Rockfield Elementary School students joined the official ground breaking of anaddition to the school Nov. 24.

"Let's let loose with a little energy," dis-trict Administrator Jeff Holmes said to stu-dents. Students from all classes at theschool were lined along the perimeter of thefuture addition, which will be two storiesand have space for up to eight classrooms."I know you're all excited about this."

"Yeah," the students said in response.

"Is that all you've got?" Holmesreplied.

"YEAH," the students said.Holmes then asked the students "do

you feel good about today?" seeking amore boisterous response. The studentsreplied with a "YEAH" that lasted just overthree seconds.

The school was built in 1957, withupgrades in 1966, 1978 and 1991. The dis-trict had been considering expansionoptions at the school over the past year.

    Principal Dana Croatt then explained

Nov. 11 was a very special dayfor Dave and Lisa Morbeck, the owners of the ComForCareHome Care business inJackson.

    ComForCare provides in-home non-medical

assistance with a focus of keeping individu-

als living independently but safely within

their own homes. ComForCare is a nation-

wide franchise operation, and the Morbeck’s

office is located at 4466 Highway P, Suite

    205 in Jackson.

The business had been nominated for the

West Bend Chamber of Commerce mediumsized Business of the Year. During a recent

interview, Dave Morbeck noted that during

the dinner veterans were recognized, and

both he and Lisa are veterans -- Lisa served

four years in the US Navy while Dave

served eight years in the US Marine Corps.

Dave said it was "pretty neat" to be recog-

nized as veterans at the event.

The business was also a finalist for the Small

sized Business of the Year award in 2014.

Upon learning they had been nominated for

medium sized Business of the Year, they

completed a questionnaire on the size of thebusiness and the number of employees.

While ComForCare was a finalist for this

year's award, winning the award was a new

    experience.

"It was very much a surprise," Dave said.

He noted that there were seven businesses

    also nominated for the award.

"To be chosen over these other companies

was a real honor," he said.

In a letter posted on the company's Facebook

page, Dave and Lisa stated: "We are incred-ibly humbled and honored to have been

    selected for this award."

In the letter, the Morbecks noted the com-

    munity efforts ComForCare is involved

with, including the West Bend Senior Center

Board, many senior and health fairs, the

    Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End

    Alzheimer’s planning committee, The

American Cancer Society Relay for Life

    planning committee, the Greater Jackson

Business Alliance, and the West Bend,

    Hartford, and Mequon-Thiensville

Chambers of Commerce, just to name a few.Dave also hosts the monthly radio show,

"Living the Comfortable Life" on WTKM

    104.9 FM.

"Not only is all this involvement good forour business, it requires hard work.

However, we know our efforts are helping

individuals within in our community," the

    Morbecks said in the letter.

While the Morbecks are thrilled with the

recent honor for ComForCare, the focus

remains looking forward and providing the

    best service for their customers.

"We can't rest on our laurels," Dave

    Morbeck said.

The business was started by the Morbecks in

2012 and now employs more than 70

employees and serves more than 100 clients.

Dave said "to receive that award was valida-

tion for the hard work we put into it."

He added what made it possible for the busi-ness to grow.

"It's all about customer service," he said.

(L-R) Craig Farrell (West Bend Chamber Executive Director), Jessica Wichowski (ComForCare Home

Care-Business Development Coordinator) Daveand Lisa Morbeck (ComForCare Home Care – Owners).

    BOYS BASKETBALL

    BY THOMAS J.MCKILLENMANAGING EDITOR

The Germantown boys basketball team took thelead against Brookfield Central early in the first half Dec. 1 and never conceded it on the way to a 77-62win in the season opener for the Warhawks.

A three-point basket by Tyler Behrendt at the15:23 mark of the first half broke a 2-2 tie. Centralstayed close to Germantown and a three-point basketby Andrew Wojcik cut the Germantown lead to 24-23with 7:10 left before halftime. After a time out,Juwan McCloud answered for Germantown with athree-point basket as Germantown went on a 9-2 runand entered halftime with a 43-33 lead.

Central stayed within 10 points of Germantownearly in the second half and a layup by Cole Lau cutGermantown's lead to 55-51 with 9:37 remaining. Buta layup by McCloud sparked an 11-1 run that gaveGermantown a 64-52 lead as Max Keefe converted twofree throws with 6:16 remaining. Germantown thenbuilt on the lead for the rest of the game. McCloud ledall scorers with 26 points.

It was the first game for Interim Head Coach MarkAdams, who was head coach at Brookfield Central

before taking an assistant coaching position withGermantown last year. Adams was named interimhead coach of Germantown over the summer after forthis season Steve Showalter accepted an assistantcoach position at Lindenwood University in Missouri.

"I didn't know what it was going to be like. Iwas starting getting a bit apprehensive about it.Certainly wanted to have a game, because weneeded a game after two weeks of pounding oneach other. It wasn't a problem for the guys atall," Adams said of returning to Central. "It was

a little strange coming back and being on theother side."

Adams said Germatown played hard andweathered several comeback attempts by theLancers.

"Perfect example of how we're going to havea target on our back no matter where we go,"Adams said.

Adams said with five minutes to go the teamtook advantage of its post players for severalscoring opportunities to expand on the lead.

He added that the strength of theGermantown team is a "next play mentality" inwhich they don't let much bother them. He saidwhen a called a time out to tell the team to takeadvantage of the post, "they were very receptiveto that."

In addition, the team sought to keep the

pace steady to open scoring chances fromrebounds to the other side of the court.

"We've got a starting point, this is it. Nowwe've just got to work to get better," Adamsadded.

Menomonee Falls continued its rallyand took a 25-24 lead at the 12:57 markof the second half after Alyssa Marks con-verted two free throws. But Andersonresponded with a three-point basket onthe other end as Muskego scored seven

"They fought so hard. We'll get overthe hump," Amundson said afterward."I'm excited for the kids."

Amundson said the team learned fromplaying a physical game against Muskego, which will help them in the long run.

This is the second year of theBlessings in a Backpack charity tourna-ment, which benefits an organizationwhich assists children from low incomefamilies by providing food in a backpackfor the weekends. Amundson said that

last year approximately $1,000 wasdonated to the organization from thetournament, while the school's BoosterClub also contributed to the organization.

This year's tournament was held thesame weekend as the Brookfield CentralThanksgiving Shootout, which drew sev-eral top teams from Wisconsin andIllinois. For the Menomonee Falls tourna-ment, Amundson said the Falls organizerswere seeking teams where the primaryscoring was coming from younger playerswho were returning from last season.
