PORTLAND THORNS FC VS. SEATTLE REIGN FCSUNDAY, MAY 29, 2016

CATEGORICAL WON-LOST-TIED HEAD COACH MARK PARSONSMark Parsons was named Portland Thorns FC head coach on Oct. 5, 2015, coming to Portland following two full seasons as the head coach for the NWSL’s Washing-ton Spirit.

The former head coach and general manager of the Washington Spirit of the NWSL, Parsons, 29, helped guide the Spirit to consecutive league playoff appearances during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, posting a record of 18-15-11 in his two full sea-sons as head coach for the club. Assuming the role of head coach in July 2013 and general manger in September 2013, Parsons helped engineer one of the most successful turnarounds in league history as the Spirit went on to a 10-win season and secured a berth in the league playoffs in 2014 after winning just three games the previous season.

Under Parsons’ guidance in 2015, the Spirit ranked among the top three teams in the league in goals scored (31), while forward Crystal Dunn was named league MVP. In addition, the Spirit Reserves won the W-League Championship, the U20s were national finalists and five Super Y Academy teams were also national finalists with Parsons at the helm as general manager.

As the head coach of the Spirit Reserves in 2013, Parsons led the team to a third-place finish at the Na-tional Championships, while also helping launch the club’s academy programs. In 2012, Parsons helped guide the D.C. United Women U20s to the National Championship match, earning a runner-up finish.

Before his arrival in the United States, Parsons was with Chelsea FC from 2004-10, working with both the girls and boys academies during his tenure, while also serving as the head coach for the Chelsea Ladies Reserves from 2008-10. During the 2008-09 campaign, the Reserves won the League Cup, the County Cup and the League Title for the first time in history. As an assistant coach with the U16 Girls Academy, Parsons helped lead the team to an academy championship in 2007.

The Cranleigh, Surrey, native holds UEFA A and B Licenses, a US Youth Soccer National Youth License and US Soccer B License.

Parsons resides in Beaverton with his wife Hannah and his daughter Edie (2).

Pratt was the 25th overall pick in the 2015 NWSL Draft out of Maryland by Sky Blue FC, but did not appear in a NWSL match. Pratt played from 2011-14 for the Terrapins, starting and playing in 17 games, while scoring three goals as a defender in 2014. After surrendering a pair of goals, midfielder Kim Little pulled a goal back late as she converted from the penalty spot in the 89th minute. Little currently leads the team with three goals and two assists through the first six games this season. Seattle will be without the services of goal-keeper Hope Solo, who is away with the U.S. Women’s National Team, as well as forwards Megan Rapionoe and Manon Melis because of injury. Midfielder Jessica Fishlock missed the last four matches, but looks to be available after playing 30 minutes in a friendly match against Arsenal Ladies on Thursday. Haley Kopmeyer will likely replace Solo in goal. Kopmeyer started 11 games for Seattle in 2015, registering four shutouts.
