Masterchef KateCooks Up A Storm
The community of Glenmore Park were last month treated to a tasty, entertaining and thought-provoking evening at Glenmore Park Anglican Church with 2011 Masterchef winner, Kate Bracks. ‘The Masterchef’ attracted up to 300 ‘foodies’, including Penrith Mayor Mark Davies, Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies and Councillor Bernard Bratusa. The evening was superbly coordinated by a wonderful team including local, Michelle Grice.
Guests donated a total of 239 non-perishable food items, which were distributed to Penrith Community Kitchen to help feed those in need. Hosts and resident funny men Steve and Johnno set the stage for a night filled with food, faith and fun. The evening involved a number of Masterchef challenges including a mashed potato making competition, identifying herbs in the herb challenge and a minestrone soup tasting contest.

Youth of GlenmoreGoing to High School and being a teenager
can be both an exciting and terrifying time of life! It’s the age where so many big things are worked out – who we are, who are our real friends, what’s life all about, what does my future have in store.
It can be extremely lonely. It can be stressful. It can also be full of fun and friendships. Such a mixture!
The Bible has many wise things to say to teenagers, as well as to their parents who are trying hard to care for them.
For example, from the book of 1 Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” What wonderful, affirming, positive words of wisdom for all our Youth to be encouraged and live by! When there is so much hopelessness surrounding our Youth today, Jesus offers hope and assurance. Jesus is the one who can transform lives with deep peace, joy and hope, that withstands the pressures, temptations, isolation and anxieties faced by our Youth. How important it is to come to Jesus, learn from him and put him at the very centre of your life. What a difference this makes to absolutely everything!
At GPAC, caring for High Schoolers and helping them get to know Jesus and navigate this crucial part of life, is a big priority! We teach Scripture and run a Christian group at Glenmore Park High School, plus we run our Friday Night Velocity Youth Group each week from 7pm to 9pm for Year 7 to 12, plus meet with them in smaller Year Groups through the week. We also have Night Church on Sundays at 7pm – especially aimed at Youth. Plus, a special highlight is our annual Youth Summit Camp –
Service Times: Sundays @ 8.30 and 10.15am, 5 and 7pm. Plus activities for adults and young people right throughout the week
coming up very soon from Wednesday 10th to Sunday 14th July at Port Hacking. The kids have a fantastic time each year and come back full of enthusiasm to live lives reflecting the Bible verse above – living lives with Jesus at the centre, full of hope and growing in godliness of “speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” Great examples for all of us!
Are you in High School? Do you know a High School Student? Why not take the plunge and come on Friday and Sunday nights and come to our Youth Summit Camp in July – you’ll be surprised to discover how getting to know Jesus really does a make a difference in your life!

Glenmore Park Residents Group NEWSA good meeting in June with the attendance of Ben
Goldfinch & Karen McKeown, two of our South Ward councillors. Thanks for your attendance and interest in the residents of Glenmore Park.
Many things were discussed including the proposed childcare centre & units in the Bangalla Road/Glengarry Drive area, the new bus shelters around the area and the increasing traffic flow into the area.Mention was also made of the excellent maintenance of the Loch and surrounding areas and new line marking in the shopping centre car park.
An issue that was raised a few months ago was the signage in a number of areas for Neighbourhood Safer Areas (NSF). It should be noted that these areas are short term emergency points only.
Every resident needs to have their own evacuation plan in case of emergency. To assist in preparing your own safety evacuation plan go to the Rural Fire Service website http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/ , follow the “Prepare, Act, Survive” link.
Please, visit our website page - Glenmore Park Residents Group - and let us know what concerns you in your area.

Kate Cooks Up a StormContinued from Pg 1... A highlight of the night was definitely when
Kate revealed her passion not only for food, but her faith. Kate was a wonderful guest-speaker who passionately and thought-provokingly spoke of her relationship with God, her Christianity and the importance of family.
Kate’s cooking demonstration tickled the taste buds with a delectable Rich Dark Chocolate Mousse on show. The demo was not complete without a faulty camp stove, which proved to be a light hearted moment.
A gourmet supper of desserts from Kate’s cookbook ‘The Sweet Life’, were on offer along with a gourmet ‘foodie’ show bag, donated by businesses, for all guests that attended. “What a fantastic night. I’m so proud to be able to share my food and faith experiences. It was very humbling”, said Kate.

Floribunda Family FunLast Month Glenmore Park residents were treated to a FREE day of
fun at the Floribunda Family Festival, hosted by Nepean Community & Neighbourhood Services. Some of the action on the day included a jumping castle, reptile show, dance performances, face painting and a FREE BBQ lunch.
There to inform and educate were Orchard Hills Vet, Crystal Clarity & Harmony, Love at First Slice, Glenmore Coffee, Rotary Club of Wallacia-Mulgoa Valley, Aussie Pooch Mobile, Penrith Car Care, Yellow Brick Road Penrith, Lollylicious, The District Gazette, Century 21 Nepean Lower Mountains, Walkabout Reptiles and Dance Action.
There were plenty of giveaways and competitions, needless to say everyone left with a smile on their faces and some with arms full of prizes.

Facebook Page Stirs Up Old Memories Graham Chapman who grew up in Llandilo had no idea the impact
his Facebook page ‘Memories of Penrith’ was going to have on the greater Penrith region and community. Launched in May, it had 10,000 followers in the first week and currently stands at over 15,000 likers. The page became the fastest growing Facebook page in Penrith.
His Facebook page is not only designed to attract attention from locals but allows you to take a walk down memory lane. People are reliving places such as the old mud baths, swimming in the weir, the pulley system at Warragamba Dam and the floods from the past.
Old friendships have been rekindled and many are finding those they had lost contact with through the site. “I have had probably 60 to 70 messages from people who have rekindled old friendships and relationships.” said Graham. Mr Chapman has also started Memories of Blue Mountains. “Like” the page at facebook.com/memoriesofpenrith, and take a trip down memory lane.
I just love these OLD school photos. In this photo 4th, 5th and 6th class are combined at Regentville Public, I wonder where all these kids are now?

Saved? Why do we need saving?I was twelve years old in a yellow blow up dinghy with
my brother John. We had just convinced our parents that we were old enough to do the big paddle across Clovelly Bay, so we packed the dinghy with all of the families food and towels while it was ‘moored’ along the south side. We jumped in and as the family walked inland and around to the northern part of the bay where we loved to hang out, John and I began to paddle across. We weren’t even half way across before we realized we were in deep trouble
and this little dinghy fully loaded was slowly being dragged out to sea. I can’t tell you how stupid we looked, two twelve year-olds jam packed with stuff screaming at the top of our voices ‘Help us Uncle Charlie, Help us uncle Charlie’. Before we knew it our uncle Charlie who had already made his way to the other side of the bay, heard our call and saved us from certain death.(Well maybe not death but at least further humiliation). The point is we didn’t know we needed saving till we realized we were in trouble and many of us reading this column today may be in the same boat (excuse the pun). Some of us just don’t realize that we are in deep water with God although life seems like ‘smooth sailing’ (there’s another). I thought therefore I could help you see through highlighting some Bible passages, whether you might realize how much you need saving:
Creation God made the world and everything in it and it is obvious to us all that He is
the Lord. Therefore we can’t say that we didn’t know there is a God and the Bible says we have no excuses for why we ignore him. Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-- his eternal power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
He also gave man the great honor of looking after God’s world:Genesis 1:28 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Rebellion and JudgmentIgnoring God’s rule over your life is what sin is. You may be the best parent,
husband, wife, pay your taxes do good to others but if God is not on your radar, you are not on His… you are way out at sea!
Now some blatantly reject God by denying His existence, we can call them the ’God is dead’ group.
Others know there is a God but do not treat Him as God. You can call them the ’God in a box’ people. They only call out to God when things go wrong or times are tough, shooting off prayers for God to change their circumstances, or getting
CHRIST CHURCH @ THE COLLEGERev Mark Bonnici • Christ Church @ The College • www.christchurchatthecollege.com.au
angry at God because things don’t go their way. The last group to dishonor God is the ’religious’ group. They look squeaky
clean on the outside, they might read the Bible for instance, go to church, pray and so on, but their hearts are far from God. (I had a scripture student who was like this once, he had his Bible opened in class every day, answered all my questions and showed me that he loved God on the surface. I found out he had a Harry Potter book cradled inside his Bible. He had all the show, but no heart for God).
Our sin cuts us off from the source of life (God), so eternal death is the natural consequence of rejecting him and God’s judgment remains vented towards those who reject or ignore his rule over their lives.
Romans 1:21-23 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him...
The great turning point of Mercy and Grace - Jesus’ DeathJesus obeyed God fully and lived the life we ought to have lived. He never
deviated from God’s ways and therefore was without sin. Being divine He was God and being born of woman he was man. The death Jesus died on the cross was the punishment necessary to satisfy God’s anger towards us. God punished Jesus instead of us. On the cross Jesus made amends for our sin, making us right with God the Father. The sinless one who did not deserve death died as a sacrifice in the place of those who did deserve death, us. God mercifully pardons us because the penalty was already dealt out to Jesus. This is what grace is.
Romans 3:22-25 22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.
Forgiveness Jesus’ death pays for past, present and future sins so that those who believe in
him are under no condemnation from God. When He sees us he sees no more sin and no more rebellion. Even when we continue to struggle to obey God he does not count our sin against us any longer, because Jesus has paid the price once and for all who believe Him. We now have peace with God eternally.
A DecisionWhen we arrived back on land after our ordeal, John and I were so thankful
to our uncle Charlie, because we knew we couldn’t get back without him. Friend, God wants you back and he has gone to great lengths to restore your relationship with Him. He sent Jesus to swim the waters of death so that he could pull you back to shore and give you peace and assurance. It only takes a second to be saved
Bless you, Rev Mark Bonnici

WYD 2013: Rio, here we come! Just five years ago, in 2008, Sydney played host
to World Youth Day (WYD), the Catholic Church’s great festival of praise and worship which is conducted internationally, on average, every three years. Sydney was honoured to be the first host in Oceania of WYD and the event was a roaring success. Young pilgrims came from all over the world, (despite Australia’s unfavourable location
for those coming from everywhere except New Zealand or south-east Asia!), to praise God, to sing, dance and pray, to deepen their knowledge of their faith and to forge enduring friendships with other young people who share their Catholic faith. Prior to the event, there was the expected cynicism expressed by many in the media but once the pilgrims started to pour in and create an atmosphere in our city of pure, unadulterated joy and happiness, the tide turned and most people were positive about the experience.
Based on World Youth Days before and since 2008, Sydney’s event was quite small. The final Mass, held at Randwick Racecourse, was attended by an estimated 400,000 people (of which I was one!) Compare this to the 1.5 million estimated to have attended the final Mass in Madrid in 2011, the 2 million in Rome in 2000 or the huge 5 million in Manila in 1995 and you get some idea of the scale of these gatherings. They are not for the faint-hearted!
World Youth Day was the brainchild of the late Pope John Paul II who saw a need for a vehicle for young people to reconnect with their faith. WYD occurs every year within each diocese (such as our own Diocese of Parramatta) on Palm Sunday, the Sunday prior to Easter Sunday, but happens at an international location on average every three years. Apart from Europe, Asia and Australia, WYDs have occurred in both North and South America. The first was held in the mid 1990s.
The schedule for WYD follows a familiar pattern each time. Basically, there is an opening Mass presided over by the local Bishop on the Tuesday, then three days in which the young pilgrims attend morning sessions to learn more about their faith and then gather for various artistic and musical performances and prayer sessions at a variety of locations
in the host city in the afternoons and evenings. On the second last day, Saturday, the pilgrims walk to the site where the final Mass is to be held and will spend the evening and night in prayer and contemplation with the Pope who usually arrives a couple of days prior to this. World Youth Day concludes with the final Mass on Sunday morning, presided over by the Pope. Hundreds of bishops, priests, deacons and hundreds of thousands of pilgrims worship together at this Mass which marks the highlight and the conclusion of this great festival.
As you can see, World Youth “Day” is actually a week-long festival. Later this month, millions of pilgrims will make their way to Rio de Janiero in Brazil for WYD. I am very fortunate to being as a chaplain and there will be six parishioners from our church here in Glenmore Park making their way there too. Much fundraising has gone on to assist these pilgrims in their efforts to get there, to say nothing of a great deal of prayerful support. I look forward to sharing with you our experiences in a future column.Blessings and prayers, Fr Robert Riedling
Luke Priddis Foundation Did you know that as many as 1 in 88 people are on the Autism
Spectrum? While many people with Autism are able to live a relatively
“normal” life, for many life is a daily struggle. Imagine having a child who doesn’t know how to express love,
who doesn’t hug you and who becomes violently ill when exposed to new smells or bright lights. Imagine a child who needs constant supervision so they don’t hurt themselves, run away or hurt others.
There is no cure. But there is hope.Early intervention, like the programs run by the Luke Priddis

No Deposit? No Worries! The biggest hurdle for most people stopping them from purchasing a home is the deposit.
Trying to save up while paying the ever increasing rent can seem impossible. Traditional mortgages allow you to borrow up to 95% of the value of a home, but you
need to show the bank that you have at least 5% ‘Genuine’ savings plus enough funds to cover Stamp Duty, Mortgage Insurance, Legal Fees and other costs. On a $450,000 purchase this can easily add up to over $40,000!
But do not despair, there are a number of products available from a range of banks and lenders that can reduce and even eliminate the need for a deposit, meaning that you can jump into the property market now and escape the rent trap. Give us a call to discuss your options. Home ownership may be closer than you think.

I did it my Way…Symbolic and real losses are the psychological basis of many
depressions. Old age represents a period of life where losses are cumulative and frequent. Many elderly people cope well with losses such as the death of their partner, siblings, friends and pets, and the loss of independence, health, home and lifestyle. However, for other people, these losses can trigger the development of depressive symptoms.*
One emotion we often associate with old age is regret– the image of an elderly person feeling regretful over opportunities forever missed. Regret is a negative emotion that may be adaptive if it motivates action to learn from mistakes and become a smarter or better person. However, getting stuck in regret where there is nothing that can be done to change the situation can be damaging to mind and body. If we can teach depressed, older people to think like their more optimistic peers, we may be able to help them let go of regret. For the elderly, the developmental task may be to learn to live with and accept the life they have had, focusing on the positive aspects and forgiving themselves both for mistakes made and opportunities not taken. Feeling that one has done the best one can, given the circumstances and letting go of regret can lead to self-compassion and peace. Healthy aging is a task that we all must embrace as we move into the autumn of our lives. So at the end of our lives we can sing with Frank Sinatra: ‘Regrets…I’ve had a few but then again too few to mention.’

AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT! KEEPING FIT WITH Rj Kick start your day with a Green Smoothie!
Green smoothies are all the rage these days. They are a delicious blend of fruit and vegetables and are great for assisting with weight loss and overall health. Full of antioxidants, adding just one glass to your diet each day, can help you to achieve your daily recommended intake of fruit and vegetables.
There are heaps of great recipes out there but to start you off, try blending 2-3 cups green vegetables (spinach, kale), 2-3 serves of fruit (pineapple, banana, grapes), a squeeze of lemon, water and ice. For a smoothie consistency you may need to blend several times or invest in a heavy duty blender. Also, try experimenting with your own combinations.
Green smoothies are filled with nutrients and packed with vitamins and minerals. Including them in your daily diet can lead to a clearer mind, smoother skin, more energy and less cravings for junk food. Kick start your day with a green smoothie today!

r Winny & Alex have got Talent!
Sparks Fly!Local resident Alex Robinson and
girlfriend Winny are set to send sparks flying as they take to the stage on Australia’s Got Talent, due to be screened later this year on Channel 9.
Winny is set to entertain the audience by singing Taylor Swift’s “Sparks Fly” while executing amazing, high flying cheerleading stunts while Alex, a former Penrith High School student, dazzles viewers performing break-dancing and backflips throughout their routine.
The pair’s first audition received excellent praise from the directors of the program with special mention of Winny’s song choice and the entire performance. The pair was invited to perform their routine in front of judges Gerri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Timomatic, Kyle Sandilands and Dawn French at the Riverside Theatre (Parramatta) last month. The advertisement for the live show quoted, “be one of the first to see the SPARK’S FLY”, referencing the duo’s spectacular act.
Be sure to tune-in later this year and offer your support for our local talent!

PAWS A WHILEwith Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital
Staff Continuing EducationEven though the
veterinarians and nurses at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital have studied and completed their relevant courses, there is always something new to learn. New products, drugs and procedures are being discovered all the time and we need to keep up to date with the current technology. For example, Hills Pet Nutrition is releasing a new veterinary only product range for cats and dogs.
We allocate time each week where company representatives visit our clinic to provide on site training on new products. We also attend seminars and conferences, participate in webinars and complete many online refresher courses.
Belinda attended the Veterinary Nurses Conference in Melbourne recently and came back with many new ideas and different ways of doing things to ensure the smooth running of the veterinary hospital.
Come and ask us a question, if we do not know the answer, we will find it for you.
One of my favourite quotes is ‘If you learn one new thing a day, then it is a good day!’.

There are two base emotions – fear and love. How do fear and love play out in your parenting?
Fear-based parenting views the child as bad, annoying, or time-consuming. Love-based parenting views your child as worthy of your love, time, and attention. Fear-based parenting views the child as “manipulative and attention seeking”. Love-based parenting recognises that all behaviour arises from a need (physical, emotional, intellectual), and sometimes behaviour is a way of attempting to make a connection with the parent.
Fear-based parenting emphasises the need for discipline and punishment. Love-based parenting emphasises the need for guidance, education, and relationship. Fear-based parenting seeks revenge or payback for a child’s behaviour. Love-based parenting seeks belonging and connection for the child.
Fear-based parenting notices “bad” behaviour. Love-based parenting notices mistaken behaviour (Dan Gartrell).
When we move from fear-based parenting to love-based parenting we move from ME (parent’s agenda) to WE (parent and child together). It is no longer us versus them.
In fear-based parenting the parent reacts. In love-based parenting the parent responds. In times of high emotion, the parent remembers to Stop-Breathe-Think-then Do.
In fear-based parenting the child’s feelings are dismissed. In love-based parenting the child’s feelings are acknowledged.
In fear-based parenting, the parent persuades, nags, begs, yells, and hits. In love-based parenting, the parent employs the “no talking, no emotion” strategy in dealing with mistaken behaviour (Dr Thomas Phelan). Fear-based parenting focuses on the person doing the wrong thing. Love-based parenting focuses on the behaviour.
Through fear-based parenting, the child experiences shame, which can last a lifetime. Through love-based parenting, the child experiences guilt, which is short-term (Dr Daniel A Hughes). In fear-based parenting, the parent feels shame, blame, and guilt. In love-based parenting, the parent tries to be real (Scott Noelle http://www.enjoyparenting.com/daily-groove/be-real).
In fear-based parenting, the parent burdens the child with his or her own feelings, demands an insincere apology, and does not apologise for his or her own inappropriate behaviour. In love-based parenting, the parent talks about OK/not OK for self and child, seeks relationship repair, admits wrongdoing, and role models saying sorry.
Fear-based parenting values the child for what he or she does. Love-based parenting values the child for who she or he is.
In fear-based parenting, the parent is operating at a head level. In love-based parenting, the parent is operating from a heart level.
“How do your words fall on your child’s heart?” (Lisa Nichols).

Free Holiday Fun At Glenmore Park Town CentreIt is July school holiday time, and the only place the kids will want to be
will be Glenmore Park Town Centre’s FREE school holiday activities! Glenmore Park Town Centre has organised a variety of children’s entertainment to keep the kids active and creative over what can seem like a very long time between school bells.
The second week will be a sweet deal, Monday (8 July), Wednesday (10 July) and Friday (12 July) from 10 am to 2pm, kids will be able to decorate and then take home their own iced fingers buns courtesy of Bakers Delight Glenmore Park. Let’s see how many actually make it out of the centre and not into tummies! Glenmore Park Town Centre Marketing Manager, Ms Natalie Philp, couldn’t wait for the school holidays to start and welcoming children of all ages to the Centre.
“This school holiday period, we’ve decided to let children explore their inner painter and inner chef, with creative drawing and decorating iced finger buns. You never know, there could be a budding Masterchef winner out there. Best thing is, this is all FREE”.
Ms Philp added, “however, please note in the interest of child safety, all children must be accompanied by an adult, guardian or responsible member of the family (ie older teenager) in order to participate.”Glenmore Park Town Centre is located at 1 Town Terrace, Glenmore Park. For further information, visit Glenmore Park Town Centre’s Facebook page.
Success is simply failure turned on it’s head!
