    CALL FOR APPLICATIONSAFRICAN YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE TO RIO+20

    The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) will take place in Rio deJaneiro from 20-22 June 2012. We are happy to announce two funded places for African youthrepresentation at Rio+20, thanks to GIZon behalf of the German Federal Ministry for EconomicCooperation and Development (BMZ).Selected youth representatives will receive full funding to cover return ticket to Rio de Janeiro,accommodation and daily subsistence from 10 June until 22 June 2012 in order to take part in thefollowing Rio+20 events:

    Youth Blast: 10-12 June 20123rd Preparatory Committee: 13-15 June 2012Four Days of Dialogue on Sustainable Development: 16-19 June 2012Rio+ 20 Conference: 20-22 June 2012

    While the Brazilian Consular officers reserve the final authority to issue visas, the Major Group forChildren and Youth leadership will, as much as possible, assist selected participants who require visato enter Brazil.

    Supported participants will be demanded to:

    1. participate actively and regularly in all the events listed above (mandatory stay in Riobetween 10-22 June 2012 as well as daily conference attendance)

    2. participate in any pre-Rio+20 youth activity that may be organised, including onlineconsultations, forums, working groups (for example on the website of the major group forchildren and youth, the rio+twenties website or regional networks)

    3. participate in the meetings of the Major Group for Youth and Children during Rio+204. collaborate with the German delegation (especially the German Youth delegates) and GIZ

    before, during and after Rio+20 on sustainable development activities

    5. write a 4-5 pages report covering youth activities and engagements at RIO+20; alsoreviewing the personal contributions to these activities

    6. undertake briefing events before and after RIO+20 for youth and youth-servingorganisations in his/her country as a means of knowledge sharing on sustainabledevelopment issues and CSD.

    The following selection criteria will be used:

    age up to 26 years (born after 22 June 1986) gender balance (preferably 1 male and 1 female) geographical preference (only applicants with African nationality will be considered) applicants should have been engaged in a youth organisation since at least two years, anddemonstrate support from his/her organisation in the application the main focus of the applicants engagements should be within the field of sustainable

    development

    good English skills

    Interested persons who meet the above criteria should complete the application form below.

    Note:Please note that young people who do not meet the above criteria, or who may not emergesuccessfully from this funding process are encouraged to seek alternative support to be able to attendRio+20. The Major Group for Children and Youth leadership will do its best to facilitate accreditationfor all youth applicants, as much as possible. Please keep checkingour website as well as the official
