It’s unacceptable. We weren’taggressive all night, and that’s going to catch up to you. They jumped on us early, like a home team should, and they finished us off.

“With such an inexperienced team, I was a little worried about how theywould respond to going on the road for the first time, but that shouldn’t be anexcuse. We’ve got to get our players to understand what it takes to go on theroad and get a win.”

Elon scored the first 11 points of the game and built a 25-11 advantage witheight minutes to play in the half. The Panthers managed to pull within 28-22 onTrae Goldston’s three-pointer with 2:53 left in the half but Elon got a pair of freethrows from Watson to take a 34-24 lead into the intermission.Goldston added nine points for Panthers, while Norman Mitchell came off thebench to score seven.

State managed to regain the lead briefly at 58-57 on DevenDickerson’s putback with 7:38 left, but Steven Sexton answered withback-to-back three-pointers as Coastal established a 62-57 lead with5:22 to play. The Chanticleers made 11 of 14 free throws down thestretch, including a pair of three-point plays, to close out the win.

“We made shots in the first half because we worked hard on offenseto get good shots, but then we lost our intensity in the second half,” saidGeorgia State head coach Rod Barnes, who saw his squad shoot 54percent and make eight of 13 threes in the first half. “The moreaggressive team in the second half won the game.”State committed only 12 turnovers for the game, but they came at crucialtimes during Coastal’s second-half comeback , leading to 20 points forthe Chanticleers.

“We had some very untimely turnovers against their pressure in thesecond half,” said Barnes. “It’s a very disappointing loss because weworked on that press all week in practice. We did a good job handling itin the first half but obviously not in the second half. We let a game getaway that we should have won.”

Leonard Mendez scored points for the Panthers, while Rashad Chasehad eight points and nine rebounds.
