Letter from the Georgetown PrepLacrosse Boosters
Dear Friends of Prep Lacrosse,
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2011 version of Georgetown Prep lacrosse, our 24th lacrosse season as a member of the Interstate Athletic Conference!
Under the extraordinary leadership of head coach Kevin Giblin and his amazing staff of dedicated assistant coaches, Prep has established itself as one of our Nation’s premier lacrosse programs. This past decade alone, Prep has won or shared six IAC championships (including six of the last eight), compiled an overall record of 205 wins against only 33 losses, been ranked nationally every year but one, and has won outright two national championships. The hard work and dedication of our coaches, players, families and fans has fostered a contagious winning tradition that epitomizes Georgetown Prep lacrosse. See more about George-town Prep lacrosse’s performance over the last decade in a featured article later in the Program.
At Prep we strongly believe that the lessons learned on the athletic fi eld will be carried over into the student-athlete’s daily life. We expect our student-athletes to represent themselves as champions in the classroom, on the fi eld, and in life. We have a tremendous opportunity and challenge to develop an athletic program that focuses on the learning and building of character. Our student-athletes are instilled with the moral values and priorities that are incorporated within a Jesuit education. Our school, and the lacrosse program, is fo-cused on forming men of competence, conscience, courage and compassion; men of faith, men for others.
High school athletics are uniquely suited to impart positive life skills in both participants and spectators. Whether engaged in the contest or watching from the sidelines, we ask you to remain positive and sports-manlike. Please respect all visiting teams and offi cials. Georgetown Prep Lacrosse enjoys tremendous support from our parents, students, and entire community. On behalf of the Prep lacrosse, the LaxBoosters extend our thanks and appreciation to all the families, alumni, and friends of Prep lacrosse for their energy and support, as we continue the Ignatian mission of educating our young men in mind, body and spirit.
Sincerely,
Georgetown Prep LaxBoosters

Georgetown Prep Lacrosse1988 - 2010
The First Dozen Years
The first dozen years of Georgetown Prep lacrosse began to establish the fundamentals that are obvi-ous in today’s teams; patient offense, swarming defense and outstanding lacrosse IQ. The first dozen years produced an All-Met Player of the year, 26 total All-Met selections, and a coach of the year award. However, the first dozen years did not produce a win against Landon, or an IAC title. Then came the 2000’s.
The Decade of Dominance
In the 2000’s, finally everything came together. Georgetown Prep lacrosse, under the tutelage of Kevin Giblin, Mike Kubik, Brendon Kelly and all the terrific coaches, became a national powerhouse. During the decade, Prep won or shared six IAC Championships (including six of the last eight), went 63-13 against IAC opponents, went 205-33 overall, was ranked in the top 20 every year but one, and pro-duced two national championships (in 2003 and 2006). Prep ended Landon’s ridiculous “Streak” and became the year-in and year-out favorite to beat Landon and win the IAC. This decade produced five All-Met Players of the Year, 55 total All-Met selections and numerous coaches of the year awards and all-Maryland and all-American players. Truly, “a Decade of Dominance.”
The Georgetown Prep lacrosse program has won 353 games while losing only 74 (83%). Since 1998, Georgetown Prep has ended every season except one ranked among the top 25 teams in the Nation. Since the Washington Post began reporting such statistics, Georgetown Prep lacrosse program has produced six Washington Post All-Met players of the year and over 75 Washington Post All-Met selections.

The “Mud Game”May 13, 1998
Landon Remains On Top; Landon 5, Georgetown Prep 4The Landon School boys lacrosse legend rolled on yesterday, but the Bears’ rivalry with Georgetown Prep lost none of its traditional drama. For the second straight season, visiting No. 1 Landon and No. 2 Georgetown Prep entered their only meeting of the season as the top two ranked teams in the Washington area and with the Interstate Athletic Conference title on the line. For the second straight year, Landon won on a goal in the final minute of regulation. Yesterday, it was a score by senior T.J. Harker with seven seconds left that gave the Bethesda school a 5-4 victory and its 18th straight IAC championship before about 1,200 umbrella-toting fans in Rockville. Landon improved to 14-3, 6-0 in the league. Georgetown Prep fell to 16-3, 4-2. The IAC declares its regular season winner the league champion.
“I figured there was about a minute or so left, but I had no idea it was only seven seconds,” Harker said. The Georgetown Prep game clock was not working because of the steady, chilly rain that fell through-out the game. “The tradition helps us a ton. It lurks on your mind, and Prep lurks on your mind from the beginning of the year.” With time winding down and Landon Coach Rob Bordley screaming for his team to run a set play, senior David Taylor scooped up a ground ball, evaded two defenders in the corner and passed it to Harker. Harker slipped a shot inside the near post that Little Hoya junior C.J. Kemp was guarding and touched off a wild, muddy celebration among the Bears players and fans.
“I feel very fortunate to get out of here with a win,” said Bordley, whose players did not let him escape their postgame mudslides. “They had a very good game plan and executed it. We looked horrible on the last possession. We never ran the play we meant to run -- it was just kind of a freelance goal.”
The Little Hoyas took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, but Landon tied it at 2 by halftime. Georgetown Prep went ahead 4-3 with 7 minutes 43 seconds left. Georgetown Prep never has beaten Landon, its Montgomery County private school rival, in the 11 seasons that Prep has fielded a lacrosse team. Over the past five years, however, the games have been intense.
“Honestly, this is not a total disappointment to me,” said Georgetown Prep senior Andrew Toussaint. “We returned just three seniors this year and still had a great season. It does kind of feel like something is against us, but one year it will happen, I guess.”
