciting for the NSW Government as we’re fulfilling a prom-ise to people in western Sydney that local students will get access to con-servation education opportunities.

“This type of education experience, focussing on wildlife encounters, will

galvanise these students to take ac-tion for conservation and represents a great investment in the future of wild-life and the environment,” Ms Parker said.

Taronga is providing 15 video cameras to help the students cap-ture information, so each student who takes part can develop a short conservation-focused film or pres-entation that they will share with primary school students in their lo-cal area.

This mentoring model has been successfully pioneered by Taronga Education Department focussing on local student communities sup-porting the conservation of wild-

life including, Little Penguins on the Northern Beaches, Regent Honeyeat-ers at Capertee in NSW and Chiltern in Northern Victoria, Booroolong Frogs around Tumbarumba and Platypus in the Orana region around Dubbo.

JDRF Annual WalkEach year in October Juvenile Dia-

betes Research Foundation (JDRF) hold their Annual Walk to Cure Diabe-tes to help raise funds to aid in the re-search the cause of Juvenile Diabetes.

The Walk to Cure Diabetes is the only national family day for the type 1 diabe-tes community to join together to support medical research that will improve the lives of people with the disease, and ultimately find a cure.

Around 40,000 people around Aus-tralia will join the Walk to Cure Dia-betes this year, with the goal of rais-ing over $2 million for critical medical research.

122,300 Australians have type 1 diabetes and there is no cure, yet. Re-searchers are working hard to more fully understand the complicated mix of genetic and environmental factors that may cause or trigger this disease. However, it is certain that going on a diet or cutting down on sugar doesn’t stop type 1 diabetes.

Mike Wilson CEO of JDRF, urged anyone who is affected by type 1 diabetes to get involved in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. “It’s a great time to connect with all those who share

the hope about type 1 dia-betes because the pace of research change is increas-ing and our efforts really are driving progress forward.”

Not only is Chloe gather-ing sponsorship from indi-viduals and businesses to support her involvment in the Walk to Cure Diabetes, but

she is also planning other fund raising activities The main one being a Twi-light Saga Break-ing Dawn Part 1 Movie Event, with the help of her Mum and fam-ily friend Jessica Pease who run www.funrais ing -girls.com

The Movie Event will be held at Hoyts Penrith on the 28th Novem-ber at 6pm featur-

ing the latest instalment of the Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part 1. The FunRaising Girls will also be holding a raffle at the event with ALL PROFITS going to JDRF. All guests who attend the movie also receive a goody bag to rummage through.

For more information go to Team-Chloe.net and to find out more about the Breaking Dawn Movie Event and to purchase tickets go to www.fun-raisiniggirls.com

Natasha’s WinNatasha Duarte from Glenmore

Park had added another win to her growing musical achievements with first place in the Australian Childrenʼs Music Foundation (ACMF) 2011 Na-tional Songwriting Competition.

Marking its ninth year, the ACMF Na-tional Songwriting Competition is an annual, free compe-tition open to all Pri-mary and Secondary school children in Australia (reaching more than 11,000 schools). Student en-tries comprise origi-nal compositions for a range of catego-ries, including con-temporary, classical, instrumental, and lyr-ics only.

Prizes to the value of $30,000 are awarded in the form of musical equip-ment or tuition for both the winner and their school.

The ACMF received thousands of entries from around Australia once again this year, from students aged as young as 4 and up to 18 years old, which were judged by a cross section of industry professionals.

Jane Gazzo, Channel V Presenter, and an official judge of the Competi-tion said: “There was so much talent and such a diverse range of musical genres and themes which were all of an incredibly high standard. This com-petition is a brilliant way to encourage youth and children to express them-

selves creatively and skillfully.I am grateful to the ACMF for im-

plementing this wonderful initiative and I look forward to hearing more from the entrants in years to come.”

ACMF Founder, Don Spencer OAM said: “Research has proven that par-ticipation in music has a significant im-pact on a childʼs health and develop-

ment; it inspires creativity, imagination and self-expression. This competition enables us to deliver on our promise and give kids the chance to express themselves in a positive way – through music”.

This yearʼs competition was proudly sponsored by the Adam Scott

Foundation, Ampal, APRA AM-COS, Ashton, the Department of Education, Employment & Work-place Relations (DEEWR), and Roland.

The ACMFʼs mission is to use the power of music to inspire and enrich the lives of all Australian children and youth, particularly the disadvantaged and indige-nous. A team of specialist, dedi-cated ACMF music teachers pro-vide weekly tuition and variety of musical instruments to students in disadvantaged areas, remote lo-cations for indigenous children as well as youth ʻat riskʼ in juvenile justice centres across Australia.

Orchard Hills Dump: Call To Action

The Land and Environment Court has issued instruc-tions that the Orchard Hills Industrial Waste Dump now be exhibited for public comment. The court case has been a gruelling, confronting and at times, frustrating experience for residents as they have watched the Commissioner of the court give the proponent, Dellara Pty Ltd, three at-tempts to amend their proposal.

The Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP is calling the community to action. "It's time to raise your voice against this dangerous dump proposal in our community". "We need thousands of signatures on the Letter of Objection and the Petition".

The RAID Committee (Residents Against Industrial Dump) met over the weekend to begin the arduous task of collecting letters of objection for a third time.

"Each time the Commissioner permits Dellara to amend their proposal, the previous objections become irrel-evant to the case, as the court is now assessing a different matter".

RAID Secretary, Mark George has said "The industrial dump located less than 500 meters from families will be a health hazard; it will negatively impact our local environ-ment, bring hundreds more trucks along Mamre Road, and impact a thriving residential community"

"We cannot interfere in the justice system, however the part we can play is to demonstrate with thousands of let-ters of objection an overwhelming voice against this dump"

600 homes for Mulgoa Rise

Mulgoa Rise is now well un-derway with construction ad-vanced on the first residential stage. The Bradley Road en-trance off the Northern Road will be a new access.

When complete, Mulgoa Rise will comprise over 600 homes. Many larger homesites will be elevated with views of the Blue Mountains, while oth-ers will be adjacent to the abun-dant greenspace. The commu-nity will have a spacious, open feel, making it the perfect place to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and raise a family.

www.mulgoarise.com.au

Tanya Davies said."We are calling for everyone to sign a letter of objection

to submit to the court". The letter template is available at the RAID website http://orchardhills.info.

"We are also asking for everyone to sign the petition. We need 10,000 signatures on the petition, and the petition will qualify for a full Parliamentary debate" Tanya Davies said.

For more information on how you can get involved, please contact Tanya Davies on 9833 2913 or Mark George on 0418 219 347.

Santa Photos With Your PetsSanta Claus will be

visiting Orchard Hills Veterinary Hos-pital during December to take photos with your pets.

Santa will be here from Thursday 1st December until Friday 23rd De-cember 2011. Photos of your pets are to be taken with Santa from Monday to Friday 5-6pm and on Saturdays 10am-12pm. No appointment is nec-essary for the Santa photos, just drop in and don’t forget to bring your cam-era if you want extra photos.

A gold coin donation to the Guide Dogs for your photo in a Christmas card will be greatly appreciated.

Safety for Your Pets During the Upcoming Festive Season

S n a k e s – The warm-er weather means that snakes are e m e r g i n g from hiber-nation. Be aware that we live in a semi-rural area, and snakes will be about. A snake bite to your pet can be deadly,

so fast veterinary attention is required to administer snake antivenom. Clini-cal signs of snake bite include: weak-ness, collapse, twitching of the mus-cles, vomiting, dilated pupils, and later stages include blood in the urine.

Paralysis Ticks – Ticks are more common in the warmer weather. If you and your pet travel to the coast or beach or lower Blue Mountains, your pet may bring a tick home and then show signs of weakness, gag-ging, vomiting, drooling saliva and paralysis. Tick antiserum is the antidote, and early treatment is advised.

Dangerous food items

– Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Even if you do not feed your dog chocolate, they may have access to it in presents under the tree, Christmas tables, and in kids school bags. Early veterinary attention will ensure your dog vom-its up the offending chocolate which gives your pet a better chance of survival.

- Fatty food – A large fatty meal to your dog or cat can result in a painful debilitating disease called pancreati-tis. Do not feed your pets the fatty skin from the Christmas ham. Your dog will eat anything you offer, so a com-mon rule of thumb is “if you would not eat it, then your pet should not eat it

either”.- Cooked bones – Never feed your

pets cooked bones, as they can cause a gastrointestinal upset and even a perforated bowel, resulting in a painful death.

- Onions – The toxin destroys red blood cells resulting in anemia.

- Grapes and raisins – The toxin damages the kidneys resulting in irre-versible kidney failure and death.

- Macadamia nuts – Results in vomiting and severe gastrointestinal upset.

- Xylitol – a sugar free sweetener which stimulates insulin secretion re-sulting in low blood glucose and even death.
