The Garlands Annual Progressive Dinner - rsvp to *07Begins in Timbers LoungeA progressive dinner is a party where each course is eaten in a different member’s home. You progress from home to home – like a potluck but extended across three or four locations. After appetizers in Timbers Lounge, each pair of members meets up with two other pairs for salad/and or soup in one apartment; the main course in a second apartment, and desert in a third apartment. Lynn in Activities will do all the organizing and give every pair an itinerary! If you are not already a pair, your part is to choose a friend (or let us choose one for you) and, together, offer one course for six people (including you and your buddy) and set a table for six in your home. The only requirement is that the course you offer be ready to go at the start of the evening so you can enjoy the other courses and not be running home to prep. Your table may be casual (even paper plates) or fancy. You can cook or order take-out. The goal is to have a relaxed, fun, evening visiting with each other! Last year’s Progressive Dinner was a blast, and the enjoyment only increases as more members participate. You WILL end the Progressive Dinner with deepened friendships and great memo-ries. So jump in!The last date to sign up for this is Tuesday, August 6. When you sign up, please include the fol-lowing information: 1) partner name or whether you need a partner; 2) what course you’d like to offer; whether you’re offering the course in your home or your partner’s; and your email ad-dress. In addition to supporting our overall marketing campaign, thanks also to all the members who help us spread the good news about living at The Garlands by:

- Referring friends and family to The Garlands and inviting them to become neighbors

- Contributing testimonials and sharing their perspective on making the decision to move to The Garlands

- Blogging and sharing their photos and experiences on Facebook

- Hosting prospective residents on visits to The Garlands

- Serving as panelists for marketing special events.

As such, this year our members’ images, stories and experiences are the focal point of our “Be YOU, Totally YOU!” at The Garlands advertising, direct mail and online marketing efforts. As a bonus, updated member “vignettes,” including current and vintage photographs as well as written narratives, grace our walls throughout the building. You will also find the vignettes as blogs on our website (visit: https://www.thegarlands.com/whats-new/blog/) and featured monthly in the Gazette.

It’s All About You! We’ve said it a thousand times—our members are our best marketers!

We welcome your support and thank you for helping others choose The Garlands of Barrington!

Dawn L. Kempf, LNHAVice President, Sales Marketing and Health Care

Joyce Carlson comes from a long line of do-it-yourselfers. An assistant in a third-generation, family-owned paint contracting business, Joyce was a “working mother” long before the term was coined. When the business line rang in her family’s Chicago three-flat, she would whip into multi-tasking mode, corral the three kids and book the next job!

Garlands member Bonnie Smith Smiley’s friendliness, outgoing personality, and yes, smile, consistently exceed even the high-est of those expectations. Bonnie, professes a gratitude attitude about The Garlands, when she grins and says, “I’m just thankful to be here.” Her happiness philosophy is really pretty simple.
