BRADENTON, Fla. September 26, 2014 – ArtCenter Manatee turns up the heat in their pottery studio with the addition of a new high fire gas kiln. Our new 30 cubic foot, high fire, cone 10 reduction gas kiln with industrial burners expands our already robust Pottery Department. The new kiln offers more volume, size and glazing opportunities for students. Bricks for the kiln were generously donated by the Longboat Key Art Center, lovingly moved by ArtCenter Manatee volunteers and funded by the ArtCenter, private donations and pottery sale fundraisers! While primarily used for cone 10 reduction firing, the new gas kiln accommodates a full range of specialized oxidation firing. At a capacity of 30 cubic feet, the kiln can hold pottery pieces as tall as 4 feet. The addition frees up the two electric kilns on site for bisque and glaze firings, increasing volume while decreasing the time to a finished piece of art! ArtCenter Manatee Pottery Department With all of the tools of a professional ceramics studio available to our students, the Pottery Department at ArtCenter Manatee is the hub of clay-art instruction in Manatee County. Our highly qualified pottery instructors, professional artists themselves, challenge students from beginners to advanced level competence. The robust program includes exciting classes in wheel throwing, sculpture, raku and more.
