Gdańsk

Gdańsk is situated on the Bay of Gdańsk and in the southern coast of the Baltic Sea. Is is one of the most magical places in which I have ever been .Gdańsk is a thousand years old city with a population approximately half a million.It features fascinating examples of urban architect styles, which catches almost everyone's eye. There is a lot of monuments and historic buildings, that tourists from all over the world can admire. The most famous buildings are (the Town Hall, the Mill and the Old Town) Gdańsk has also developed a good infrastructure for the tourists. The city offers for us comfortable hotels, elegant restaurant and cosy cafes. In the city centre there are located a lot of shops, where tourists have a chance to buy souvenirs.

The most famous souvenirs from Gdańsk are products made from amber (especially unique, manually crafted jewellery). Gdańsk is well-known from international fairs, which attract guests from the whole of the world. Moreover the shipyard is a historic symbol of Gdańsk. It is a place where the fight with communism started. There is also a big harbour, which enables contacts with Scandinavian counties. The city and its sourandings are a good place for tourists because there are a lot of oportunies for relaxation. People might walk at the seaside and if the water is warm enough they can swim. At night young and older people can go out to night clubs and enjoy themselves until the morning light.With its characteristic architecture and its unique atmosphere, Gdańsk can undoubtedly be called attractive for tourists. There is evidence that more tourists from all the corners of the world are visiting Gdansk and who appreciate its beauty.

In 1904 in Gdańsk Street Wałowa urban gasworks was opened. It was the second gasworks located in the Gdansk. Gasworks which there was no possibility of expansion was located at ul. Toruńska. Gasworks Street Wałowa had a production capacity of 25 thousand. m3 per day. Thanks to intensive expansion of the gasworks in Gdansk in 1927 was built pipeline to Gdansk Oliwa allowing gas companies exempt the Oliwa.In March 1945, as a result of military operations gasworks Wałowa street was destroyed. Gasworks reconstruction lasted until April 1946 years when it was re-released to the municipal gas network.In 1976, as a result of bringing natural gas to Gdansk municipal gasworks progressively diminished their production until 1991 when the furnaces were excluded in gasworks and coal production was completed. Complete shutdown gasworks occurred in May 1995 as the only of the few still operating such facilities.

Gdańsk Yesterday 1980-1999Fire in the Gdansk Shipyard hall - fire, which took place November 24, 1994 during a concert in the Hall of the Gdansk Shipyard in Gdansk. As a result of injuries killed 7 people.

November 24, 1994 year in the Hall of the Performing Street. Jana z Kolna held a music event - a concert of Golden Life, and later was to be aired live transmission of the MTV awards. The concert came about 2000 people - mostly young people (13-20 years). In an hour the musicians left the stage Golden Life (approx. 20:50 pm) noticed the fire on the wooden grandstand in the back of the room. At first no one took phenomenon - it was thought that this is the light effect uświetniający concert. Privacy tried to smother the fire in the bud - but to no avail.

Very quickly, the fire began to spread, took up the curtain and the fire reached the ceiling. When the lights went out, there was panic. Everyone rushed to the only known them a way out of the hall - the main exit, which was not fully clear. It is in this hall took place the most dramatic scenes. People rolled their for one another and were brewing hot air. Among the fatal victims of the fire were two people: 13-year-old girl trampled by the fleeing crowd and TV operator Sky Orunia Wojciech Klawinowski, who returned to the burning hall to get out of the television equipment. As a result of severe injuries died in hospital the next 5 people, including two security guards who were previously wynosilii from the burning hall unconscious person. Were injured about 300 people, most seriously burned were taken to the Specialist Hospital Burn Treatment in Siemianowice Slaskie.

The cause of fire was arson, the perpetrators have still not been established. At the dock sat organizers of the event, which is accused of failing Way exits and bypassing basic principles of fire protection. Still no verdict.

In homage to the victims of the tragedy team Golden Life recorded a song called "11/24/94". Then the front of the building was called plaque with the inscription, a fragment of the song - "Life though is beautiful so fragile."

The square Street Świętego Ducha i Grobli I, opposite the baroque Royal Chapel was established in 2009 Fountain of the Four Quarters. Artist designed the fountain sculptor - Ewa Koprowska-Szulc and Lucyna Kujawa, in the form of a square divided into four parts symbolizing the four

quarters of the historic Gdansk: Kogi, high, wide and Fisheries. At the corner of each quarter is the lion, each in a different pose. The lion is the symbol of Gdansk and in fact is the coat of arms

of the city. Streams of water from 24 of the nozzle fountains are illuminated by laser in four colors - white, blue, red and orange.

The fountain located in a place where centuries ago stood well, which preserved the message in Der Stadt Danzig Historische Beschreibung written by R. Curicke published in Amsterdam in
