your tree simple by choosing one or two colors for the tree's
dcor.
For kids, decorate with their favorite color. Make tissue-
paper flowers to place on your tree. All you need is tissue
paper and pipe cleaners.
For a tree that will help you remember the good times, hang
mementos that you've collected throughout the year instead
of traditional, often expensive ornaments. Choose knick-
knacks from family vacations, party pictures, favors from
weddings or showers, or kids' arts and crafts projects. Hang
holiday greeting cards from family and friends on your tree.
To turn these trinkets into ornaments, glue or attach ornament
hangers to each item. Your tree will be a reminder of the fun
shared throughout the year.
For a more international feel, use inexpensive wrapping
paper to make origami cranes -- symbols of peace. Paper
birds of all sizes will look beautiful on your tree and can be
fun project for the whole family.

The art and family and consumer edu-cation departments at Kennedy MiddleSchool teamed up to stage the ninth annu-al Empty Bowls evening at the schoolNov. 11.
Teachers Dawn Christensen and AnnBauer de Ruiz said that approximately
100 bowls were created by eighth gradestudents in the schools multi-media classesfor the event.
Christensen explained that the bowlsare a reminder that there will always behunger in the world.
The soup is a reminder that there ishungry people in the world and were serv-ing a simple meal for people that are hun-gry, but we want people to remember thatthere are always hungry people in theworld,Christensen said.
Teacher Stephanie Steinert said fivetypes of soup from the family and con-sumer education classes at the schoolswere made for attendees to purchase.Minestrone, loaded baked potato, chickenpot pie, chicken tortilla and tomato tortelli-
ni created by approximately 120 eighth
grade students were served during theevent. Several teachers volunteered withsetup.
Christensen said this is the 10th yearthe Empty Bowls event is being held atKennedy Middle School. Funds raisedfrom the event support the St. Gabriel/St.
Boniface Food Pantry while a few fundsare also provided to the Food forToday/Hunger Task Force program.
The first Empty Bowls program washeld at a Michigan h igh school in 1990 asway to help families who were experienc-ing food insecurity. Art classes at thatschool created the bowls and then soldsoup as a fund raiser. Kennedy MiddleSchool and Christensen heard about theEmpty Bowls project and was inspired toinvolve her students in an multi-media artclass. That led to the first Empty Bowlsevent being held at the school in 2004.
Christensen added that the sale ofbowls would remain open for a few daysafter the event for people who couldntattend that evening.

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Dear Dr. Winter, I have spaces between my teethand I have always been self-conscious about my smile.I am a college student so I am financially limited. Is
there anything that you can do to help me with myproblem?Dear John, it can often be intimidating to go to a
dentist when you dont know all of your options but wewould love to see you for a no charge consultation. Ifyour teeth are in a good position but you simply havesome spacing we may be able to use white fillingscalled bonding to close your gaps. This may all bedone in one or two visits and can often last 5-7 years orlonger. Then when you are in a different economicposition we could replace the bonding with porcelainveneers. These veneers are thin white porcelain piecesthat cover your tooth and can often change the shapeand color of your teeth resulting in a much prettiersmile.
If you have a jaw that is too large for the size teethyou have, then perhaps crowns may be needed to tryand improve the overall height and width of your teeth.Again transitional bonding can help determine whatthe best solution is for your situation. If orthodonticscould solve your problem this also can be discussed. Itis always better to move teeth to close spaces then toadd materials that will eventually require replacementassuming your tooth size is acceptable.
Dear Dr. Winter, could you tell me about thedifference between Snap-On Dentures and mini-implant dentures? I am limited financially but I cantstand my dentures! They pop up during eating andtalking all the time and I need some way to stabilizethem. I read the testimonials on your website andwatched all the videos and I am convinced theseoptions will help me.
Dear Peter, regular sized implants are alwayspreferable to mini-implants. That is because there is agreater surface area on larger implants and they holdon to your bone better. Also traditional implants thatare 3.0 mm in diameter or larger can have the tops orchimneys changed in order to UPGRADE to a fixedbridge in the future. Mini-implants do not have anupgrade path. That means that if you decide to investmore time, effort and money in the future to have teeth
that stay in all the time, the mini-implants wouldneed to be removed and larger implants placed.
The article on Upgradeable Dentistryexplains this concept on the website:www.hamptondentalassociates.comwhere you cansee that any implants will improve your situation! The ability to use larger implants will allow us to uselarger attachments that have the ability to hold yourprosthesis even firmer then the mini-implants. Bothchoices will be way better then using dentureadhesive! I invite you and our readership to come infor a free consultation to see if Snap-On dentures orMini-Implant dentures are right for you! My goal asa dentist is to help everyone to get rid of theirdentures and move back to fixed teeth. These twochoices are wonderful ways to begin that journey.
Sincerely,Richard B. Winter D.D.S. M.A.G.D. D.I.C.O.I. D.A.B.O.I./I.D.

Tip of the Week:Theres no place like home The best strategy, of course, is to keep your petsindoors during inclimate weather. Outdoor cats are especially susceptible to hazards like frostbite, getting lost, or being exposed to diseases. If you dont want to be outside, your pet probably doesntwant to be, either.
