VO: The symbol that many of us now call a hashtag comes from the Latin sign for “pound by weight…”

VO: In the early 1900s, the expression hash mark was used by military officers to refer to a stripe worn on the sleeve indicating how many

VO: The word hash was most likely an alteration of the word hatch, a verb that means “to mark with parallel lines.”
