OUTLINE
THE CONTEXT: UN JOINT PROGRAM ON CLIMATE CHANGE
WHY MAINSTREAM GENDER & CLIMATE CHANGE?
WHAT IS THE BASIS? THE MTP II HANDBOOK PROCESS NEXT STEPS – COUNTY MAINSTREAMING!!
SUPPORT TO LOW CARBON CLIMATE RESILIENT DEVELOPMENT FOR POVERTY REDUCTION PROJECT
Project jointly designed with Government of Kenya, in recognition of the impacts of climate change (CC) on the country’s development;
Implemented by The Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (The National Treasury spearheads components of Climate Finance, while Ministry of Devolution and Planning spearheads MTP II Climate Change mainstreaming work)
Brings together 5 UN Agencies – Delivering as One - (ILO, UNEP, UNHABITAT, and UNESCO), to support Execution of Strategic Niche Areas:
1. Pro-poor climate change adaptation and mitigation in the national and county planning and budgeting process are mainstreamed.
2. Renewables and sustainable biomass production promoted.
3. Sustainability and employment creation in the building construction industry enhanced.
4. Low Carbon Transport catalyzed.
5. Illegal wildlife trade is addressed.
Funded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID)
