General instructions for compliant utilisation

● This User Information booklet (Method State-ment) is aimed at everyone who will be working with the Doka product or system it describes. It contains information on how to set up this sys-tem, and on correct, compliant utilisation thereof.

● Doka products are ONLY to be used in accord-ance with the Doka User Information booklets or other technical documentation provided by Doka.

● The functional/technical instructions, safety warnings and loading data must all be strictly observed and complied with. Failure to comply with this requirement may cause accidents, injury and damage.

● If any deviation from these instructions is con-templated, or any application which goes beyond those described here, revised static calculations must be produced for checking. The customer shall provide supplementary assembly instructions, and Doka's prior con-sent shall be required.

● The customer is to ensure that the User Infor-mation booklet (Method Statement) provided by Doka is available to all users and that they have been made aware of it and can easily access it.

● Always observe all industrial safety regulations and other safety rules applying to the applica-tion and utilisation of our products in the coun-try and/or region in which you are operating.

● Many of the illustrations in this booklet show the situation during formwork assembly and are therefore not always complete from the safety point of view.

● All materials must be inspected by the cus-tomer before use to ensure that they are in per-fect condition. Any components that are dam-aged, deformed, or weakened due to wear, cor-rosion or rot, must not be used.

● Only original Doka components may be used as spare parts.

● It could be dangerous to combine our form-work systems with those of other manufactur-ers. If you intend to combine different systems, please contact Doka for advice first.

● All persons working with the product described herein must be familiar with the contents of this manual and with all the safety instructions it contains.

● Persons who are incapable of reading and understanding this booklet, or who can do so only with difficulty, must be instructed and trained by the customer.

● The customer must ensure that this product is erected and dismantled, reset and generally used for its intended purpose under the direc-tion and supervision of suitably skilled persons with the authority to issue instructions.

Elementary safety warnings

Symbols usedThe following symbols are used in this booklet:

MiscellaneousWe reserve the right to make alterations in the inter-ests of technical progress.Unless otherwise stated, all dimensions are given in cm.

● Doka products and systems must be set up in such a way that all loads acting upon them are safely transferred!

● The stability of all components and units must be ensured during all phases of the construc-tion work!

● Provide safe workplaces for those using the formwork (e.g. for when it is being erected/dis-mantled, modified or repositioned etc). It must be possible to get to and from these workplaces via safe access routes!

● Do not exceed the permitted fresh-concrete pressures. Excessively high pouring rates lead to formwork overload, cause greater deflection and risk causing breakage.

● Do not strike the formwork until the concrete has reached sufficient strength and the person in charge has given the order for the formwork to be struck!

● When stripping the gang-form, never use the crane to break concrete cohesion. Use suitable tools such as timber wedges or a special pry-bar.

● When striking the formwork, do not endanger the stability of any part of the structure, or of any scaffolding, platforms or formwork that is still in place!

● Observe all regulations applying to the han-dling of formwork and scaffolding. In addition, the Doka slinging means must be used - this is a mandatory requirement.

● Remove any loose parts or fix them in place so that they cannot fall off!

● All components must be stored safely, follow-ing all the special Doka instructions given in the relevant sections of this User Information book-let!

● Further safety instructions may be found in each of the sections of this booklet!

● The faulty utilisations shown in the various sections of this booklet are only a selection of examples taken from our many years' experi-ence in the field.

Important note

Failure to observe this may lead to malfunction or damage.

Caution / warning

Failure to observe this may lead to serious injury and/or damage.

Here’s how the table head 30 works

The Table head 30 provides a firm link between the Doka H 20timber formwork beams and Doka Eurex floor props.

The floor prop is quickly and securely fixed onto the Table head 30with the aid of the double wedge.N.B.:Where the Doka floor prop Eurex 20 550 is used, the Table head30 can only be attached to the inner tube head plate.

Practical tips for

economical forming using

Dokaflex tables

To protect the surfaces of the form-facing, we recommend using onlyvibrators with protective rubbercaps.

The easiest and best way to cleanthe formwork sheets is with a high-pressure water cleaner.

Site:University Clinic, Magdeburg

Site:Westmünster Center, Bocholt, Germany

Important instructions:

● Dokaflex tables may only be stood ona firm, horizontal surface to ensure thatthey can stand unaided.

● Dokaflex tables must be stood stably, and able to withstand wind loads, inevery phase of the construction work.

The table must not be loaded - noteven temporarily with e.g. a stackof panels - until it has beencompletely erected according toplan (i.e. with all intermediateprops). No persons or objects are allowedto be on the table when it is beingshifted or otherwise moved.

Lifting Dokaflex tables

The Lifting hook DF is an easy-to-reposition cranehoisting attachment for:■ Lifting the table superstructure away from the

assembly area

■ Loading and unloading lorries

■ Stacking

■ Moving tables to next location of use

Also suitable for tableforms of the Staxo, Aluxo andd2 systems.

Always bolt the Lifting hook DF into the inner ofthe two holes drilled in the end of the beam.

Before starting to use, it is ESSENTIAL toread the instructions in the manual suppliedwith the equipment!

Please note:If the tables are to be placed adjacent to oneanother by crane, the form-ply at either end ofthe table must be shorter (necessitatingsubsequent insertion of fitting strips), otherwisethe tables are positioned only approximately bycrane and must then be fine-positioned using theshifting trolley DF.

The Lifting hook DF or Lifting strap DF make it quickand easy to stack pre-assembled table tops. The lowheight of each of these elements makes foreconomical transport and storage.

Stacks / how delivered

Observe the following safety instructionswhen transporting and storing pre-assembled tables:

■ Dokaflex table elements must be on-loaded and off-loaded, transported andstacked in such a way that it is not possiblefor them to fall off, tip over or slide apart.

■ The table elements may only be set downand stacked on flat, firm surfaces.

■ Spreading angle of hoisting gear: max. 60°

■ When setting down a table element, do notdetach it from the hoisting gear until it issafely placed down on the stack.

■ Never climb onto the stack of tableelements.

■ The table elements must be strapped whenbeing transported by lorry.

Preventing damage to the form ply:

■ Insert strips of formwork sheet between theTable heads and the form ply

and■ Use a Spring cotter 6 mm to fix the clamping

Horizontal shifting and plumbing ofDokaflex tables

It is ESSENTIAL to read the instructions in themanual supplied with the unit before startingit up!

The shifting trolley DF speeds up work on any site. The tables are lowered hydraulically, quickly andsafely, and then moved.

To streamline the shifting of Dokaflex tables stillfurther

Every Doka shifting trolley DF can be retrofitted withthe attachable drive unit DF.This is a battery-powered, clamp-on drive unit thatenables the tables to be moved effortlessly.

As well as the travel drive, the unit also incorporatesthe hydraulic system for the lifting device, and all thecontrols. The battery is designed to allow 1 whole day’soperation before being recharged overnight.

Advantages:

■ Saves labour - and thus cuts costs

■ One man, working on his own, can strike theformwork and horizontally relocate it, effortlessly- regardless of the distance that needs to betravelled.

beam

With or without stacking frames DF, theshifting trolley DF is pushed under thetable either from the short or long side, depending upon the dimensions of thetable and the situation encountered onthe site.

There are 2 possible ways in which theunit can be positioned - either with orwithout distribution beams:

With distribution beams:If the centres of the primary beams isgreater than the width of the carryingframe (130.0 cm), the entire weight ofthe table would only be transmitted tothe carrying frame via the secondarybeams. To prevent this, distributionbeams (H 20, L = 2.65 m) must be used.

Without distribution beams:If the centres of the primary beams ofa table is such that these beams reston the carrying frame when the tableis lifted, then no distribution beams areneeded.

Important for table-overhangs:

Central load application:

■ No special fastening needed for Dokaflextable

For wider tables:

■ Additional fastening is needed for Dokaflextable, e.g. with tightening straps or tensioningchains etc.

or■ Mounting a wider support surface to the

Function of the marking stripesThe table must be as near horizontal as possible when it is shifted.

Once the ideal position is determined on the fork for a certain table, it is easy to repeat this position onsubsequent tables of the same type with reference to the marking stripes on the fork.

The stripes are also a highly visible safety warning to site personnel when the fork is "in the air".

Tipos helpsto form even more efficiently

Tipos has been developed to assist in planning theuse of Doka formwork. For floor formwork, wallformwork and platforms, it puts the same toolsinto your hands that Doka technicians themselvesuse daily for formwork planning.

The easy-to-use interface makes for very fastworking. From when you input your layout anddefine your floor polygons (with the "Schal-Igel"®on-screen assistant), all the way through to whenyou manually put the finishing touches to theformwork solution the program gives you. All thissaves time - yours.

The program contains a large number of templatesfrom formwork practice, so you can be sure ofalways getting the optimum technical andeconomical solution to your formwork task. Thismakes for greater operational reliability, and cutscosts.

You can get to work right away with the piece-lists,plans, views, sections and perspective drawingsthat the program gives you. Operational reliabilityis also enhanced by the high degree of detail of theplans.

Easy to use, fast and accurate results

Always the right quantities of formwork and accessories

Formwork components and accessories that haveto be organised at short notice, or replaced byimprovisation, are the ones that cost the most. This is why Tipos offers complete piece-lists thatleave no room for improvisation. Planning withTipos eliminates costs before they have a chanceto even arise. And your depot can make the bestpossible use of its stocks.

You can import the automatically generated piece-lists intomany other programs for further processing.

Formwork drawings really can be this detailed! Both for thelayouts and views, and for spatial representations, Tipos setsan impressive new standard of visual presentation.

Why use temporaryshoring after striking?

The load occurring during concreting (i.e. the weight of theuncovered floor) will generally be approx. 50 % of the designload of the floor (i.e. dead weight + flooring + live load).

This means that the formwork can be struck once the concretehas reached 50% of its 28-day strength. The loading safety ofthe floor is then equal to that of the finished structure.

If the load is not removed from the formwork props atthis stage they will remain loaded with the dead weightof the floor. When the floor above is concreted, thiswill lead to twice the load being applied to the props. The props are not designed to cope with such anoverload, and the result may be damage to theformwork, the props and the structure.

Depending on the construction sequence, temporary shoringmay be needed to carry live loads on the new floor, andconcreting loads from the next floor to be poured.

Positioning auxiliaryprops correctly:

The function of auxiliary props is to spread loads betweenthe new floor and the floor beneath it. The number of auxiliaryprops that are needed will depend on the relationship betweenthe rigidities of these two floors.

The required numerical relationship between auxiliary propsand formwork props can be stated for the following two limitcases:

● only approx. 0.4 auxiliary props per formwork propwhere both floors have similar rigidities

● only approx. 0.8 auxiliary props per formwork propwhere the floor below has a considerably higher rigidity(foundation slab)

Ask an expert! As a rule, the question of temporary shoring shouldbe referred to the responsible experts, regardless ofthe information given above. If there is any doubt, particularly where dissimilar floor systems areinvolved, the decision must be referred to theresponsible structural designer.

Concrete technologyand striking formworkStrength developmentin new concrete

Deflection of thenew concrete

The elastic modulus of the concrete has already reached morethan 90 % of the 28-day value after only 3 days, regardless ofthe formulation of the concrete. The increase in the elasticdeformation taking place in the new concrete is thus onlynegligible. The creep deformation, which only ceases afterseveral years, is several times more than the elasticdeformation. However, early striking - e.g. after 3 days insteadof 28 - only leads to an increase of less than 5 % in the totaldeformation. The part of this deformation accounted for bycreep deformation, however, may be anything between 50 %and 100 % of the standard value, due to such variableinfluences as the strength of the aggregates, and theatmospheric humidity. This means that the total deformationof the floor is practically independent of the time at which theformwork was struck.

Curing of new concrete New site-placed concrete is exposed to influences which maycause cracking and slow down its strength development:● premature drying● over-rapid cooling in the first few days● excessively low temperatures or frost● mechanical damage to the surface of the concrete● etc.The simplest precaution is to leave the formwork on the con-crete surface for longer. This should be done in any case whereany of the familiar extra curing measures are carried out.

Cracks in new concreteThe bonding strength between the reinforcement and theconcrete develops more rapidly in the new concrete than doesits compressive strength. This means that early striking doesnot have any negative effect upon the size and distribution ofcracks on the tension side of reinforced concrete constructions.Other cracking phenomena caused by e.g. shrinkage, premature striking, impeded deformation etc. can becombatted effectively by appropriate curing methods.

Striking formworkfrom beneath wide-span floorsWhere thin, wide-spanned concrete floor slabs areconstructed (e.g. in multistorey car parks), thefollowing points must be observed:When the formwork is removed from beneath thesefloor-slab spans (i.e. when the load is taken off theprops), the props that are still in place are brieflysubjected to additional loads that can lead tooverloading and damage to the props.

When planning and designing floor formworks forthese very thin concrete floor slabs, it is thusessential to allow for the loads occurring duringformwork removal, as well as for the usual designloads. Please consult your friendly Doka technician.

Effective floor-slab spans of 7.50 m and over

Load redistribution Load redistribution

The basic rule is:The formwork should be removed starting fromthe middle of the floor slab (middle of span) andworking towards the edges. For wide spans, thisprocedure MUST be followed!
