Geneva Main tourist attractions Geneva is the second most populous city in Switzerland and it’s an incredible diverse city. The Canton has a great cultural life: it is the European city which spends most of its budget on culture (over 20%). The Jet d’eau The lakeshore’s star attraction is the water jet. The water jet is one of the city’s most famous landmarks. It is also one of the biggest fountains in the world. The flower clock and the parks Since 1955 the flower clock has been telling time in Geneva. This attraction is a symbol of the renewed Swiss clock and watches industry. In the city there are more than 50 parks and green areas. The Jardins Anglais (English Garden) is an attractive park located next to the lake. It’s a nice place to take a break and see the beautiful views of the lake and the cityscape.

The palais des Nations, ONUGeneva is home of 22 international organization and 250 non-governmental organizations. The international committee of the Red Cross and the UN are also located here. At the entrance of the ONU it is possible to see a symbolic monument: all the foreign country flags flowing together in the wind.

Carouge and its Bohemian atmosphere

Carouge is an ancient market town and it’s located across the River Arve. The first tram in Switzerland was set up on the line Carouge - Place Neuve, which is the oldest section of Europe still in operation.In this trendy atmosphere you can spend hours strolling along the streets and window shopping in its galleries and boutiques.

We can see a decrease of tourist arrivals in the Canton of Geneva from 2,88 millions in 2008 to 2,66 millions in 2009.

Market predictions By 2020 the number of travelers worldwide will doubled!Based on a statistic of the WTO, by 2020 the main receiving region will be Europe (717 million tourists), followed by East Asia ( 397 million), Americas (282 million), Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

Geneva has adopted a concept of Tourism called "Vision 2015", which was developped by Geneva Tourism and the Foundation for Tourism with the collaboration of the Tourism Office

Congress (GT & Bc). This is an action plan that contains more than 250 proposals and it aims to improve the tourism market in the Canton. One of the action plan is to enhance the collaboration between the main actors dealing with tourism issues in Geneva.
